In suspending Contstable 728 aka Stephanie Trudeau. Quite frankly, she's plain unfit to deal with the public.
As the reporter appropriately and bluntly asked: Is this the type of police officer we want on the force?
The answer is clearly no.
Good thing about youtube. Once upon a time cops could abuse their power. Now, with arrival of modern social media, there are guardians watching the guards...finally.
Police chief Marc Parent apologizes to Montrealers here. I'm satisfied with how this was handled.
What triggered her to put a man in a choke hold and put in a distress call causing 20 cop cars to show up?
A beer can.
In liberal, hedonistic Quebec a beer can in public is the least offensive act here.
Interesting post. Mêmes problèmes partout en tout cas. Noi abbiamo il G8 di Genova del luglio 2001: caso molto molto più grave of police violence. What I don't understand is the great number of police cars, for a beer can. Probably in Montreal crime is very little per occuparsi in così grandi forze di una cosa così piccola.
ReplyDeleteCiao brother.
I hadn't seen the second clip. Horrible behaviour. Yes, more security for the people with modern social media.
ReplyDeleteG8 or G20 riots come with the territory in all countries.
ReplyDeleteBut police brutality of this sort does happen. Not sure how often but it may take place in North America a little too much these days. Yes, crime is low here which makes her behavior retarded.
I have little reverence for cops who act "tough." The hero worship stops there for me.
I meant that we had G8 riots in Genova, Liguria, in July 2001. And that the Italian police behaved so brutally that it became a case criticized all over Europe. Generally though Italian police behaves all right. The fact that Italian people are not easily allowed to bear guns may help perhaps.
ReplyDeleteYes, I know. I remember Genoa.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, I find it rich that the government "forbids" anyone to bear anything.
They shouldn't know where the guns are.
