This reports dates back to 2006.
Of course, this is nothing new. Suspicions of this have been around since the Cold War. But given the advanced prominence of China now, it makes this all the more glaring. America and China are real competitors on the global stage. Watch them battle it out in Africa.
And now Obama is China's beyatch.
Speaking of Obama. I keep hearing how he's "fixed" America's reputation abroad. Really? Using the exact same policy as Doobya's? How exactly has he achieved this? The part about how the drums for war with Iran beat not too far off in the distance? The Middle-East mildly sees America in a better light but not much more. What about Russia? Comme-ci, comme-ca. Eastern Europe remains sore about the missile defense thingy. Even with Canada I haven't seen much more of a rapprochement. Obama has, well, protectionist tendencies. Which doesn't sit well with a trading country like Canada.
Of course, part of this has to do with Harper being conservative (sorta) and Obama being a left-wing liberal (sorta). Unless opposites attract, don't expect a return to Old Eire like under the Reagan-Mulroney years.
I love this "Obama is a "pragmatist" thing. It's "pragmatism" driving his China policy. As in, "we have to give into our principles because we owe them money" pragmatism.
Anyway.
Can someone point out otherwise?
