This Is Not Your Mama's Party

A local sportscaster chimed in with this political statement: There would be no room for Eisenhower in today's GOP.

It's a position I hear a lot. About the GOP being "extreme."

If Mitt Romney, the man who governed the most liberal state in the Union while introducing Romneycare, is considered "extreme" then I need to rethin what the word means.

Romney is a RINO as I pointed out in the a previous. Geez, if Sitffball is extreme, what do people think of Ron Paul and Gary Johnson? Are citizens so far up the statist ass they consider Johnson "extreme?"

Often pointed out, nonetheless, is the apparent grip of Evangelicals and the Tea Party in the GOP. I'm still overly convinced either has as tight a "grip" as claimed; especially the former. If you look at the legit crop of up and comers in the GOP they hardly strike me as extremists. Sure they hold conservative views and indeed there are some Tea Partiers getting elected but is it a trend?

Let me reverse the statement:

Would there be room for FDR, Truman or Kennedy in today's Democrat party?

I see a break from the Democrat party from its own traditions as well. Some argue the party is pulling right and that Obama is hardly a "leftist." The assertion, on the other side, is the Democrat party is beholden to the far left and Obama is the most liberal candidate in all of American politics.

Certainly, and let's not kid ourselves, Obama is crystal clear on where he stands with the state vis-a-vis its role in American life. If he had his way, American would transform itself into Canada Sr.

Whatever.

What frightening trend in the GOP can't be seen in the Democratic party as well?

  1. All of those complaining about how extremist the Republicans are also complain about how moderate Obama is. And think the media is right wing.
