Of Entanglements And Empire: What True Conservatives Think

What conservatives, true conservatives, think. When it comes to curbing and putting an end to the interventionists military state, libertarians, classical liberals, conservatives (not neocons), Marxists, liberals, socialists and even Pat Buchanan all agree. Where they begin to differ is with the welfare state - or the Welfare Bureaucratic Complex. Marxists, communists, socialists and liberals all advocate it. Thus leaving conservatives, libertarians and classical liberals on their own in ensuring the individual remains paramount and not subservient to the state.

This video goes a long way into reminding people that there are many faces of conservatism. The pop conservatism we see on TV or radio (Hannity, Limbaugh, Malkin, Coulter etc.) doesn't distinguish between military use of force to "export" ideas and how it erodes personal freedoms. It never bothers to fix this discrepancy.

Canada's position is a little different. Although we don't have a military industrial complex - not because we're necessarily wiser, but because we're essentially annexed under the protection of the United States -  we still deploy our military abroad. True, not to seek "monsters" or export Canadian "ideals" since we don't have a missionary zeal to our character, but we do have our own debates about Afghanistan. Historically, French-Canada was against our entering WWII using the same argument libertarians use or isolationists used back then; namely it wasn't our business. Interesting as this is, it's not the point of this post.

Once again, I found this on SE:
