Bad English

I was speaking to someone, who entered University as a "mature student," how low standards seem to permeate through the halls of academia.

She's enrolled in English Literature and was astonished to hear students ask questions like "what's an adjective." Writing is so poor the professor has to remind students emoticons are not substitutes for expressing emotions and text-speak is not appropriate or acceptable.

On top of all that, she's earning a 3.2 gpa and she doesn't feel it's all that hard to achieve.

Let's just say I saw the same thing 15 years earlier. You always had half the class begging the professor to hold their hand telling them what exactly to study for the exam.

It can only get worse as students now want their tuition paid by society.

As I've stated in the past, the majority of students in university don't belong there in the first place and I object to watching my taxes increase still more for this.

It's about as bad an idea as one can get.
