Tommy Hilfiger = NSA

Nice try Bob Cesca with the strawman.

Here's the thing Jack. The Guardian or any corporation collecting data CAN'T RUIN PEOPLE'S LIVES. They do not have the power to prosecute with impunity like the government has. So in this way, yeah, I'm gonna be fearful of the state collecting data without consent.

The government can put your in jail - on a whim of need be. Brooks Brothers can't. See the difference?

Polo and Calvin Klein are not interested in my daily activities, they just want to send me their next sale event.

This thing that the 'profit motive' among progressives is automatically more evil than any state transgression is absurd and irrational.

A piece only Huffington is capable of posting. Alas...here's a comment:

"Since corporations seem to have undue influence on our government, with almost no moral compass and a prime directive of maximizing profits by any means possible, it should disturb you that they are spying on you, at least as much as you're disturbed by the government spying on you. Big corporations are every bit as dangerous."

/face palm.

especially given how corporations utterly lack the kind of government accountability

Of course they do. In the form of losing customers. That's the ultimate accountability equalizer. Can you opt-out of government abuses of a particular program?
