Daily Round Up

I'm waaaayyyyy behind. So let's do this.

England is shocked - Shocked I tell you! - to find they still have...racism in soccer!

"In total, Kick it Out's research estimates there have been 134,000 discriminatory posts this season, and 39,000 of these directed towards Premier League players.

English football has long prided itself on its anti-racism policies, contrasting them with what has often been seen as a less enlightened approach in other European countries where racist chanting against black players during matches -- something no longer commonplace in England -- still takes place."

If you call hyper-PC legislation 'enlighten' then England is more derpy than first thought.

Anyway. This, one would think, would make headlines on ESPN (since they absolutely love racial stories) but it didn't. Instead we got:

Oh, Obama, won't you cry for me, I come from Alabama with a banjo on my knee...

"Obama wants to go in the opposite direction: His 2014 budget called for increasing the estate tax rate to 45 percent and lowering the exemption to $3.5 million. Again, he pitches this as a story of the wealthy versus average taxpayers. But if you peek behind the curtain of populist rhetoric, you see plenty of big money, heavy lobbying, and hypocrisy on the side of the death-taxers.

Consistently, about two-thirds of Americans tell pollsters that they oppose the death tax. The Family Business Coalition has brought together dozens of groups this year to advocate repeal of the death tax, groups as widely diverse as the National Council of Farm Cooperatives, the National Black Chamber of Commerce, and the Association for Hose and Accessories Distribution."

Any person who calls for the arrest of people who hold a different opinion (in this case it happens to be the correct one), can fuck off and die.

You can throw all the stats you want at these brain-dead-bird brain (with apologies to birds) cultists and it won't make a difference. They believe in their 'science'. They invested too much of their intellectual currency (what little of it they possessed) and won't look to divest. The fact they want 'deniers' thrown in prison only points they're losing the plot and need to rely on the age old progressive tactic of demanding coercion whenever the masses don't go along with their faulty narratives rooted in false premises.

How can you possibly wrestle with these psychos in good faith?

Unfortunately, they've gotten away with shit like this and continue to. Won't surprise me one bit if some douche bag left-wing politician jumps on this depraved track.

They're just authoritarians at heart. They want you to toe their line.

I have little if no regard for progressive (particularly the modern version and not to be confused with old-liberalism) thought. Effen parasitical, intolerant, self-righteous, know-it-all-know-nothing, overly-sensitive, coercive malcontents and sowers of discord and mowers of reason.

Speaking of idiotic lefties. Garry Trudeau. I must confess, as a huge comic fan, I never got pulled in by Doonesbury. Like ever. I would read it and just be left with a huge 'meh'.

Now I know why. Trudeau really is a humorless, progressive with stale thoughts and ideas.

Trudeau isn't the exception. He's very much the rule. This is the face of the modern left. His recent comments about Charlie Hebdo (keep bashing and piling on murdered people you assholes) and how they 'crossed the line.' Whatever the fuck that means. Hey, Garry. If I draw a picture of you getting sodomized by ISIS terrorists while you blame the GOP is that 'going over the line'.

“Free speech... becomes its own kind of fanaticism,” Trudeau also reportedly said, adding that the job of satirists is to punch up, not punch down. Trudeau was presumably talking about Hebdo’s mocking of Islam, which of course led two terrorists to assassinate the editor in chief and several other cartoonists."

Of course, there was no shortage of diphitted morons describing this verbal diarrhea as being 'wise' and whatever else. You can read more about this coward's vacuous nonsense here.
And here.

If it pisses off the Gary Trudeau's of this world all I can do is raise a glass and salute the gods.

Supreme Court Does The Right Thing

Striking down the Conservative's mandatory minimum sentencing monstrosity that is.

"...The Conservative government reaffirmed its tough-on-crime commitment Tuesday, trying to appear undeterred by yet another Supreme Court of Canada decision striking down as unconstitutional a showcase statute in its signature anti-crime agenda.
The government’s mandatory-minimum sentencing regime for illegal possession of a firearm, introduced in 2008 as part of the Tackling Violent Crime Act, violates Section 12 of the Charter of Rights because it has the potential to be cruel and unusual punishment, the court ruled in a 6-3 decision."

Know what's ridiculous? I'll tell you how irrationally psychotic the Tories are on this one.

My father owns a shot-gun he bought way before all this gun-control crap took a cultist hold on a frightened citizenry. Now. His son - HELLO! That being me - innocently takes his shot-gun because, you know, it's a 12 gauge St. Etienne double-barrel perfect for small game hunting and clay shooting and FREEDOM, can be thrown in prison for three years for merely transporting it from his house to mine prior to having my gun license. Imagine that. The government of Canada is willing to destroy a family for that.

The U.S.A does the same thing for small pot possession.

Now. To all you people who feel gun-control is a must; that the conservatives need to get 'tough on crime' DOES THIS STRIKE YOU AS A 'CANADIAN VALUE'?

For if it does, you're not my friend.

We're All Gonna Wear Gas Masks If We Don't Do Something

Ontario and Quebec, Canada's post-derp societies, have joined California as the only jurisdictions to join a cap and trade scheme.

A scheme really designed for those who will make a buck off it (your Al Gore's of this world - remember, the scarier the better) and to extort more money from taxpayers. All under the wonderful guise of protecting the environment for Gaia.

A scheme that will have a negligible impact on carbon emissions (ironic the more we use the better we live; the greener the planet but why let facts get in the way of a good spooky narrative, right?).

All based on an irrational fear of fossil fuels - and nuclear energy. Germany, Spain and England learned ignoring reality isn't such a fine idea. Yet, here we are in Quebec and Ontario undertaking this ridiculous path.

We have what we need but instead lets threaten growth and potentially harm citizens with an idea that, at its root, has been a false premised all along. We should be proud - yes proud - as a species what we've accomplished thus far. We've never been wealthier and healthier in the history of mankind, no matter how you parse the stats. Yet, the left has this bizarre end of world fetish.

They're like religious creationists only their, well, climate creationists.

But hey, we have to do something. Including calling for the arrest of 'deniers' like me.

I'd rather be on this side than the this one.

As much as I loathe Harper's social policies on crime, I think he's bang on with climate change.

What can I say? Arrest me you psychos.

As for Quebec, things are not good here.

The Gist Of It

I've arrived at a conclusion about things and such.

After years and years of reading books upon periodicals upon essays upon blog posts upon newspaper clippings upon commercial ads upon stories behind cereal boxes upon highway signs upon manifestos, edicts and pamphlets upon post-its upon parables upon fables upon myths upon index cards for school projects upon magazines upon poems upon haiku upon cave pictures upon comics, it's my contention we really do know jack shit.

My blog proves this point.

Fine. There are some things we know as we see in science and technology but for the most part, the things we stress and argue about - like global warming, racism, economics, and so on - are almost impossible to ever substantiate. We're so busy trying to find points of origins to check mate our opponents we end up vulnerable to all sorts of nonsense. We operate in individualized cubicles presenting horribly constructed ideas and theories and pass them off as 'facts'. And because they are 'open-ended' exercises of vapidity we've allowed ourselves to permit feelings into the equation. We 'just know' ergo TRUTH!

The battle ground of this so-called 'culture war' is really about seeing who owns 'history' and those who do, perhaps, own the narrative.

Even then, you don't even need history to just invent a narrative. For that, you just need a set of ideas rooted in a false premise and away you go. You can even make shit up or interpret data as you wish.

That's how it is with human nature. Since humans are pretty much impossible to peg - as economics dismally prove time and time again - how can we really be sure history is accurate?

Fine. It's accurish.

Plenty of great minds have explored human nature and have left us with interesting notes leaving us to understand and digest all of it in its totality.

Vico, for his part, valiantly attempt to apply a scientific approach to history. But what he accomplished was not anything definitive in as much as he laid a reasoned framework for understanding human history.

Sort of a 'get the gist' of it master work the way I see it. Trying to gather information about humans is a little like attempting to herd fish into one part of the bowl.

And that's what it all comes down to. Understanding history enough so as to avoid falling into the traps of contemporary demagogues, charlatans and shysters. Navigating through life, in addition to the usual basic fact of raising a family, working etc., is to spot bull shit.

You know the list of names. Hitler, Auguste Comte, Paul Erlich, Cola di Rienzo and whomever you wish to add.

Etc.

As those people have shown, it's very easy to fool us. The more polished, the more phrases they use to 'pigeon hole' humans, the more charismatic in rhetoric the more they sound enticing. After all, no one who sounds that smart can't be bad, right? I mean, they're the experts and they have our interests at heart, right? I mean, like, we're ignorant and they're not so let me glaze my eyes over.

Next thing we know - poof - we erroneously believe in all sorts of things.

Because we're not getting the gist of it.

Concord High School recently released a statement condemning golf coach Jessica Dooley.

Quote on the whole 'bake me a cake or else' mentality:

"People have a right to personal conviction for fuck's sake. And I state this is as verified libertine heathen breathing the ass fumes of God and Satan both. Yes, I've rimmed both God and Satan.

Point is, a strong open society should tolerate a wide spectrum of views no matter what the fuck- it just cannot tolerate these views becoming iron fists forcing the yoke of submission upon others.

It's simple. People who keep laws smart and scarce are worthy of a vote of confidence no matter what their personal moral stances are."

But the yoke of submission is a must for the self-righteous.

Those crazy Czechs:

"For many women in the Czech Republic, the Easter season, known as Velikonoce, is not their favorite time. Easter Monday is the national holiday, and traditionally it is a time when women get whipped with a braided rod of willow called a pomlázka. The name comes from pomladit, meaning “to make younger” and how it got tied up with Easter isn’t very clear.

Traditionally, boys in villages go around from door to door on Easter Monday to slap women, even strangers, on the legs, thighs or buttocks with the whip until some blood is drawn. The victim is supposed to give the boy an egg or some chocolate. For older boys alcohol in the form of slivovice, or plum brandy, is sometimes the reward.  In some areas, each victim ties a ribbon on the whip, sort of like notches on a gun barrel."

Politico takes a ballsy, soberly stance on journalism that focuses on the narrative and their lies:

"May Satan capture your soul and make it his plaything if you think you and your publication are incapable of such journalistic malpractice. Editors and producers at the highest ranks of journalism have fallen again and again during the past few decades, committing crimes against journalism that match or surpass those of Rolling Stone and Erdely. Here’s just a partial list: Janet Cooke at the Washington Post; The Hitler Diaries (various publications); Stephen Glass at the New Republic, George, and, um, Rolling Stone; Jayson Blair at the New York Times; Jack Kelley at USA Today; NBC’s “exploding pickup truck”; CNN’s Tailwind story; CBS’ “Rathergate” coverage; Mike Daisey’s Apple story on This American Life; Jonah Lehrer (fabrication in his book); and CBS again (Lara Logan on Benghazi (where the government blamed the attack on a youtube video and later cynically put an innocent man in prison to serve its own ends and in which later Hillary - a person of impeccable leadership decorum - tried to dismiss with 'what difference does it make at this point?' when grilled for answers.). And as long as we’re building out a listicle, let me mention that when I worked at Slate, I edited and published a sham story by a liar..."

Note: Bold mine.

A partial list indeed. And notice none are from Fox News. Just saying.

Don't forget what the legacy media did to Richard Jewel at the Atlanta games, or how NBC rigged the video during the Zimmerman circus; the scandalous shame (of which the evil motherfucker Al Sharpton had a hand in) of the Duke Lacrosse lies, Brian 'I was there' Williams, Kristol at NYT accusing an innocent man of being the anthrax mailer.

And this is just off the top of my head.

"I call [it] 'gyro-gen,' and it generates electricity from the power of rolling ocean surface waves," said the 17-year-old high school student from Encinitas, Calif.

"...I hope in the future to see not just solar, not just wind, not just ocean or nuclear power but as many ideas as possible, some things that we may not even realize now would be a possible source of energy," he said. "I think that anything new is valuable."

On a serious note, THIS is the sort of guy humanity needs. Optimistic.

All those of the old army when we met seem not to have changed at all, and many references were made to old and happier times."

Moving.

I wonder how long before progressives look to scrub Southern history altogether.

***

Speaking of scrubbing, Quebec is very good at scrubbing history. A parent I know was upset the way they explain how immigrants were treated during the years Quebec introduced possibly the most restrictive law in North America with Bill 101. A law only a nationalist hillbilly could love.

Specifically, Quebec has taken to the notion that immigrants like 'les Italiens' chose to not go to French school and that Quebec were innocent players in the dramatic story surrounding its paternalist education laws.

Let's get one thing straight buckos. It was Quebec who were prejudiced against Italians and actively sought to keep them out of Catholic French schools. Left with no options but endowed with an innovative and fighting spirit, the Italians (around the 1920s if memory serves correct. I'm a little rusty with dates) simply created their own schools (because the English were no more inviting) en anglais.

By the 1960s, when the Quebecois were waking from whatever slumber (La Revolution Tranquille) they were mired in, they realized the Italians had surpassed them in upward social mobility by most measures.

So. They did what any reactionary, threatened group does. They enact anti-liberty laws. Worse, they tried to take the Italians out of the English system and throw them back into the French where the Italian gave them the big middle finger. THIS is the origin of the St. Leonard riots.

They made their own beds and now they try to absolve their mistakes by rewriting history.

And don't think they're not repeating their ways.

Not sure why everyone is surprised no one got fired over this Rolling Stone article. No one got fired for the IRAQ WAR.

Sorry Montreal. Packing A Couple Of Exhibition Games Is Not Proof The City 'Deserves' Its Baseball Team Back

I like baseball. Always have. It actually is disappointing I didn't play organized ball until I joined a couple of garage leagues years later. It's a great game.

I generally played center-field because as a left-hander the infield posed a little problem. Other than first-base, I couldn't play short or second which I preferred.

In any event, center-field was a personal Mecca. I played it fairly well given I possessed decent foot speed and dexterity as well as solid catching skills. When you play center you have to constantly be surveying what's going on in the infield. You need to project ahead different scenarios that may come your way. Where do you throw the ball with two runners on at first and second and one out? Do you throw home; to the cut off man? Which player is at the plate? Do they hit pull the ball thus reminding your partners in outfield to keep an eye out? If the runner on first is a base stealer you need to be ready to go back up your second-baseman lest the catcher's throw eludes him. And if you have a rifle for an arm, you may even try to throw a runner out at first Vladimir Guerrero style.

The outfield also offers a chance at momentary personal thoughts between plays. As the trees swing gently singing in the background with the wind on a summer evening, it is here you get to think through... life in peace. Alone in the outfield.

But what peaceful moments of solitude baseball offers, it also demands intense challenges if facing a pitcher as a hitter. Once you enter the batter's box, it's like entering the ring or a Gladiator preparing for battle. Different sets of thinking skills take over as well as the sheer scariness of facing a 60 or 70 mph pitch - let alone the 85-100 we see in the pros.

It's kill or be killed.

And then, in an instance, it's over and the cycle starts again.

Baseball's cadence is part of what makes it a great game.

How's that for intro on this post about the prospect of baseball returning to Montreal?

The point is I enjoy the game as do many Montrealers. I'm no different and there are certainly bigger fans than me.

However, this notion of that because we somehow fill the stadium for a couple of exhibition games means baseball can come back to Montreal seems hollow and superficial to me.

Never mind a fair question is where were these fans when the Expos needed them most? Right. Making excuses for not going from blaming Brochu and Selig, to citing the location of the Big O all the way to their dog ate their homework. If it were today, global warming would be blamed.

Having a MLB is a major - excuse the pun - 81 game commitment and I just don't see the Montreal sports fan getting behind it. There are not enough baseball fans.

I could be wrong but I just look at the Alouettes and Impact on a much smaller scale and wonder how in the world we can get MLB.

However, the biggest impediment to getting a pro team back is getting a new stadium. When asked about the prospect of baseball returning to Montreal, the Commissioner said we need a new park.

That's a huge hurdle to climb. The last we tried it failed. I did my part in buying a $250 brick but unfortunately it fell through and soon after Nos Amours skipped town and left for Washington.

I wish Warren Cromartie luck and I'll again do what I can - within financial reason - to help out because nothing beats watching baseball with a beer on a warm, lazy summer afternoon.

Bombardier Sticks Hand Out; Government Licks It

Speaking of hands being out, the union representing GM is back at it using all the usual drivel in order to get another bail out taxpayers already sent them but a few years ago.

Among the claims made is that they help generate $5 billion to the 'surrounding economy. While it's true there's a splinter effect to the economy (not totally unlike in sports where a pro team or the F1 race helps spurns the economy), the problem is if it costs $13 billion (as it did the last time) to 'invest' (bureaucratic code for squander) thus leaving an $8 shortfall does that sound like an investment?

How to make that up?

You can't because...well, you know the story.

What about giving the money to companies that consumers buy from like Honda and Toyota? Nah. They threaten the competition.

If you follow the neo-Luddites and their faux-enviromental agenda, you (citizens and politicians alike) will have played a hand in destroying our economy; our future.

Fear-mongering?

No. Not even close.

They're the ones over-playing the irrational fear of fossil fuels with mountains and pounds of discredited and misleading information which in the end will result in us using less of it while he carbon tax ourselves out of modernity.

Theirs is a political game. Nothing more, nothing less.

It's 'system change' they seek.

Get it through your thick skulls.

The Extremism Of The Perpetually Offended And Angry

A couple of posts on how everyone seems to be upset or offended about anything, everything and nothing. It's all 'she's a witch burn her' all the time with this bunch of lynch mobs.

What can you do? It's a time where feelings and emotions counts more for evidence and reason.

First up, Reason magazine.

Second, CTV Montreal's Barry Wilson nails it in his 'Outrage is the new normal' postscript.

Be careful Barry. You're just another privileged white guy.

And Lenny Bruce.

Words only matter when you make them matter.

Nigger, chink, wop, mick, spic, hymie - whatever.

Just bloody effen words.

And when you move to censor words you've lost the plot.

Fall Of The West Reason 4945966

Usually, the British lead the European faction of degrading European civilization but now it's France's turn.

"The French parliament has passed a measure that bans modeling agencies and fashion brands from employing models the government deems too thin. Now models will be required to present medical documentation of a body mass index (BMI) of at least 18, Reuters reports. (In 2009, the average French woman’s BMI was 23.2.) People who employ models who fail to meet the requirement could face six months in prison and a fine of €75,000 ($82,417).

The amendment, which passed today, is part of a larger effort to combat eating disorders in France. Health minister Marisol Touraine has said the law aims to protect not only the health of models themselves, but also that of young women who try to emulate them. Parliament passed an amendment earlier this week targeting websites that encourage “excessive thinness” and unhealthy eating restrictions."

What you gonna do? Stupid paternalists will, you know, be stupid.

Other than that.

BMI. The fact they use it only goes to show this idea will A) not work and B) lead to unintended consequences.

One may be large parts of the French fashion industry will move to Milan or some other spot in Italy. Or London.

Quote Of The Day: Arrogance Of Man

"If the worst-case scenario about climate change , all the worst predictions, if they never materialize, what will be the harm that is done from having made the decision to respond to it? We would actually leave our air cleaner. We would leave our water cleaner. We would actually make our food supply secure. Our populations would be healthier because of fewer particulates of pollution in the air - less cost to health care. Those are the things that would happen if we happen to be wrong and we responded." John Kerry.

This is not rational.

This is arrogance.

The harm would be devastating since the response (and it really isn't much of a response) they propose over hauling our economy and setting it back decades for it. You reduce our use of fossil fuels and it's all but guaranteed the opposite of what he's babbling on about will happen because the alternatives (wind and solar) are unreliable and can't produce enough energy for the world's population.

Go take a closer look at what happened in Germany and Spain. It's a disaster - and lives were lost. Imagine taking this failed model onto a greater scale? I'll let you imagine that.

Of course, nuclear energy is about as clean and sound as one can get but the lefties irrationally live in fear of it.

Other than that, it's bull shit.

Honestly. Re-read what he's spewing (including his boss Obama) in that emotionally driven drivel infested collection of gibberish.

Not only is he begging for action he unwittingly admitted they don't know for certain (so much for settled science) about, well, anything.

You want to take a chance on what amounts to a distorted take on the precautionary principle?

(Intermittent) Daily Round Up

Comment on Memories Pizza:

"The hypocrisy here is off-the-charts. Would a restaurant owned by a Progressive family agree to cater an event held by the Westboro Baptist Church? Would a black-owned business cater or support a Klan event? What if a Mormon polygamist wanted his 6th marriage (to a 12-year-old) catered? The selective outrage is nauseating..."

We never learn. From the fabricated UVA rape story in Rolling Stone to Duke Lacrosse,  to shrill anti-GMO and fears of nuclear energy and fossil fuels, progressivism is on the attack - and it's very, very problematic as it is disturbing.

Fascistic, anti-science and downright mean-spirited.

Speaking of fascists. Here's one from Daily Kos:

"A BETTER solution would involve a California entity to sue GoFundMe for the entire amount this biased pizza place got so far, as well as damages to ensure the pizza place owner never has another profitable moment in her life. She deserves lifetime scorn and derision for her racist, sexist position.

Ban Fracking. Ban the GOP. Ban capitalism. Ban state governments, revert every lawmaking ability to the progressive federal government for maximum efficiency and fairness.

I'm beginning to run out of words to describe these people.

They really are incoherent, irrational and hysterical.

People FREELY helped raised $260 000 and this person wants to sue them?

Like I said, there are no words except to accept them for what they are at face value:

Angry, tyrannical, JACOBINS.

Putzes who can't even put their money where their derpy mouths are.

Sad, eh?

All for political nonsense. Something about climate system change. I can't hear with all the screaming. Ask the idiot up thread at Daily Kos. Irrationalism is its own language. I don't speak it.

Amusing to hear they'd put 'deniers' in prison.

It's pretty much how the Witch hunts functioned.

In the self-entitlement corner comes Conservative Senator (and feminist) Nancy Ruth.

She doesn't like being questioned by the Auditor-General - the only person that speaks for taxpayers.

"A Conservative senator is miffed that she's being asked to justify claiming a meal expense while travelling when she could have eaten a free airline breakfast of "ice-cold Camembert with broken crackers."

That's the level of detail Nancy Ruth says she's been subjected to by auditor general Michael Ferguson, who is conducting a comprehensive audit of senators' expenses.

Auditors have asked some senators to clarify their expenses, asking them to account for everything from single phone calls to sandwiches eaten during committee meetings to postage stamps. And they've been cross-referencing daily expense claims with cellphone records and senators' emails.
Ruth said Wednesday that she's been asked why she didn't eat free airline food rather than file breakfast expense claims on a couple of occasions.

"Well, those (airline) breakfasts are pretty awful," she said.

"If you want ice-cold Camembert with broken crackers, have it."

Wow.

Keep digging at her.

Heard Anne Lagace Dowson the other day suggest a UQAM 'compromise' with students who blocked other students from going to class forcing the school to shut classes down for the day.

This in of itself is ridiculous given the student association voted against striking but a small splinter group decided to not accept the democratic result (leftists tend to be that way whenever they don't get their way) and strike.

And these are people she wants to 'compromise' with? Reward them for stealing other people's education? For rabble-rousing without a legit cause?

Yikes!

She fit right into the NDP world view alright.

So the Obama administration managed to get a framework in place with Iran.

What the U.S. gets out of it I'm not entirely sure.

Other than that, don't see how antagonizing Israel in search of some deal with Iran is useful. Not to mention making Arab nations more nervous.

Other than that, that, I also wonder if the three main tenets during the sanctions asking Iran to quit the violent rhetoric against Israel, stop funding terrorists and disclose nuclear activities remain seeing they never fulfilled those.

I understand at some point it might be a good idea to normalize relations with Iran but not sure this was the way to go about it since it's still a theocracy. Moreover, Obama is not exactly a strong negotiator.

I keep hearing Obama's foreign policy is a 'nuanced' one.

Yeah. No.

It's had some successes but many failures and nothing spectacular in neither.

A socialist economy is a Vampire Economy.

"Here is a study of the actual workings of business under national socialism. Written in 1939, Reimann discusses the effects of heavy regulation, inflation, price controls, trade interference, national economic planning, and attacks on private property, and what consequences they had for human rights and economic development. This is a subject rarely discussed and for reasons that are discomforting,: as much as the left hated the social and cultural agenda of the Nazis, the economic agenda fit straight into a pattern of statism that had emerged in Europe and the United States, and in this area, the world has not be de-Nazified. This books makes for alarming reading, as one discovers the extent to which the Nazi economic agenda of totalitarian control — without finally abolishing private property — has become the norm. The author is by no means an Austrian but his study provides historical understanding and frightening look at the consequences of state economic management."

On Liberty: A Contrast In Two Societies

In the U.S. these days, people over react - quite irrationally - to anything and everything they perceive to be a threat to their world view. E.g. bakers and pizzeria joints who hold different views (ie Christian - which is a no-no in the over-charged, hysterical anti-Christian multicultural corner) and states that enact laws that offend certain people as we saw in Arizona with its immigration law and recently in Indiana.

In each case, the reaction harken more to Salem than they anything remotely to do with justice or equality.

It's not the baker or the legislators acting like fascists. They're exercising their rights.

It's the protestors who demand we all think alike who behave like fascists.

They're the extremists. And quite frankly, if we truly believe in liberty we need to challenge their positions at every single turn.

In Quebec, by contrast, where there's absolutely no impulse for individual liberty as a concept, a company or civil servant can refuse to serve a person in their language (the dreaded English) and no one bat's an eye.

We just accept this nonsense.

North America needs to find that equilibrium when it comes to such issues from where I sit. The Americans are too hyper and the Canadians too apathetic.

Quote Of The Day By Executive Order

"I’m for the first time authorizing targeted sanctions against individuals or entities whose actions in cyberspace result in significant threats to the national security, foreign policy, economic health or financial stability of the United States,"

Evil Obama.

We Are All Our Own Moral Agents

While I do not agree with Memories Pizza position, I deplore the reaction of people and corporations.

Can we not have opinions anymore without facing such hideous reactions? Are we not our own moral agents free to express ourselves? What is this utter nonsensical madness?

Look at it this way, a gay person was deprived of a pepperoni pizza. Big fucking shit. He stews for a few days and life goes on. It's not right, I don't agree with it but keep perspective.

Shutting down a restaurant effectively threatens to destroy a family. When a family is hit so does the community's strength erode.

This is the face of modern progressivism? This is their sense of justice? For a group who yelp about 'proportional responses' does this strike them as 'proportional'?

***

But what intrigues me,  as was the case with Chick-Fil-A, people rally around what's right. And they show it with their wallets.

GoFundMe has raised over $26 000 for Memories Pizza.

A nice way to tell the rabble-rousing, faux-activists to fuck off.

Conservatives and libertarians are superior to progressives on this front. They give. They defend.

Progressives howl and walk away like the cowards they are. They don't give. They don't defend.

It's The Gong Show All The Time Now

Trigger warning you precious, thin-skinned melting snow flakes: Rant ensues.

Two stories annoyed me today.

The first was the story of a Washington florist who was fined for refusing to prepare an arrangement for a gay couple on religious grounds. Rather than move on to the next florist, these two social justice wannabes decide to threaten her livelihood because couldn't accept her decision.

I'm totally not down with people pulling this shit and especially don't accept judges coming down on businesses in this manner.

"Robert Ingersoll and Curt Freed - sued florist Barronelle Stutzman in 2013, applauded the ruling in a statement.

"My primary goal has always been to end illegal discrimination," Ferguson said. "I'm pleased that today's ruling clearly prohibits discrimination against same-sex couples."

Go suck a very sour lemon you dopes. Forcing someone to serve you is not justice.

Look. It sucks that people act this way but this is what it is being humans. I'm not sure bringing in the state into this is a good idea.

Which brings me to the uber-irrational, hyper-hypocritical reaction to Indiana's RFRA law. A law, as I understand it, that was first introduced by Democrats (by Ted Kennedy in the Senate and Chuck Schumer in the House) and signed by Clinton in 1993, passed in 19 states and recently defended by Holder and the Obama administration. Though it was ruled unconstitutional in 1997 by the Supreme Court.

Maybe Indiana didn't need to do this but from what I read and hear, the reaction seems over the top. As usual, people are reacting not to the content but the emotions.

Despite its Democrat roots (I believe it passed 435-0)  governors like Cuomo in New York laughably have restricted travel bans for state employees to travel to Indiana. Worse, Malloy in Connecticut doing the same thing even though his state has a RFRA law!

Even opportunists like Al Sharpton have jumped in (never a good sign) who compare it to Jim Crow laws. Something Democrats know a thing or two about since they're the ones who introduced them.

Or ESPN writers suddenly becoming political and policy historians and experts demanding Indiana change its laws.

Moreover, when asked about it, Coach K of Duke basketball wisely attempted to not discuss the issue and was soundly criticized.

Apple CEO Tim Cook got to offer his own rant in an op-ed piece.

Hey Cook, how about you sell some computers or else you may have to transition Apple into a pie company!

I won't get into Starbucks retarded 'let's talk about race' campaign. I just heard on the radio some guy was called a 'breeder' by some cunt barista.

Nice.

How about this...

DO YOUR FUCKING JOBS and spare us the self-rigtheous moralizing. Truth is, you're not that smart.

How did we arrive at a point where everything is politicized and we demand opinions on everything from everyone?

Toe the narrative or else...

Hm. Who acted this way in the past?

Years ago Rick Mercer had a segment 'Talking to Americans.' You know the plot. Take a video and ask Americans questions about Canada and laugh at their responses. It's all so splendidly parochial in its smug attempt to make us feel better.

Alas, those who read this blog know this simply isn't the case.

Canadians are equal to the task when it comes to ignorance of its own history.

Consider the closing of a GM plant in Oshawa and the comments it generated:

"I guess all that Canadian Taxpayer money that was put up to save this Dinosaur was a wasted effort then eh? Put up money for Tesla, or other non-American companies that are actually building quality products that are state of the art future-now products. We've wasted enough time and (especially) money to save these American Corporation from bad management and non-loyalty to those that came to their aid."

Tesla is American. And Ford and Chrysler are building quality politics; with the former having not taken a bail-out and the latter actually putting it to better use than GM.

Obama wasted tax dollars on GM too. Moreover, putting green initiatives burden didn't help.

Nice, if not dated, stab at Canadian nationalist jingoism though.

Next.

Canada needs to start scrapping free trade agreements with countries like the US who are not honouring them anyway. Lets get the illegal trade activities of the US government out in the open and start defending Canadian jobs!! If you're in the market for a new car, buy a Honda or a Toyota, those companies are expanding in Ontario, not shipping jobs to other countries.

Yes. Scrap a free-trade agreement with a country our economy is deeply intertwined with representing 87% of trade. Not 8.7% pal. 87%! It would be akin to separating two heads from a body. It's not possible.

Right. Canada always honors its deals. And where it's dicey - ie softwood lumber - it ends up being a piss fight over unfair subsidies. Thus proving for the millionth time why government should generally stay out of business.

More importantly, he should focus his energy less on reactionary anti-American gibberish and more on the fact Ontario (and Quebec) is not a good place to have a business. Until we put that through our thick over taxed skulls expect more of these stories.

"With a protectionist president and protectionist companies south of the border, no Canada, the US does not have your interests at heart."

Canada has been every bit protectionist in its history. Pick up a book. You may find it enlightening.

Other than that his responsibility is to the USA. Not Canada. Are Canadians this insufferable as to believe the leader of another country owes them? Start your own damn car company if it matters so much to you, right?

"We need a long term solution. Canada needs to have its own manufacturer to produce vehicles. There are only assembly plants to assemble vehicles in Ontario. Where is the "Made in Canada" logo?

That Canada doesn't have an indigenous car company is sort of embarrassing. However, when you look at the history of automobiles, it's not an easy industry to operate. Canada is essentially a branch-plant society of the United States (hiss!) so it was inevitable we were to build American cars.

And a logo needs to have an image in the form of branding power. It took Mercedes, Ferrari, Jaguar, Renault and Ford over a hundred years of pain and glory to form theirs. Canada, in this context, could never rival these brands. It has taken Korea nearly 50 years to solidify its car image. Does Canada have the moxy? Not so sure.

Sparkies. All of them.

I have to chuckle at the statement that North American workers care about the quality and safety of the cars they are building. Anybody who has ever seen a union wog complaining that he should have the right to sleep on shift if he's tired can see such propaganda for what it is. If you think you're going to collect $40 an hour to do a job an uneducated peasant can do for a buck an hour forever, you're seriously deluded. It was inevitable that these jobs were going to disappear, auto pact or no auto pact. The only difference would have been the brand name.

Wait. This guy is on the ball.

Other than that, I thought GM was saved by Obama!

THE GONG SHOW IS OVER.
