I would like to meet the person or persons who invented mythological gods. It was genius. The greatest strawman in history if you ask me. Not that you asked.
How can one come face to face with an abstraction? Myths, Mesianic figures are mostly abstractions made into words and allegories by the human mind over millions of years. Meeting their creators, the original ones, would require a very, very old man or a time machine. We are even as I writem creating the myths for the future with all our heroes, superheroes, etc.
Zeus is a collective creation, not an individual's creation. He sprang out of a primitive collective need for security and explanaing the ununderstandable. He is an adaptation by the Hellens the Romans called him Jupiter) of other beliefs in deities since the original humans in the deepest Africa and their ever dispersing descendants. Who knows he could be a representation of the extraterrestrial from whom we descend according to some and I'm not talking of the Raëlians here.
I'd really like to meet Jesus and get a few things cleared up about that whole savior business.

Yeah but Paul, "someone" had to invent Zeus, no?

That's why I was careful to say "persons" and should have added spanning over time.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I still say a group of dudes and dudettes got together and set the gods up as strawmen for man's actions of glory.
