Green Bay Packers: Sports Anomaly

I can't think of any "small market" place in North American sports that remains as relevant and successful as the Green Bay Packers. Not only that, they have more titles than anyone else.

Pro soccer in Europe, for its part, is pretty much dominated by the big clubs located in large cities.

  1. You might want to compare them to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

  2. Why did you pick the Steelers over the Bears I ask? Based on their records in the Super Bowl era?

Chicago Bears, Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys I suppose you can all compare. Maybe even the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions.

But none of those places have a pop. of 305 000 (my city a suburb of Montreal has 350 000), a team owned by stockholders, and more championships than anybody else.

Here in Canada, the CFL has three "community owned" teams: Edmonton Eskimos (Green Bay north), Winnipeg Blue Blombers, Sasktatchewan Roughriders.

  3. Just off the top of my head... and I play golf with a guy who is a true "fan" of the Steelers (his car is painted Steeler colors and has various Steeler comments painted on it, his golf bag is yellow and black, and much much more...)

Personally, I don't much care about records.
