Quebec Better Off Within Canada

By now, only delusional hard core separatist believe seceding from Canada would be beneficial to Quebec's cultural future. Most rational people understand Quebec's survivial, ironically, is best served within the Dominion of Canada.

Besides, as posted below (holy moly, just got a case of deja-vu!), Quebec's finances are simply not strong enough to go at it alone. It doesn't mean it's incapable of succeeding, it just points to the reality at this point in time. Whether we can ever make it a financially viable enterprise is another issue. My suspicion is not on the business model we have in place. For a society that aims to be collectivist and socialist in a market-economy, they may have to turn  to the Irish model and let the free enterprise system go unimpeded.

Will that ever happen? When donkey's text message I reckon.

In any event, if the "ice cube" analogy is accurate, it will confirm George Grant's assertion, "at least Quebec went down gun's blazing." Unlike Canada in his eyes which sold itself down the American river.

Anyway, Henry Aubin discusses this matter here.

  1. Theoretically most federalists agree Québec could go it alone but even Pauline Marois agrees that there could be a tough first five years. Practically we are a lot better off within Canada for many reasons not the least being the extended market that we get despite some interprovincial barriers.

  2. Theoretically...

So can Alberta and Ontario. So can various states in the U.S. So what?

Yeah well, I'm not willing to put up with a "few tough years." That could be a long time.
