Daily Derp: These Are Derpy Times

Irvin Leroux is a Canadian hero:

"Irvin Leroux, a 70-year-old former businessman living in Prince George, BC, recently became a hero to the taxpayers of Canada — although few of them know it yet. But among the inner circle of tax practitioners — the lawyers and accountants who fight Canada Revenue Agency every day — his name is quietly circulating. They are blogging about him and referring to him in submissions they make to tax court."

"...I spoke recently to a Toronto tax lawyer, someone who has chosen to make his career litigating against the CRA. Many of his clients have suffered financial disaster like Leroux’s following an audit by the CRA. He chuckled woefully at the judge’s error. If he had been the judge, he said, he would immediately have understood how the large penalties and liens imposed upon Leroux had led to his financial difficulties. “I deal with the CRA daily . . . and I see it on a daily basis,” he said."

Now that's civil discourse and enlightened leadership we can believe in!

I just want to make an announcement. Because I have a solid sense of everything, if you make my Daily Derp list (I'm working on a Woodchipper Hall of Fame) you need to go back and look in the mirror and ask yourself a few poignant questions.

You may ask yourself, well how did I get here?

Commies don't understand business. Whaaa?

"Students have run the restaurant, named for Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara, for 34 years, but they've steered it into the ground. Boasting of "exorbitantly low" prices, the vegan co-op and concert venue that once hosted an up-and-coming Nirvana has cost the student body nearly $1 million over the years, and isn’t kept up to fire or safety codes. The ragtag band of volunteer staffers, who call themselves a "collective," faced eviction in March, but have persuaded the school to save their beloved stronghold."

"Hillary Clinton has made her steadfast feminism a cornerstone of her campaign, but apparently that sisterly love don’t extend to the other side of the aisle.
On the campaign trail Tuesday afternoon, Hillary Clinton laughed when a man said he wanted to “strangle” Carly Fiorina.

Clinton was in Derry, New Hampshire, to announce plans to “modernize” the Department of Veterans Affairs when a man who claimed to have been laid off by Fiorina while she was the CEO of Hewlett-Packard addressed her.
“She says she’s a great CEO,” he said. “Every time I see her on TV, I want to reach through and strangle her.”

Clinton burst into laughter. So did some members of the audience."

Only liberals get the benefit of doubts when they make such statements. Okay?

Hillary. Bah. I won't even bother.

Students aren't as smart as they think they are. At all.  This poor student was exposed for not thinking things through thoroughly on Cavuto (who I can't handle).

From comments:

"-She believes the '1% are hoarding the wealth'. Savings is now hoarding?
-In response to how much is enough she replies. 'enough until...' what is needed. Does she advocate for confiscation beyond this point? Sounds like she is even if she doesn't realize it.

Many of the most successful entrepreneurs in the West have no formal education - certainly not in things like 'Bi-transgendered, patriarchless Amazon-African societies'. No disrespect but you don't strike me as someone who will go out an 'innovate'. Mobilizing the free-shit mob isn't innovation.
-She's not working class. She's 'incredibly' working class. Her boyfriend is magnificently middle-class.
-And la piece de resistance: 100% taxation is 'on the way to socialism with a different structure' but 90% is not. Got it.
This is what the system is spitting out."

Intolerant forces on colleges are indeed bullying their way.

"First, former Dean Mary Spellman. We are sorry that your career had to end this way, as the email in contention was a clear case of good intentions being overlooked because of poor phrasing. However, we are disappointed in you as well. We are disappointed that you allowed a group of angry students to bully you into resignation. We are disappointed that you taught Claremont students that reacting with emotion and anger will force the administration to act. We are disappointed that when two students chose to go on a hunger strike until you resigned, you didn’t simply say, “so what?” If they want to starve themselves, that’s fine—you don’t owe them your job. We are disappointed that you and President Chodosh put up with students yelling and swearing at you for an hour. You could have made this a productive dialogue, but instead you humored the students and allowed them to get caught up in the furor."

Too many presidents of colleges and universities are gutless it seems.

The changing face of Sweden:

"...Now, this country is a night-watchman state -- each man is on his own. When the Minister of Justice, Morgan Johansson, encourages breaking the law, it means opening the gates to anarchy. Mr. and Mrs. Swede have every reason to be worried, with the influx of 190,000 unskilled and unemployed migrants expected this year -- equivalent to 2% of Sweden's current population. The number is as if 6.4 million penniless migrants who did not speak English arrived in U.S. in one year, or 1.3 million in Britain.

And the Swedes are preparing: demand for firearms licenses is increasing; more and more Swedes are joining shooting clubs and starting vigilante groups. After a slight dip in 2014, the number of new gun permits has gone up significantly again this year. According to police statistics, there are 1,901,325 licensed guns, owned by 567,733 people, in Sweden. Add to this an unknown number of illegal weapons."
"Even before the massive influx of migrants in the fall of 2015, Swedes felt a need to protect themselves -- and with good reason. Since the Parliament decided in 1975 that Sweden should be multicultural and not Swedish, crime has exploded. Violent crime has increased by more than 300%, and rapes have increased by an unbelievable 1,472%.

The politicians, however, ignore the people's fear completely. It is never discussed. Instead, the people who express concern about what kind of country Sweden has become are accused of xenophobia and racism. Most likely, that is the reason more and more people are taking matters into their own hands, and protecting themselves and their families to the best of their ability."

This is how government fosters chaos by directly challenging the people they represent.

It won't end well.

Disgusting behavior by VA police. Boy do we treat our Veterans poorly in North America. It's a national shame and embarrassment really.

"On April 9, 2014, Lewis called the VA pharmacy to refill his prescriptions. Someone hung up on him twice, the lawsuit claims.

It was the beginning of a battle that resulted in his arrest.

Mabel Dea, a clinical pharmacist, helped him on the phone and made his medications available for pickup the next day. She allowed Lewis to vent his frustrations about the poor service he received from the pharmacy, the lawsuit says.

In an interview, Lewis said he remarked, “This is a bunch of BS. I don’t know what the hell is wrong with you people,” and “I need medication and your operators have hung up on me repeatedly.”
He denied threatening to shoot anybody and described Dea as extremely helpful. Later, however, Dea reported him to VA police officials, saying he threatened to shoot his doctor and VA workers.
The next day, after Lewis returned from picking up his medication, Special Agent Chad Joy and Detective William Mossbrooks, each of whom work for the VA police force, arrived at Lewis’ Lomita home, asked to search for weapons, and questioned him about the call.

Mossbrooks, the lawsuit says, used “epithets, curses and other threatening and demeaning language” to try to intimidate Lewis. Mossbrooks referred to Lewis as a “baby killer” and mocked his military service and religion during three hours of questioning, the lawsuit says.

The men returned the next day, pushed Lewis to the floor and arrested him, booking him into the Twin Towers jail. Without his psychiatric medications for PTSD, Lewis suffered anxiety, nausea and other conditions, the lawsuit says. His sister posted bail.

The District Attorney’s Office charged him with making terrorist threats, but when the case went to Long Beach Superior Court, Judge Arthur Jean Jr. dismissed it after hearing testimony at a preliminary hearing, saying the evidence did not support the charges, the lawsuit said.

As Lewis walked away from court, Mossbrooks told him “This ain’t over. I’m going to (expletive) get you,” the lawsuit says.

The VA police officers obtained another arrest warrant for Lewis the next day and took him to jail on Aug. 28, just before Labor Day weekend, the lawsuit said. Lewis’ sister again posted bail, which was raised by $100,000, the lawsuit said."

This Moobrooks sounds like an uncivilized sociopath dickhead.

Well, this awkward. /scratches back of head.

Whatever will it do to the climate narrative.

"New studies flip climate-change notions upside down

"The sun will go into "hibernation" mode around 2030, and it has already started to get sleepy. At the Royal Astronomical Society's annual meeting in July, Professor Valentina Zharkova of Northumbria University in the UK confirmed it - the sun will begin its Maunder Minimum (Grand Solar Minimum) in 15 years. Other scientists had suggested years ago that this change was imminent, but Zharkova's model is said to have near-perfect accuracy."

The change that never was. There's nothing to 'flip' because the whole climate-change thing is way overblown thanks to politics and a heavy dose of selective data and heavy manipulation.

What a stupid phrase 'climate-change' is. No fucking shit climate 'changes'.

Obamacare imploding all by itself?

"...Mind you, UnitedHealth was a huge backer of the 2009 law. One of its top execs, Andrew Slavitt, then joined the administration to run the health exchanges.
What’s going on here? Basically, the long-feared “death spiral”: Not enough young, healthy folks are signing up for these plans, so insurers are losing money despite the hefty federal subsidies for the coverage. They’re raising premiums to even things out — but that drives even more folks away, so that only older, less-healthy customers remain, driving new losses . . ."

"Lock your doors or learn your lesson, that’s the message from New Haven police.

Officers in East Rock are starting a pilot program.
“Cars will be checked for visible valuables,” said New Haven City Spokesperson Laurence Grotheer.
If they see a valuable Grotheer says they’ll take it if you car doors are unlocked. They’ll leave a note and you can pick it up at the police station property room.
“I think it might work,” said Audrey who lives in the neighborhood.
“It seems odd,” said Kristen Zalota who lives in East Rock. “It’s an interesting way to combat crime I guess.”
It seems a little invasive, I’m uncomfortable with the idea,” said Corey Hassell.

Audrey is insane I think. She needs to exercise her brain more. I hope Corey is not married to her.

“What they’re doing here is in my judgement is not questionable a 4th amendment violation. They ought to get sued. I hope they do get sued,” said Williams.

He says this pilot program is against search warrant federal laws.

Williams saidm “In effect what they’re doing is stealing these people’s property. They have no right to enter their car at all because just because it’s not locked doesn’t mean it’s not your private property.”

Story of progressive intent, no? They'll never learn. I luckily came out of it soon after high school after some simple, straightforward observances. Not because I was smart but rather I was honest with what I was seeing. I felt it was all misguided experiments intent that led to failure because they worked against basic human laws. Again, progressives fail at obeying and taking responsibility for the unintended consequences they unleash as a result of their cemented actions.

That's why you see so many on the left write stupid polemics about how they admire people like Fidel and, in this case, one-child policy. Like cigarettes, we've been hearing about how bad red meat is for decades. I admit I'm not the biggest meat eater but I'm not a meathead when it comes to buying into this nonsense.

From comments at Reddit:

"2.5% is the lifetime diagnosis number, with median diagnosis age of 69 (which isn't too relevant to me right now). I was talking in terms of annual occurrence rate, so it's more of an annual return.
You can compound that over a mean lifetime (say, 25 years), but then also factor in the 90% survival rate of colorectal cancer. Let's assume based on your stats that having no family history doesn't help much, that's still an annual mortality of 35/100000 * 0.1, which is 0.0035%.

Compounding that for 25 years, you get 0.09% total death risk in a lifetime. 30% of that is negligible. And like my initial post, it certainly isn't compelling on a per year basis.
EDIT: forgot to mention about the 0.016% - 5-year risk is how I typically look at things, so that brings you to 0.014-0.018%. Regardless, I think it's important to look at the effect size closely when faced with correlations.

It's hilarious how much energy is still being poured into these tiny effects when we see things like nearly 10% of Americans being diabetic and another 30% pre-diabetic. Added sugar consumption is at ludicrous levels, multiple times above what the WHO recommends, yet we're still arguing over bacon.

Sure, you should probably limit processed meat, but it should be second in line to limiting added sugar. There are only so many dietary restrictions that are typically sustainable, so people need to prioritize based on effect size."
