Quebec Has Serious Problems

I may hit the tax increase thing some more shortly. Read somewhere someone suggesting we increase personal income taxes. Seriously. I just don't get people who think this way. We're already the highest taxed jurisdiction in North America. To go along with the highest union members per capita than anyone on the continent, we have the crappiest roads around with an illogical exit layout, and a drop out rate that rivals, I believe, some Southern states.  Demographics are certainly not in our favor when it comes to birth rates and couple this with our deficit (which ranks in the top end among Western nations) and an unsustainable welfare addiction - Poof! Snap, crackle, pop, I'm crazy-coo-coo for Cocoa Puffs.

Meanwhile, doctors who can't pass an excessively tough and secretive provincial French test are ditching this pad and heading elsewhere. Even when hospitals intervene begging the government to let qualified doctors work because of massive shortages the state turns them down.

Seems to me our priorities are confused.

As far as I can tell, certain types of people would ever say such a frightening silly notion of expropriating more of our income taxes (and I willingly generalize): Non-business owners, robots, ants, the clueless, socialists, welfare recipients, intellectuals and of course politicians who help themselves to our money.

As for user fees, they won't reach their desired result. Let's see, they ding you on your taxes for health care and then they'll hit you at the desk when you go see a doctor? The rationale is that it will deter abusers of the system. I doubt it will. Government initiatives do struggle to attain desired results.

Can anyone tell me exactly what this money will be used for? I haven't found one source or document explaining what the government plans to do with the cash.

Anyway. It's Easter. I don't want to get into this further.

Bah. One more thing. Yesterday I went out to by a Bar-BQ. In one section I saw Home Depot, Second Cup, Canadian Tire, Chapters/Indigo, Starbucks, and Winners. Wow. All these English words. Tsk, tsk, tsk. We can't have that, no?
