Canada's innovation performance.
Not as bad as we think, but still lags the United States. Which is no shame. We shouldn't measure ourselves against the U.S. (or anyone in the G7 for that matter) - the country is waaayyyy to massive. It's more appropriate to compare where we stand with the nations of comparable size and stature - like Australia, Argentina, Holland etc.
Is the Blackberry the exception or the rule?

I just completed an exhaustive breakdown of where of human history's roster of significant figures mostly came from. It shouldn't surprise anyone that list is dominated by: Italy/Rome, Ancient Greece, France, Great Britain, Germany, the United States and to a lesser extent The Netherlands and Russia. Of this list, Italy, Britain, France and Germany have produced the most significant of historial figures.
Canada, despite some successes of repute, has not produced anyone that "shook the foundations" of human history. Given its youth, Canada nonetheless accounts itself well enough.
The United States dominate technology and business. I would add film to this list. I looked over a database of 9400 films. The Americans are responsible for about 65-70% of the list. A truly astounding figure.
