Canada Wins Hockey Gold To Close Olympics At Sochi

In absolute dominant fashion I might add as they blanked, swarmed and hounded Sweden 3-0 to victory.

I have to admit, I thought they were hard pressed to repeat (the probabilities of repeating in any sport these days is tough) but not only did they win, it's quite possibly the most dominant Team Canada performance I've seen yet in international hockey. It was that strong.

Sweden were without key players in Zetterberg, Sedin and Backstrom which I'm sure would have changed the dyanmics of the game a little. However, Canada's defense was solid to the point of invincilbility.

With the women's team bagging their own gold (after an epic come back against their fierce American rivals), Canada has won the last four gold medals in two Olympics.

And to do it in Russian ice is all the more sweeter.

The win earned Canada its 10th gold medal and 25th medal at the Olympics. This puts them third behind Russia's 13 and Norway's 11 while finishing 4th overall behind those two countries and the USA.

One interesting fact is Canada were in a gold medal position 20 times second only to Russia's 24.

All in all a good Olympics for Canada. They didn't beat Vancouver's tally but they remained competitive which is key. For me anyway.

For the second straight Olympics Canada wins more gold than the United States.
