"Whenever the voices of speakers start to crack and quiver followed by Amen crying at political rallies, I begin to get suspicious...and horny. Then it passes and I laugh while lollygagging and pointing at the T.V." The Commentator, Parade Magazine, 2009.
It's actually amusing. I'm not the only one who thinks so.
From The Onion:
"While it’s an honor to be here, I have to say the mood on the floor just doesn’t have that same exhilarating spark of runaway optimism and absolute detachment from reality that was so thrilling back in 2008," said Illinois delegate Erin Carol, referring to the last DNC, in which a record number of supporters came together as one under completely illusory ideals of hope and change. “I still support the president, of course, but admittedly I don’t quite feel as though I’m being caught up in this big, stirring wave of entirely imaginary progress the way I did four years ago.”
Touche.
My impression was that those folks would fit right in at a Doug Henning pool party. They say the left is rational, but there's nothing rational about crying and worshipping a politician like they do.

Watching the DNC convention last night (couldn't digest watching the PQ win) and I was struck by the appeal to emotion (like the PQ!) tone of the speeches. I recognize this is par for the course in politics, but it seemed more evident with the DNC.
I also found it bizarre how they obsess over "secondary" issues like abortion considering the state of the economy. The over arching main issue in Western culture is debt, spending, jobs and growth.
The Democrats didn't touch it. Like, well, the PQ!
Gosh, the Dems and PQ share a lot.
