Again.
Entrepreneur and finance classes as early as we can to stop the stupid. Lesson one: Maintaining one's margins for long-term health.
It was a matter of time before small-business would be attacked.
Protesting restaurants just blows my mind.
Small-businesses across the continent are stretched thin.
Don't push them.
Or else will have to reap what we've sown.
In my opinion, we're already on a bad trajectory.
Don't know what it will take to quell this anti-business reactionary force.
Don't blame the restaurants - at least here in Quebec where the corrupt communist forces that rule the halls of power. In their finite wisdom, let's recall, they decided to TAX TIPS (sure, the government is not the mob, sure) while instituting a black box aimed at ensuring restaurants pay their taxes thus further ensuring the cash economy (once healthy) is all but eradicated.
To me, it was one of the most immoral acts set by the government when they went after people's tips. Yes, because they helped served the food. Effen expropriating despots.
THAT'S WHERE PEOPLE AND WORKERS WERE REAMED IN THE EAR.
A waiter was paid minimum wage because their tips would increase their hourly wage substantially. Once upon a time a waiter was a professional job. I knew one guy who earned $90 000 a year at a job he loved. He now probably earns half of that if he's lucky. And people are going to blame OWNERS?
Let me get this straight. The government steals people's tips and the owner is expected to subsidize the loss?
Idiots.
Yes, you're an idiot if you think like these people in the article.

My father-in-law (God rest his soul) used to tell me stories about his interactions with the unions in the grocery profession. A genius mind, he knew that eventually the parasitical nature of unions would decimate the store's margins. Along with other factors, it did contribute to the fall of the chain.
Their demands were unreasonable and their leader (an American by birth) thuggish.
At one meeting he told the leader, "one day, Artie you'll understand my position."
About five years later they bumped into one another. The first thing Artie did was say, "I understand."
Seems like Artie had gone to the other side: The evil ownership side. There, he learned.
My father-in-law, a genius and a man of honor who never held a grudge no matter how badly he was treated (Quebec politics fucked him over), tapped him on the shoulder, laughed and invited him for a coffee where Artie proceeded to ask two-hours worth of questions. Why not? My father-in-law was a grocery guru.
And these imbeciles want a minimum wage of $15 an hour for fast food workers! That would destroy jobs and put people out of work. The economic ignorance is incredible. When I asked the advocates of the $15 minimum wage (how all these people arrived at $15 is a mystery to me) online why not a $25 an hour minimum wage (which would really be a "living wage") I was accused of being a "troll" and not serious.
ReplyDeleteThat's what's frightening. That's why you need to educate EARLY. There's no hope for these people. They will just engage in sophistry and ad hominen.
ReplyDeleteAsking HOW they arrived at $15 an hour is a valid question. What measure of standard was used? How do they think businesses can meet that standard? Never mind people are different. $15 may not be enough for the irresponsible idiot who lives beyond their means - of which I think is the majority of this point. I know people who live on $13/hr just fine and plan to do what's necessary to move up.
It's an attitude. People who come to me expecting and demanding a wage they're not worth will not be hired.
End of story.
Nothing worse than a self-entitled employee earning more than they deserve.
