BMO Report: Montreal Economy Stinks - In Other News Sky Is Blue

Like the Kama Sutra, there are many ways (positions) to talk about how shitty the Montreal economy is. I don't know if there are more ways to dice it up. It stinks. The Bank of Montreal's report is just the latest study to lament Montreal's poor economic record and performance.

Especially when the boneheaded buffoons in the Parti Quebecois and are in power. This petty band of losers excels in mass producing divisiveness and masterminding Machiavellian social disorder that negatively impact the economy.

The BMO and The Boston Consulting Group have concluded Montreal is in need of a revitalization program and proposed ways to achieve this for the once bustling metropolis.

Good luck with that.

As long as you have a political entity addicted to luxurious social programs, high debt and the threat of separation, the city and the province will continue to languish. In addition, in order to begin the process of improving Montreal. a change in our bureaucratic and unionized mentality is necessary.

Won't happen. This will take an 'economic revolution.'

Montreal has all the tools and advantages to become a true world class city (not the one we think it is in our minds) but unless it gets special status, there will be no revival. Quebec City's interests are not ours. Montreal is a sitting duck in a political power game.

Here are their findings:

  • Strong and clear leadership at the metropolitan level, leadership that is supported by the higher levels of government;
  • Targeting centres of excellence in order to spearhead growth;
  • Private and public sector funding around a limited number of initiatives;
  • The upgrading of transportation and telecommunications infrastructures with an eye to sustainable development and improving citizens' quality of life;
  • The importance of human capital and institutions of higher learning, colleges and universities;
  • Branding actions with a single signature in all the cities of the metropolis and developing a marketing and promotion strategy under this single brand;
  • Perseverance, because turning around a slow decline is a long-term effort that transcends individuals and elections.
