Freedom of speech does not protect you from the consequences of saying stupid stuff
Um. Yes, it does Alec. That's the point of freedom of speech.
Alec is from the school of 'we can balance free speech' bull shit.
Define 'stupid stuff' and what is the cut off line for stupidity? I consider your comment stupid and equally heinous as what Sterling said.
Actually worse since it treading a very fine line of falling into censorship. The 'I don't like what you say, therefore, I have a right to silence you' isn't a proper response to dealing with speech. You're just as bad as the person you're looking to reprimand.
The reality is there isn't much you can do and this angers and frightens people whenever they hear offensive things. What Sterling said was in a private conversation, was recorded and released to the public. Do we really want a psycho, paranoid, politically correct society like we're seeing in the UK? This story screams 'those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.'
As one person put it, 'could you imagine the private conversations of anyone?'
This is an issue for the Clippers organization to resolve; its players, its fans and perhaps the NBA. Beyond that, it's a witch hunt. If Obama, Sharpton or Jackson or any other opportunistic hound chime in, it's already jumped the shark.
