More History For 2010?

My aim for 2010, time permitting, is to increase the number of posts relating to history. However, writing about this discipline demands careful thought and time. We'll see.

That's my promise, to you, the reader. A big "we'll see."

No. More. Taxes!

  1. Those of us in California are experiencing a revenue shortage. So, I'm looking for more taxes. Lots more. Cheers!

  2. Yeah, I hear both California and New York are on the brink. Sounds like California (an economy bigger than all of Canada by the way) is in worse shape.

Higher taxes is the answer for clueless. How do you feel about it? Necessary evil?

  3. The company I work for is in Chapter 11, through no fault of its own. If I were sitting on its governing board, I would prefer a tax increase if it would bolster a market for goods and services. That's what gone.

  4. Is it starting to slowly sink in that to operate and provide services governments need money...and taxes are the only way they can get it?

  5. Except for foreign expeditionary wars, which no one in his right mind needs? Governments don't need money for that, do they. Bombs, planes, tanks, ships and planes, funerals and life time medical care for troops is "off-budget", right?

  6. On the other hand, is it not also sinking that perhaps we can't afford ALL the programs? Rather than attack the pocket why not cut some?

Taxes on their own are inefficient and relying on them to pay for something we can't afford through existing national incomes tells you maybe we're according ourselves luxuries no loner tenable.

  7. I think Paul would agree with you on that.

    Me too.

Foreign wars are expensive. The military can be cut a tad and still be cutting edge. Unless you guys think you need to subsidize the armies of the west by maintaining the power of the U.S. military.

Isn't the budget for veterans non-existent? I always thought services for soldiers returning from war was a weak point in North America.

  8. I do agree that we could do withiut wars altoghether. What Canada and the US are spending on Afghanistan could go a long way toward providing health, social and education services not only here but also in developping countries. That would be tax money well spent.
