Did Quebec Lean On Change.Org?

A recent petition circulating on Change.org to ask the Quebec government to end their mandatory mask rule garnered nearly 60 000 votes in a matter of hours before being mysteriously removed by the site. It apparently was one of the - if not - the fastest growing petition on Change.org's history.

This made me happy and proud.

Why was it removed?

According to an article on CTV News:

"Given the heightened attention and reactions to the COVID-19 pandemic, Change.org has updated its approach to petitions that are reported for misinformation," Change.org senior campaigner Sarah Dixon said in an email to CTV News. "Petitions that spread discredited information, are likely to incite panic or which could cause harm are not allowed on the platform."

This is a fancy way of saying 'obey' and 'fuck you that's why'. A more chillingly anti-intellectual, vague, illiberal statement is hard to copy.

Who sits on their panel of Ministry of Truth and Science? Descartes and Newton?

Discredited? What is Change.org working off to make this claim?

What literature 'discredits' this or this or this or this? 

That's a lot of 'cred power' in those links and that doesn't include world class experts who have weighed in on the issue. Would they be banned by Ms. Dixon too on the grounds they 'spread discredited information'? 

Seems to me Change.org would have cancelled Galileo.

Would Change.org - those noted humanists - accept for example, the evidence children are safe from Covid-19 is clear? Paediatricians and children's hospitals across North America have called for a return to school and fear that if kids don't get back, the fall out and negative impacts could be devastating to their education and mental health. These are the professionals. 

If I start a petition asking for schools to reopen and it runs against the media narrative and whatever junk science of the day they select to 'discredit' this fact, will it get removed? 

Another example when was the increasingly unhinged and totalitarian dumbass Arruda said:

« les gens qui ne porteront pas le masque vont être responsables, sans le savoir, de la mortalité de quelqu'un »."

Not a shred of evidence backs this claim up from a public official.

I somehow doubt Ms. Senecal, the creator of the petition, hearing her in interviews, said anything as irresponsible as that. I heard her in interviews. I can vouch she didn't.

Nothing she said could remotely spread panic or harm. But who will? Yup. Arruda and Legault. Read Arruda's comment up top. That's gaslighting. How much more irresponsible can a public official get? Traumatizing people into a lockdown and now forcing masks onto them will bring so much harm both physically and mentally to Quebecers it has me worried. So who is causing harm here? 

Let's get real.

Here's the WHO on that claim:

• Based on what we currently know, transmission of COVID-19 is primarily occurring from people when they have symptoms, and can also occur just before they develop symptoms, when they are in close proximity to others for prolonged periods of time. While someone who never develops symptoms can also pass the virus to others, it is still not clear to what extent this occurs and more research is needed in this area.

And this is supported by several experts in the field from what I can discern.

In a world where things were less anti-intellectual and less hysterical, Change.org could reconsider this unfortunate act of censorship.

But like usual, they're just another cowardly bunch of wokesters hiding behind policy.

That being said, I find the fact it had grown so large so quickly it probably attracted the government and they in turn put in a call. 

Think that's far fetched?

This is a Premier that just turned Quebec into a police state, seems to have a conflict of interest with his connections to pharma (and if the media did its job right they'd look into it), and tried to ram through Bill 61 that would have given him dictatorial powers.

In fact, that sounds exactly like something he or Arruda would do. 

Legault is seen a good boy 'de chez nous'.

He's just another run of the mill corrupted politician. 

Change.org not only interfered in the democratic process, they sided with a government that is acting with an authoritarian hammer.

People, like usual, fail to see the point. Legault, without consulting Parliament, unilaterally turned us into a police state under the guise of 'public health'.
