Renewable Rights

This is what happens when you abdicate your rights to a bureaucracy. They come after what you believe.

The values charter is out and as I suspected, it's not even worth wiping my ass with. I won't even bother linking because 70% of my readership is international and this is just plain too embarrassing to show the world. 

This whole song and dance cost taxpayers $2 million dollars!

I'm glad Ottawa finally stepped in and said something. Looks like Quebec will be the only jurisdiction out to curb and control freedom of expression and religion. If these universal rights are cherished, then it behooves Canada to take a stand and put an end to this.

This has little to do with multicultural policy (which I oppose) and everything to do with the PQ pandering to their most tribal impulses. To Some, like Justin Trudeau, it's a ruse to distract from Quebec's economic woes - 40 000 jobs lost last month. A gargantuan figure to say the least. As usual, nothing enlightening. Nor is it directed at the Muslims because the OLF continues to fine businesses as much as $25 000 for daring to use INTERNATIONAL words like 'ristorante.'

This is not about assimilating (ironic given the British chose not to assimilate French-Canada way back when) or respect or reasonable accommodation. Nah. This is a cultural 'red line.'

It has a segregationist feel to it.

From a civil liberties perspective this is not our most shining moment.

Alas, Quebec has a 1951 Alabama fetish. "Get off my lawn you no-good niggars ethnics!"

It's already begun - the slippery slope. In their gibberish pleas about "equality" the government has already shown it will be nothing of the sort.

Some institutions will be able to "opt-out" from whatever stupidity is in the Values charter thus ensuring what Quebec does better than any other place - create multi-tiered, categories and classes of people and institutions. So, say, an Anglo institution says no (because they're not insane) they will be given the 'honor' of doing so for five years at which point they will have to re-apply. Renew your universal rights!

Again. Either you have and protect rights AT ALL COST or you don't.
