Rebranding The NDP

The NEW New Democratish Party: Socialism. This time it'll be different!

"That the party brass is taking another shot at changing the constitution comes as no surprise to any New Democrat. This is, at least, the third consecutive convention where we’ve seen similar attempts from the top. At the 2009 Halifax convention, there was suggestion that the “New” in the NDP’s name might be dropped so that we’d become the “Democratic Party.” Together with the presence of many Obama strategists at that convention, it suggested a rightward shift that would turn the NDP into a party of the centre like the American Democrats. The opposition to any such move was so great that it was not even proposed"

Say wha? Democrats? Centrists?

Man, even Obama supporters in the media have toned down somewhat the myth he's a pragmatic centrist.

It is interesting to note Obama strategists were at an NDP convention. And the President doesn't lean left. Sure. Right. Gotcha.

I know to those on the "real" left don't consider Obama to be socialist - Obamacare is seen as a gift to insurance companies and may shoot premiums up for most people - and to that they may have a point, but he ain't no centrist.

He's liberal. End of story. Nothing wrong with that. He was democratically elected.

As for the NDP.

Whatever.

Let them us code words like "Forward" and "Lean Forward" and "Progress." It's a signal to the rest of us to run away.
