Best band in Canada in the last 20-25 years? Dunno. For me, The Tragically Hip are certainly in the mix. They're incredibly popular and influential here in Canada.
But commercial success in the U.S. has eluded them. Making it in the USA, while coveted and important, isn't the be all, end all. The Hip are raw and energetic. Strong live band too. I still like their second album and first breakthrough Up to here from 1989 I believe it was. They had a few other great albums, like Fully Completely and Road Apples.
Give them a listen.
New Orleans is sinking is a song from the same album and was, unfortunately, resurrected during Katrina. It goes well with the images.
