War On Drugs On TV: Failure Unfolds Before Our Eyes

You know, I've watched cop shows like Dallas Swat (still waiting for Chicoutimi Swat) on and off for the past couple of years and if you accept what law enforcement does at face value you'd think we're nailing bad sons of bitches to the ground. Law & Order 1, Chaos 0.

But images deceive.

The thing I don't get is these guys are going around tearing down doors and walls, sometimes shooting things dead along the way (collateral damage in the name of the greater good), and for what? To bust a drug user? A dealer?

Has society - whatever makes up the portion that critical thinks - not realized the "war on drugs" is a complete and total utter failure where a new strategy is needed?

How does ramming through a house to arrest poor people getting stoned solve anything? Shoot, we're in fact ruining their lives for good!

I mean, ever see these people? The cops run in yelling pointing big guns at three guys wasted on a couch and a lady holding onto a child. They're down and out. Who knows how they got there and why they do what they do? I do know by putting them in jail you destroy any faint chance you have a redeeming them.

The irony of course is we're witnessing all this on television. Not sure if we realize we're watching failure in action.

It's a joke how barbaric and archaic we can be.

Yet, high fives and taps on the bum all round. We got them! That'll learn them! Fuck yeah!

Meanwhile, the real criminals are free and making a killing.
