Canada's foreign policy might (relative to a middle power) questioned.
Has Canada lost its way?

We may as well have laryngitis on the international stages.
Canada is not what we call a "world power." And Switzerland seems to have the monopoly on being a mediation star.
ReplyDeleteNever was a world power but once upon a time we had a place on the world map. So-called "punching above its weight."

I wish I had come back here sooner. I am not as familiar with Canadian history as some so I am curious as to when that period was you spoke of?
ReplyDeleteThe general "golden age" of Canadian diplomacy where our role in international affairs had some impact despite our small size was between 1945-1975 - as a rough estimate.
ReplyDeleteThen things started getting away from us; first among this was the scaling back of our once proud diplomatic corps. The book 'While Canada Slept' describes this very well.
