The thing I like most about Uber - other than providing a service customers actually want and like - is that it reveals how utterly useless licensing and permits are. Yeah, sure. That they operate outside the bull shit racket of permits makes them 'dangerous'. Right.
Of course taxi driver unions have a problem with them. Taxis are part of an antiquated model. They're forced to comply with all sorts of bureaucratic crap and so argue to have other players to do the same under 'fairness.'
It's a perverse form of fairness but one in which there's a valid point.
The only true equilibrium on 'fairness' is in a competitive model. Get rid of the bureaucratic nonsense and compete freely in the market place.
The same for the communications industry in Canada. We're so tightly regulated we're a laggard on the international stage in terms of customer satisfaction and innovation.
