Hash Hockey

Dunno what to make of Bret's latest drama queen post, but assuming he's not going to stone himself to death in despair...nothing says chill like the Trailer Park Boys, mafucka.

  1. They need me at SE like a bear needs a motorcycle helmet.

What was dramatic about it? I didn't complain about anything leading up to it. I didn't pull a Brett Favre and quit multiple times or dither over whether to quit. I did other things for a few days and it occurred to me it was like a relationship with someone you have little in common with or a job you hate. Sometimes you just part ways.

I didn't leave a particularly offensive "fuck you" in the end, and I didn't try to pull any "Who's comin' with me?" Jerry Macguire bullshit. I just have a fundamental problem with anarchy and it's clear that SE is a mouthpiece for anarchy. I'm not an anarchist, I don't belong there, and frankly I got sick of thinking about anarchy all the time.

Besides, I have other things I'm writing that may be far more rewarding (you can't really publish a blog, let alone a niche one that had me obsessing about a fringe ideology). Nothing against SE, I still respect Nikk for never censoring anyone.

  2. Pulling your leg.

And you're a mouthpiece for socialism, what's your point?

Can't we all just get along?

    *You had me at 'can't*

Correct me if I'm wrong, you didn't have to be obsessed about anarchy. I'm sure Nikk was aware of what he was getting into when he got you on board so why not talk about things?

    Eh, mufucka?

  3. A few months ago I got sick of writing about religion, so I basically stopped and just wrote about politics. That was fun, until I started posting on SE. I don't know if it was posting on SE, what I was posting about, or the fact that no matter what I posted, I got 4 people telling me how full of shit I was in a non-constructive manner.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind heckling, but there's only so many times I'm going to willingly post my ideas and have them completely ignored in favor of insults before I'm just going to say, "Okay, so what's your brilliant plan."

Turns out there was no plan, just a lot of complaining and spouting of platitudes. I could have joined the fray and done empty posts where I just linked to something and say, "This is stupid, no?" But what's the point in me saying this or that is dumb if everyone is just going to say, "Yeah, we should correct it by making a huge mess of things."

At least I can take away from it the assurance that anarchy is complete nonsense, so it's not a total loss. I thought maybe I had missed something, or that I just wasn't getting it, but no, it really is an empty ideology full of angry men who are pissed off they can't just do whatever they want... like a male sewing circle that sits around polishing guns and talking about how things would be better if we didn't have the damn government telling them they could sit around talking about whatever they want while cleaning their guns.

Ah, so you're one of those "skeptics" that isn't skeptical about anarchy, because you know it's nonsense. Good to know that you can have a religious faith in the state and still consider yourself skeptical.

frankly I got sick of thinking about anarchy all the time.

Even I don't think about anarchy all the time, and it's my blog! Hell, if posting at two blogs was too much for you, just admit it, don't go on with this nonsense about how those religious, unskeptical anarchists caused you to be "obsessed" about anarchy. Why were you obsessed about it, anyway? I'll tell you why; because you couldn't stand the thought that some people reject your unquestioning assumptions about the necessity of the state.

Go on your way, by all means, just don't whine about it.

  5. ... I'm skeptical of anarchy, and therefore I'm a religious statist...

    Alrighty then.

I'm sorry you think it's whining to reply to someone's post and comments. It's not too much to post to two blogs, it's just too much to post to a blog where I didn't feel welcome, and I think my hunch was right on that.

You can belittle me all you need to, Nikk. You didn't censor me and I respect that, though criticizing me won't make anarchy any less ridiculous.

  6. Also, I wanted to answer this without bogging down SE.

How can it be a theocracy when all they do is talk about individual liberty and you yourself said on my blog you don't get censored.

    How now brown cow?

I think you'll find many ideologies (especially those without any concrete plan of action) function in a sort of elliptical nature. Like a planet orbiting a star, it circles a central idea but never quite reaches it.

It’s like this: communists talk constantly about the plight of the worker and the nobility of labor, and yet communist take-overs tend to result not in the worker being emboldened, but rather in a non-laboring nobility dictating and abusing the "proletariat."

It’s not about what you talk about, it’s how you plan to do it. Anarchists have no plan for maintaining any of the freedoms and liberties they claim to value. I’ve tried probing for ideas, but I think anarchists are too busy complaining about the state (or pretending to be helpless against it) to actually do anything.

Again, Bret, a mere assertion (which you're good at). Anarchism and anarchist theory is about much more than criticizing the state, but you can't bother yourself with actually learning about it.

I think that one was a self-fulfilling prophecy.

  9. Sheesh, get a room you two. Can't you see you really love each other?

With all due respect Bret with one 'T,' you dish out and when you do expect some smack back. I think the guys over at SE engaged you and called you out.

See, I think you're equally set in your ways and really didn't care to really see the other side. I'm no anarchist, but I think there's plenty of information on anarchy - if I read it you surely can with your research skills.

I think you operated from a "prove it to me" (implicit that your position is the most logic one supported with empirical facts. I never bought that since one who operates from that position can easily refute) angle which sort of also made things sloppy.

There were interesting points made all round. It's just that I think you got frustrated with a "I can't believe they don't see it like me" thing. No?

I say this because I speak from experience. I'm that type of personality. I've learned to cope with it though.

I still think everyone's a moron though - with me as its King.

I think if you go back to my early blog posts, you would see how much I've changed over just 2 years, and I can personally go back to things I wrote as long ago as 4th grade and see how much I changed.

You're no anarchist because you've probably read the same sort of things I've read, which is to say there's nothing really convincing about it. I tried for months before even being a contributor to SE to figure out what the attraction is, and it turns out I did "get it" the whole time, I just also got other things (like the concept of externalities).

If anarchy is so great, why aren't you one? Is it perhaps because it's naive?

There were interesting points made all round. It's just that I think you got frustrated with a "I can't believe they don't see it like me" thing. No?

No, I just can't believe I got political answers to my questions. You know, like when you ask a politician a question and they say everything but an answer to the question you actually asked.

All I got when I asked questions was hostility and silence. That doesn't impress me, and it certainly doesn't encourage me to give a shit. When a group perceives asking questions as a stance of hostility, my bullshit detector starts beeping like crazy.

  11. I haven't changed all that much since the 4th grade. I'm guessing.

I don't answer to all comments either. I try to and I think I get to most of them but sometimes they just "run out" or else we'd go on and on and it only ends up going in circles.

Actually, I've posted in the past on bloggers who don't respond to comments. Part of me feels it's effen rude. Just respond, you're not a journalist. Another part of me shrugs and never returns.

But you can't get to them all and indeed, in some cases, it just doesn't merit it I suppose.
