Eugenics In Canada: A Dark, Nasty Fact

Feel free to read my latest post over at Who We Are about the eugenics movement titled Eugenics Equals Fauxgenics.

The part I love is how Nellie McClung supported the movement. She's ranked 25th on the CBC's greatest Canadians list.

That's why I've always hated ranking (of any kind) historical figures. It's way too nuanced and misguided. We tend to over-hype (or even over-rate) some of our ancestors.

    And not so far in our past, either. They were still doing involuntary sterilization of mentally challenged persons at the Michener Centre in Alberta right up to the 1970's. Shameful, disgusting.
