Rent This

My mother introduced me to a new commerical tenant today. They're Muslims who own a butcher/grocery shop in the market. Nice folk who were looking for a bigger place. The interesting part was meeting the wife who is a chemist and a naturopath. While she looked at my mother straight in the face, she avoided eye contact with me. Even as I purposely danced in front of her making funny faces including the pig face - you know the one where you use your thumb to press your nose upwards to make it look like a pig's nose? Yeah, that one. Anyway, pig face while screaming "look at me!" - she kept eye contact at a bare minimum.

Ok, the last bit didn't happen but I imagine it.

Hopefully these tenants succeed better than the last. The previous tenant was Mexican and manufactured outstanding Mexican food products. However, he didn't seem ready to work on the things that make retail a success. He did little to sell/market his product and soon decided he wanted out of the lease. These are tough economic times and so we pragmatically offered a lower rent. He balked but luckily the butcher arrived in time.

Of course, it was unfortunate Mr. Mexico chose to opt out since the market has a huge demand for Mexican food given that demographics have shifted towards Hispanics. Plus the French-Canadian clientele loves Mexican food.

As an twist to the story, a former worker of his started his own business and moved next door to my evil uncle's building! He was misleading and telling people he was the same owner as our tenant.

He did everything our tenant should have done by astutely "selling" Mexican culture through music and properly setting a grocery/lunch concept. Dude was a rat (my tenant told me this is standard behaviour in Mexico which is why he moved to Canada to avoid not only corruption but to escape accepted cultural and social norms that lack any sense of right or wrong).

It's ok. Let the little twirps  play their games. We all know what fate awaited Mondego and Danglars.
