My wife and I (both in our 40s) watch All in the Family reruns from time to time and we always come away looking at each other saying the same thing "that was really good."
Man, that show aged well for some reason.
Simply a wonderful show.
Jean Stapleton - Edith Bunker - has passed away.
She was part of a significant program.
It is definitely a classic series and a milestone in television history as well. It does hold up well and I will watch it whenever I find it on. She will be remembered mostly as Edith Bunker.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, All in the Family came to the CBS schedule in the wake of the "rural massacre" of 1970-72, when still popular shows (but with what CBS considered the wrong demographics, i.e, older and more rural viewers as opposed to younger, urban and coastal cities viewers) like Mayberry RFD, Beverly Hillbillies, Hee Haw (went to syndication with great success after CBC cancelled it) Gomer Pyle, Green Acres and variety shows such as Jackie Gleason, Ed Sullivan and Red Skelton (The Red Skelton Show was number 7 in the ratings when CBS cancelled it)were cancelled even though for most of those shows the ratings were still strong. It was a new era in American TV that changed everything.
