Hilarious. From Truthaboutguns.

Woman marries dog. Slippery slopes.

Who wears the pants in that relationship?

Most efficient health care outcomes.

Canada continues to impress.

Wait.

Wait times among the worst in the OECD.

But. Not. America.

Still.

People believe in the system. I love these stories. Well, in reading the article and the comments, that settles that. We must embrace mediocrity because America.

Love this comment:

"Why does the USA have to be the only country in the whole frigging world that does not think that health care is a human right? How in the hell can anyone enjoy the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness if they are sick and bankrupt from paying health bills?"

Ugh. It's not a human right. Americans are free to obtain their own health care. I have no idea what this derp is talking about.

As someone put it, some people having the means to see a doctor while others wait is unfair. Therefore, everyone should have to wait.

Canada's system is COST-CENTRIC. Not Patient-centric like in the USA.

1% Improvement! Success!

Apparently 1% more people (which translates into, what, thousands?) have insurance in the USA since Obamacare. The administration is smiling ear to ear as the smoke continues to smoulder over the fact that, erm, millions are losing the ones they had.

I don't about you but my math tells me this is not a good thing.

Kerry Rejects Putin Talks Offer

John Kerry the blathering fool has rejected an invitation to talk things through with Vladimir Putin. Probably because he knows he will be out flanked.

Once again, they put themselves in a bad position. Either they walk away or get involved militarily it seems.

Mr. Kerry is trying to show American toughness by not "negotiating." Although, I thought progressives were big on 'open dialogue."

Nothing like watching incoherent diplomacy as dictated by the Obama administration.

Imagine if Bush had done this. Kerry the Europhile would scream as loud as his locked jaw would allow.

America is in good hands.

Assuming Obama leaves a 'mess' behind, will the next leader keep reminding of needing to 'fix' his( or hers) predecessors mistakes?

True Detective Finale

I'm gonna have to go ahead and assert True Detective is quite possibly the best mini-series I've seen yet.

Awesome stuff.

Nice article on it here.

Personally, I enjoyed the ending. Rust chasing the killer was quite nerve racking because you knew it wasn't going to end well. Luckily, he survived. In fact, after a rather somber and stark tone for the first seven episodes, the eighth closed with a Springsteenian note of hope and redemption.

In the end, Marty (Harrelson) and Rust (McConaughey) not only were true detectives discovering their own personal truths, but true partners - and ultimately true friends.

Cooking Oil Guide

I cook mostly with Olive oil. Coconut oil is said to be great but I just don't like the taste of coconut too much - although I tolerate it well in Thai soup.

In terms of processed foods, I try to avoid those with soybean oil and hydrogenated oils. I'm not strict or psycho about it either.

Here's a guide to oils.

Speaking of healthy food. It's remarkable how paternalistic and patronizing nanny-states like Michelle Obama are:

"So you marched into the supermarket,” she say. “You picked up a can or a box of something, you squinted at that little, tiny label — and you were totally and utterly lost. . . . All you could do was scratch your head, confused and bewildered, and wonder: Is there too much sugar in this product? Is 50 percent of the daily allowance of riboflavin a good thing or a bad thing? And how on Earth could this teeny little package contain five whole servings? . . . Unless you had a thesaurus, a calculator, a microscope or a degree in nutrition, you were out of luck. So you felt defeated, and you just gave up and went back to buying the same stuff you always buy.”

Da fuck is she talking about?

No, seriously. Someone clue me in because that's some derping right there.

And what's this about non-elected officials compelling business to pander to their pet projects like this?

Michelle's gibberish (maybe she should start with her husband who doesn't seem to keep to a healthy diet himself), made me think of what she'd think of my upbringing.

My mother used to give me a raw egg and Marsala concoction before school. Nothing like a shot of liquor before class.

In any event, I really, really, really don't give a shit about what politicians and the government think about what constitutes a daily healthy diet because there's no such thing as a 'one size fits all' diet. We're such a complex animal we all have different tastes, tolerances and digestive issues. They may call for x amount of food groups and servings but it means shit to a person with severe allergies or other issues particular to their dietary needs.

Besides, I likely eat better than them anyway. They can only dream about the meals my mother made us growing up.

Protestors Don't Care About Hospital Because Of Politics; imagining Harper As Hitler

Oh, so this is where the phony anti-war left went.

Lemme get this straight. They'd rather make giving money to hospital - where they, you know, help people - a political issue?

Very sick in the head.

Simple as that.

At least he didn't imagine killing Harper as the left did with Bush.

Quebec: It Doesn't Belong To Them; Nurturing A Free Society

To my mind, there needs to be a narrative shift in Quebec whereby we remove the notion that Quebec only belongs to nationalist Quebecers. I know we or they don't say that publicly but this is exactly what nationalists think privately. I've been around them enough to know as leopards always show their true spots. Sure, there are some who don't think this but as a whole this is their populist shtick.

It doesn't belong to them any more Ontario belongs to Fenians or Anglo-Saxons or the south belonged to, for example, Dixecrats.

In order to set things on a proper path, this notion has to be challenged. This means the Liberal party needs to grow a pair and accept this dirty job.

At the same time, we need to introduce into Quebec public discourse the ideas of liberty and personal freedoms. Only once this is done can Quebec fully grasp its atrocious and embarrassing record on civil liberties.

Lord Give Me The Strength

The PQ candidate running in the riding where my business operates is a former leader of the student protests.

How Many Canadians Needed In A Gangbang?

Steyn on Porn:

Canada seems in many ways less regulated than the sclerotic, bureaucracy-choked republic to the south. Yet, oddly, sex is a fraught business. A couple of years back, as a reminder of the forensic intrusions of the regulatory state, I passed along this tale (from the Montreal Gazette) of the unilingual anglophone sex aid that fell afoul of the commissars:
Distribution Percour Inc., owner of Boutique Séduction in Montreal North, has been ordered by a Quebec Court judge to pay $500 for selling an item called Sleeve Super Stretch whose packaging was in English only.
The April 19 ruling came after a failed six-year effort by the Office québécois de la langue française to get the store to stick French labels on Sleeve Super Stretch boxes.
Acting on a citizen's complaint, an OQLF inspector visited the store in 2004 and photographed the packaging of the sex-toy accessory worn by men.
"Acting on a citizen's complaint": There speaks the sexually liberated statist. "I went into a sex store and I was absolutely disgusted – by the English-speaking sex aids."
In his 10-page ruling, Judge Gilles Michaud slammed the defendant's claim that the device is exempt under Quebec's law on the language of commerce and trade.
For safety reasons, Michaud said, it's important for consumers to be able to understand written instructions on the items they buy.
"We must protect those who benefit from warnings and need to understand them," Michaud wrote.
Heaven forbid that a confused francophone should attempt to wear the product on his nose. Fortunately, prosecutors were able, with the use of public funds, to hunt down Quebec-compliant sex aids:
A crown prosecutor presented the store with a similar product made by Trojan that comes with bilingual packaging.
But Gaudreau responded that the Trojan item is not exactly the same. "It vibrates," she told the court. "Customers won't like it."
You can find the court decision here, and the OQLF fine details here.

As Pierre Trudeau assured Canadians, the state has no business in the bedrooms of the nation. Unless you're in there wearing a non-vibrating anglophone sex aid - or watching a non-closed-captioned Man of Idaho engage in an insufficiently voiceover-narrated sex act with a Brazilian transsexual."

Let me add. I didn't realize Quebec was filled with retarded people protected by, well, other retarded people who wear robes.

They used the same lame ass excuse when they hunted down the word 'pasta' claiming people needed to know what they were eating.

The way I see it, and I admit I'm in a tiny minority, people who are too idiotic and ignorant to know what 'pasta' is deserves to choke on ziti.

It'll improve the IQ of the flock.

Other than that, maybe Quebecers should wear helmets before they leave the house because they never know if they're going to encounter big, bad English words that can injure them.

Alabama, Ho!

Government Corruption Everywhere

This is good, old fashioned reporting about unnecessary waste at Prospect Point from the Niagara Falls Reporter:

"Contractors knew in advance, however, from looking at the specs, that the granite was to be purchased from one, specific quarry owner, despite New York State Finance Law, 163, that prohibits such sole source bidding.

As one contractor said, referring to the overpriced granite, "Someone is getting a free cottage on the lake for this one." Another contractor said, referring to the high-priced granite, "They're paving the park with gold, and there are pot holes all over the city. What a waste."

According to the specs, the bidding contractors were required to base prices based on the purchase of the granite from Champlain Stone, at a price of around $60 per square foot, far above the market price of $20-$40 for similar quality granite.

"A cozy relationship between architects, project managers, and quarry owners, where the plan is for one quarry owner to profit by a friendly architect drawing specs to make certain that quarry is the sole source for granite, also allows quarries to inflate prices (at taxpayer expense).
"It is not unique to the Niagara Falls State Park project.

At the State's Inner Harbor Canalside Phase 3-A contract, specifically-colored granite was required there also. When the contractor, DiPizio Construction, found similar granite that met the contract specifications for substantially less, DiPizio was thrown off the job site by, what appeared at the time, a seemingly capricious project manager named Mark Smith, (who fought for months to make sure a certain quarry in Virginia got all the granite purchases), resulting in a lawsuit that will, after costs and damages, probably cost the taxpayers an additional $12 million for a $19 million job.

State Supreme Court Justice Timothy Walker ruled on November 1st that the granite DiPizio selected legally meets the specifications of the contract.

When Empire State Development Regional president, Sam Hoyt, a newcomer to the litigation, was asked in open court to identify which granite was better, he could not tell them apart and actually chose the granite selected by DiPizio.

The state's preferred granite seller was more than $100 per square foot."

Not Enough Canadian Content In Porn

As you know, I loathe the CRTC.

I don't believe no group of persons could ever be charged with the right to know what's best for me to view or listen to.

Ever.

It's absurd but not surprising Canadians apathetically accept being treated like sheepish children for the 'greater good.'

"The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) said three Toronto-based adult channels have failed to provide a minimum of 35 percent Canadian content.
The rules require a portion of programming to be at least partly written, produced or presented by persons in Canada, in order to bolster the local industry and showcase Canadian content.

A hearing has been scheduled for April 28 to decide whether the broadcasting licenses of AOV Adult Movie Channel, XXX Action Clips and Maleflixxx should be renewed.
The permits are set to expire at the end of August.

CRTC spokeswoman Patricia Valladao told AFP they will be asked to justify a renewal of the licenses, adding that "the CRTC has tried several times to bring the company into compliance."

Maybe Ms. Valladao could consider doing her part by taking on a role in the adult industry?

C'man. Will you stand on guard for thee?

Let the Cum Wars begin.

What Economic Record?

Pauline Marois says she wants to run on her economic record. Which part would that be? The one that created part-time jobs or the one where most of the employment was in the public sector?

Success! Growth!

Who knew the PQ shares economic policy ideas with the Obama Democrats? Lotsa disturbing similarities between the two.

Besides, we all know what she wants to talk about. The Quebec Charter is where her margarine is.

How do these ideas match up against the United States?

"This publication by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) answers questions about how federal employment discrimination law applies to religious dress and grooming practices, and what steps employers can take to meet their legal responsibilities in this area.

Examples of religious dress and grooming practices include wearing religious clothing or articles (e.g., a Muslim hijab (headscarf), a Sikh turban, or a Christian cross); observing a religious prohibition against wearing certain garments (e.g., a Muslim, Pentecostal Christian, or Orthodox Jewish woman's practice of not wearing pants or short skirts), or adhering to shaving or hair length observances (e.g., Sikh uncut hair and beard, Rastafarian dreadlocks, or Jewish peyes (sidelocks)).

In most instances, employers are required by federal law to make exceptions to their usual rules or preferences to permit applicants and employees to observe religious dress and grooming practices."

Politics is filled with inherent contradictions in such matters since it can't achieve true balance and equality.

As one person put it: The Obama administration likes to stomp on the religious liberty of nuns, craft stores and homeschoolers, but makes up for it by second-guessing businesses' workplace dress and grooming policies.

Bingo.

Cuba Manipulates Health Stats; This Is My Shocked Face And Tom Harkin Is A Damn Useful Idiot

Cooba has the best health care screams the retarded left-wing apologist:
"Stusser presented research last year to the Association for the Study of the Cuban Economy (ASCE) showing that declining infant and gross mortality rates predated Castro’s takeover. However, health care successes in Cuba’s colonial and republican eras “have been systematically erased or distorted,” he said in the report.
Cuba had the 14th lowest infant mortality rate in the world in 1958, lower than France, Germany, Italy, and Japan. Cuba has the 42nd lowest rate today, according to 2013 estimates in the CIA’s World Factbook.
While Cuba’s infant mortality rate is lower than the United States, Stusser said Cuban authorities use heavy-handed methods to keep it that way.
Doctors in Cuba’s public health system are pressured to induce abortions for potentially problematic pregnancies in order to artificially lower the infant mortality rate. Stusser estimated that if the deaths of living fetuses older than 21 weeks had been reported, Cuba’s infant mortality rate would be at least 50 percent higher.
Katherine Hirschfeld, chairwoman of the anthropology department at the University of Oklahoma, said in an email that she observed similar practices in Cuba in the 1990s.
One doctor told Hirschfeld that not encouraging abortions for fetuses with abnormalities “might raise the infant mortality rate.” She said Cuba lacks neonatal intensive care wards that would prevent the deaths of infants with genetic defects, creating additional pressure to abort them and keep mortality rates low.
“The Cuban government’s approach to health and health care seems to prioritize the health of ‘the revolution’ above the health of individual patients,” she said. “This means doctors must hit specific statistical targets for their communities.”

I do apologize for my aggressive nature these past few months. It's just that the derp is driving me loco.

There really isn't any excuse for Westeners to be misled by Cuba.

None.

On Civil Discourse

As only Harry Reid perceives it.

Between him and Obama, they suffer from OCD regarding Koch and Fox News respectively.

Among many of his outrageous claims, Reid has recently said Republicans are 'addicted to Koch.' He must have smiled proudly like a toddler while looking in the mirror after coming up with that play on words.

The addiction to cocaine reference is rather reprehensible and flat out reveals Reid for the unscrupulous rat he is.

He recently called Americans 'liars' for telling what's happened to their health plans under the ACA. Most of it bad, so...liars.

He's not the only deranged derelict making disgusting unsubstantiated and specious comments. We see that everywhere.

A 15 second jump onto Huffington gave me this beaut:

The Koch roaches are a cancer on our freedoms.

How exactly? They aren't the biggest political donors. Most are unions. In fact, the Democrats get most of the campaign money. Is it the money they give to various arts foundations? Hospitals?

Oh, I get it.

They swing 'libertarian.' They don't support your causes. I get it. So, cancer on freedom.

Well. You can always call Buffet and Soros.

On Global Warming

Comment:

"Mann is an applied physics guy who does paleoclimatology - ie. tries to divine temperature records from growth rings in trees, snail shell thicknesses buried in sediments and the like.
The thing you are thinking of is the University of East Anglia, which in an appallingly cavalier decision did something very much like that. Early in the computer age, they started storing temperatures on magnetic tape. They for various reasons decided to adjust the raw data. And, in an apallingly cavalier manner, they failed to (a) retain the raw data, (b) keep track of what modifications they made and why. Their excuse was that they didn't have the means to store both the 'corrected' and the raw data.

This wasn't malice, it was incompetence (botchery, not butchery as I like to call it). In essence they really didn't understand data retention. Many of them really don't understand stats either, so it's really not surprising they didn't recognize the ghastly blunder they were committing.
Mann's major crime is that he sucks at statistics, and he is unwilling ever to admit making a mistake. Thus, he came up with the hockey stick by accident using an inappropriate, flawed variation of PCA that he invented, and then refused to admit his mistakes when real stats guys started pointing them out."

Back Story To Champions; It's Not About Winning Sometimes

Without knowing Martin St. Louis I think I know where he's coming from.

A quick recap. St. Louis was surprisingly left off Team Canada's original selection roster for the Olympics. Equally interesting was the fact his GM at Tampa Steve Yzerman was also head of Team Canada. Seems as though Yzerman didn't use his power to get St. Louis onto the team choosing instead to close ranks with the brain trust that included Babcock and Hitchcock.

The snub was made all the more difficult considering an argument could easily be made that a couple of the players taken really were below St. Louis in the depth chart.

St. Louis eventually made his way onto the team after his Lightning line mate Stamkos could not make the roster due to a leg injury. Ironic poetic justice or something.

But the damage was done. And maybe he may be crying over spilled milk, but overlooking St. Louis seemed to have wounded him. One can dismiss this as him letting his ego get the better of him but who could blame him? We hear a lot about how coaches look for 'champions' and 'loyalty' and other intangibles. St. Louis met all the criteria and then some. He's won a Stanley Cup. He's represented Canada at the World Championships. But he had something else no one seemed to mentioned.

In his trophy case, he has two Art Ross trophies as well as having won the MVP in 2004!

Yet, he was behind Benn, Kunitz, Sharp, Carter and Nash? Neither of whom have the pedigree he earned?

I'm just trying to set up how he might have looked at things and if accurate, again, I don't blame him.

There might be something else at play which has little to do with the NHL and more about life as a whole. Life isn't fair. It can be downright nasty and filled with contradictions and controversies. Unfortunately, bias does play a role in our daily lives. It's not uncommon, for someone to say one thing and do another.

I remember watching, if I may digress, American Idol a couple of years back when David Foster was a coach to the aspiring singers. He said that if you weren't 'original' you weren't going to make it. Which made me think about two things. One, originality doesn't really exist. A lot of it is repackaged or stolen since a lot of shit has already been done. Two, what was so original about Foster's own music? Struck me more as gate keeping nonsense and arrogance than anything else. You can be unoriginal and succeed just like a restaurant can serve mediocre food and survive.

Unfair and a lot of crap you hear from people is just bull shit. They'll never tell you how they really succeeded and more often than not it has less to do with talent and hard work and more with plain old luck. Not in all circumstances of course (don't want to sound like an envious left-wing commie or anything) but it happens.

Here's another digression. When my city decided to put together its first elite soccer team I was on the team. Until one day I was cut much to the surprise of parents and the assistant coach. I was the only left-footed player who could play well. Yet, the coach cut me...for an inferior player. All sorts of theories thereafter took place but it angered me - to this day - I was left off a team I belonged on.

Maybe St. Louis, in the twilight of his career at 38. felt he deserved loyalty from Team Canada. Maybe he felt he earned the right to be top 14 after a lifetime of being overlooked due to bias because of his size - which probably played a part in why he was undrafted. He probably said to himself if he worked hard enough and towered above others he'd get the unequivocal respect he believed he deserved.

And despite the success and proving the skeptics wrong, maybe he thought he had to unnecessarily prove himself again. He probably overlooked many snubs in his life but this time, he stood up for himself culminating into a request for the Lightning to trade him.

Yzerman eventually traded him to New York thus closing what probably was a stressful chapter in their professional lives.

Steve Yzerman, for his part, would step down from his duties with Team Canada after winning two gold medals. No stranger to controversial cuts, recall his omission at the Canada Cups in the late 1980s and early 1990s), his resignation and St. Louis's trade were not likely coincidental.

Just two guys coming to conclusions about where they stood. Yzerman realizing he never wants to be in such a position again and St. Louis feeling betrayed for all his service.

You would think winning is a cure to such complex human feelings. Not in this case.

Quite the back story.

Obama And Senator Shaheen Reminder That Politicians Have No Moral Or Intellectual Compass

NH Journal:

"New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen fled the scene of the vote Wednesday – following her decision to support President Obama’s controversial nominee for U.S. Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights.

Debo Adgebile represented Mumia Abu-Jamal – who was convicted of murdering a Philadelphia cop in 1982. In 2011, during which time Adgebile aided his appeal efforts, a death sentence was dropped to life without parole.

That Obama nominated him for a high-level position drew a firestorm of criticism that turned it into a major national issue. Both the Fraternal Order of Police and National Association of Police Officials fiercely opposed his nomination, going as far as to say Adgebile “made his name defending one of the most notorious and unrepentant cop killers around.”

“I think he’s well-qualified,” Shaheen quipped before dashing into an elevator and away from reporters.

“Senator Shaheen’s decision to blindly support another radical Obama Administration nominee serves as a reminder that she votes with the president 99 percent of the time instead of voting with New Hampshire. Once again, Jeanne Shaheen decided to take orders from President Obama and ignore serious concerns voiced by law enforcement officials and even fellow Democrat senators,” stated NHGOP chair Jennifer Horn in a press release."

Thankfully, there were seven Democrats with enough sense to draw the line and vote with Republicans.

There's something not right in Obama's ideologically driven brain.

It's Cold Outside!

No global warming in 17 1/2 years.

Thanks to Koch dollars.

Quebec Daycare Scamming

Just a little story I heard.

Someone I know submitted a plan to get a subsidy to the Quebec government but was turned down because the bureaucrats deemed the area she operates in as not "defavorise" (under-privileged/low-income).

Yet, they DID give a subsidy to someone who plans to open in a new development in a different part of town. An area that's not 'defavorise' but likely to be inhabited by strong income earners.

As I've said the day I came into this business. The day the government stuck its fat, interventionist corrupt nose into the industry it politicized everything. With it came all sorts of questionable behavior.

$9 a day?

Someone should A) explain how much it actually costs the government to run subsidized daycare and B) the unseen costs due to corruption.

The stupidity of it all.

***

How does one know there's too much politics in enterprise?

When you're told it's a good idea to rub elbows with politicians.

I have a huge fucking problem with that.

What's seen as simply pragmatic behavior, infers I need to grovel in practice. I don't like talking to the political class because they do not match my interests.

It's insane that any business - let alone daycare - has to deal with politics so intricately. Not only is my day bogged down due to red tape I have to waste part of my time 'networking?' I never liked 'networking' in the bank and I sure as hell don't feel like it in this case.

That's how I know it's over board.

We should be free to run our affairs without having the added feature of wondering and worrying what the government will do that can impact our endeavors in seeking life in the pursuit of happiness.

I don't serve them.

I serve my family.

U.S. Working On Sanctions

What Is Freedom? Self-Reliance

Advice for future home buyers.

I don't know but the article made me wonder about how people get in a mess. You can only blame the dog eating your homework so long before accountability rests on you.

Buying a house is a massive commitment. It's one of the great symbols of independence and even freedom.

Save for a down payment. Aim for 20-25%. It'll help keep the mortgage payments (load) lower. If you can't save enough consider renting in the meantime. Mortgage payments can be an albatross and risks destroying your life.

There's no such thing as the government being able to make 'housing affordable.' If they try that stunt and scheme again the disastrous results will be predictable and inevitable.

Don't rely on the government. Their faulty belief that everyone should own a home helped create a fiasco. Worse, in an unprecedented move, they then set to bail out people and their mortgages. They got by this by blaming the banks. To me, it's no longer about the blame.

It's time to get back down to the fundamentals. If your mechanics are wrong, your curveball won't be as good as it could be.

Rely on yourself. Be reasonable about what you can afford.

Basic, time-honored tenets of saving and living within your means is the key. It's possible with a strict and logical household budget.

Give it a try.

Democrats Rule Academia

Not surprising.

It's probably just as bad here in Canada - if not worse.

A friend of mine was a Progressive Conservative back in the day and had a brief stint in a University here in Montreal. There wasn't a day that didn't go by where the commie's in the faculty didn't want to go on strike over something and anything. He was the only dissenting voice to which it earned him the nickname 'le riche.' (the rich one). Even though he wasn't and had a modest middle-class upbringing.

But it's how they role.

Hilary Godwin's Foreign Policy; CNN Goes Derp

Clinton recently compared Putin's actions to Hitler. Nice. What a swell foreign affairs team the USA has at the moment. Clinton, Kerry, Hagel and Obama. A foursome fit for a game of bridge perhaps but dealing with Ukraine and Russia may be a tad too much having hears some of their comments.

Let's just say Hilary's and Kerry's aptitudes for historical analogies leaves much to be desired.

Meanwhile, my wife left the TV on CNN as she attended to our daughter. Erin Burnett was interviewing a couple of pundits about Hilary's comments which while condemned became, surprise, a spanking for the GOP.

WaPo David Ignatius gets butthurt lamenting America can't 'speak as one voice.' While Michael Smerconish (who I enjoy listening to) believes GOP criticism of the President doesn't look good on the world stage.

They're both wrong.

To Smerconish's point, let's cut to the chase. My impression of Putin (having read about this leopard soothing guru) is he doesn't give a shit either way. Russia has its own play at hand in the Crimea.

Yeah maybe he can interpret the "dissent" as Obama not having a mandate but let's get real here. I don't seem to recall any liberals worry too much about that when Bush was prosecuting his war. At every turn before (when they voted for him), during and after his Presidency they undermined their Presidents even taking tours around the world to criticize him. You can expect that if war is ever declared the warboners and GOP will close ranks.

So they can take that left turn at Albuquerque and keep on riding off the hypocrisy cliff.

As for Ignatius, he tread the utopian 'why can't we all get along like we used to line' even though the President is showing absolutely no wisdom in dealing with the Ukraine. At the moment, like he was arming terrorists in Syria, his stance aligns him with neo-Nazi's.

So forgive thinking Americans if they don't close ranks with Obama on this foolishness, Ignatius.

We criticize the American public for its ignorance and apathy (sometimes both together) yet, when they do exercise some thinking muscles, they're told it's not proper.

What's that eloquent UK saying again? Piss off is it?

While it would be great to have a Pearl Harbor or 9/11 moment, the fact is Ukraine is not enough of an issue to rally a politically and culturally diverse nation like the United States.

A free society will NEVER be unanimous in its stance.

And that's a GOOD THING.

Obama Ranks As Among The Worst Speakers

It's been my contention that I never considered Obama much of a speaker, let alone orator. Anyone with a strong grasp of history and is capable of using their imagination and memory would have concluded the same. That plus the fact Obama stammers a lot thinking out loud as he speaks.

Yet, yet. The world cried. They hugged. They believed. He was a genius. He was the 'smartest guy in the room.' He had deep thoughts.

Has anyone seen any of these deep thoughts in action?

No. Seriously. If you can find me ONE quote or idea that will transcend the test of time I will give you a big thumb's up.

But forget about me and my acid tongue.

The Guardian looked at "How the linguistic standard of the presidential address has declined."

Know what's funny? Other than ranking as second to worse? Obama ranks lower than one George W. Bush!

Benny Goodman's Part In American Racial History

From Wiki:

"Goodman is also responsible for a significant step in racial integration in America. In the early 1930s, black and white jazz musicians could not play together in most clubs or concerts. In the Southern states, racial segregation was enforced by the Jim Crow laws. Benny Goodman broke with tradition by hiring Teddy Wilson to play with him and drummer Gene Krupa in the Benny Goodman Trio. In 1936, he added Lionel Hampton on vibes to form the Benny Goodman Quartet; in 1939 he added pioneering jazz guitarist Charlie Christian to his band and small ensembles, who played with him until his death from tuberculosis less than three years later. This integration in music happened ten years before Jackie Robinson became the first black American to enter Major League Baseball. "[Goodman's] popularity was such that he could remain financially viable without touring the South, where he would have been subject to arrest for violating Jim Crow laws." According to Jazz by Ken Burns, when someone asked him why he "played with that nigger" (referring to Teddy Wilson), Goodman replied, "I'll knock you out if you use that word around me again".

The truth is, Robinson and Goodman succeeded because good people far outnumbered racists.

People forget that.

They also forget the government gave life to racist laws. It took free people to courageously challenge them.

Goodman and Robinson didn't achieve what they did armed with state policy. They did it through the strength of their own convictions. People willingly followed.

Hollywood Too White

It's not often you make 'Idiot of the day' on this blog (Maher has made it. As has Yglesias. Huffington publishes all sorts of classic nonsense). I mean, you really have to say or write something so incredibly bad it leaves me no choice.

Khaled A. Beydoun and Priscilla Ocen take a bow.

You can pick up your $5 gift certificates at Wendy's in the morning.

Hollywood not diversified?

Oh. I beg to differ my little parochial friends. Hey, the PQ are always looking for good candidates pimping out false race narratives.

I don't know how anyone with a straight face and alleged serious mind can even think this.

They're obsessed with statistical racism it seems.

Bah.

Changing Minds One Robe At A Time

In the 10 years of blogging, this is probably one of the best stories I've posted on this wretched and worthless blog.

"That friendship would lead Davis on a path almost unimaginable to most folks. Today, Davis is not only a musician, he is a person who befriends KKK members and, as a result, collects the robes and hoods of Klansmen who choose to leave the organization because of their friendship with him."

Wow. Voluntary action between humans. No affirmative action nonsense.

The story makes you realize that Jackson, Sharpton and their ilk are nothing but a bunch of racist race hustling buffoons.

Heroes!

I'm glad justice was restored. Fucking cop.

It's sad to think many more people languish in jail - for nothing thanks to corruption and evil lawyers, judges and cops.

Vancouver Pleads Rational In The Face Of Irrational

AGW: In Public Campaigning Overdrive

Because the "settled science" has become, well, unsettled.

"Anthropogenic global warming is a scientific theory but it is also a publicity campaign. Central to that campaign is the claim that the science is entirely settled, hence that anyone who rejects any part of the conclusion is either ignorant or corrupt. The rhetorical strategy that supports that claim, one example of which was discussed in a previous post, consists of blurring the distinctions among the claims used to support the conclusion that unless something is done to sharply reduce world output of CO2, very bad things will happen. Anyone who criticizes any link in the chain is labeled a "denier," with the implication that he denies one or both of the most solidly supported claims—that temperatures are trending up or that humans are in part responsible.

In past posts I have criticized what I regard as the weakest part of the argument, the claim that warming on the scale suggested by the IPCC models would produce large net negative effects. This post deals with a risk if the step before that is seriously wrong, if the models turn out to be much less reliable than their proponents claim."

I learned over the years to do two things. One, don't accept things as article of faiths. It's always a good idea to consider a grain of salt. It'll keep your blood below boiling point. Two, don't hitch your ride to glory to a sports team. They only let you down. Becoming a sports fan has permitted me to just enjoy sports for its own sake.

Death Of Freedom Of Association

So.

Lemme get this straight.

These guys are classified as a 'gang' which clearly they are not, but every other class of individuals who freely associate - Goths, jocks, ravers, Dead heads, Springsteen fans, Phish-heads whatever - aren't?

Fuck the government is EVIL.

It's fascinating because apparently these people are from the underclass - a group the government is supposed to help and protect but instead have chosen to persecute a peaceful bunch of kids.

Notice the part about them drinking Faygo. We all know Bloombergian nanny-state laws actually hurt the poor, I can just see Michelle showing up with a baseball bat smashing them bottles up for their own good health.

Like I said.

The government is evil in its good intentions.

What I find interesting is that anecdotes are not accepted to prove whether the ACA is failing, but it's okay to use them in the context of Greece's welfare state.

Naturally.

This is amusing.

“The operation alone is 12,000 euros ($16,200),” he said. “We just don’t have it. It’s funny. I saw President Obama on television the other day, talking about how the United States, a country known for being cold to its citizens, was trying to help the uninsured. Here, we have the opposite. The state used to take care of you. But if you are sick in Greece now, you have an expiration date.”

They say Europeans are wiser and more educated.

So much for that. They're no more susceptible to tripe perceptions of America than Canadians are.

Since Europe is known to be warmer (note, not cold) to its citizens, where has the enormous costs that come with it gotten them? Not only that, they had the benefit of having the United States protect them in the post-WWII/Cold War era, thus precluding them from having to spend too much on their national armies spending just enough to keep them operational.

Yet, they're still bankrupt? If that's not sufficient evidence about the burdens of running an unsustainable generous welfare apparatus, I don't know what it is.

You know. It's ironic that a civilization that gave us rational thought and great mathematics are failing to grasp it.

Crimea's Place In European Affairs

Anyone who reads history knows Crimea has a long history.

As for the Americans, conservatives are wrong. It's not their fight. They can enter diplomatic discussions maybe impose sanctions against Russia but that's about it.

"Russia’s security perimeter reached its widest extension after World War II when, under the Soviet Union’s ideological guise, Stalin’s empire stretched to the Elbe river, communist East Germany’s border with the West. Putin has mourned the Soviet Union’s implosion as the biggest geopolitical catastrophe of the 20th century.

“Putin is behaving like the Soviet Union,” Andrei Zubov, a historian and professor in the philosophy department at Moscow State Institute of International Relations, which is affiliated with the Russian Foreign Ministry, said by phone. “He’s practically continuing the Brezhnev Doctrine. The sense of the Brezhnev Doctrine was to say that there’s a certain space outside the Soviet borders which is ours. That’s what Putin is continuing.”

Poor Putin, He mourns the fall of the pathetic communist Soviet Union.

From Paul Craig Roberts (link above):

"The ignorance, absence of integrity, and lack of independence of the US media greatly enhances the prospect for war. The picture being drawn for insouciant Americans is totally false. An informed people would have burst out laughing when US Secretary of State John Kerry denounced Russia for “invading Ukraine” in “violation of international law.” Kerry is the foreign minister of a country that has illegally invaded Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, organized the overthrow of the government in Libya, tried to overthrow the government in Syria, attacks the civilian populations of Pakistan and Yemen with drones and missiles, constantly threatens Iran with attack, unleashed the US and Israeli trained Georgian army on the Russian population of South Ossetia, and now threatens Russia with sanctions for standing up for Russians and Russian strategic interests. The Russian government noted that Kerry has raised hypocrisy to a new level."

"...Kerry, as is always the case, is lying through his teeth. Russia hasn’t invaded Ukraine. Russia sent a few more troops to join those at its Black Sea base in view of the violent anti-Russian statements and actions emanating from Kiev. As the Ukrainian military in Crimea defected to Russia, the additional Russian troops were hardly necessary.

The stupid Kerry, wallowing in his arrogance, hubris, and evil, has issued direct threats to Russia. The Russian foreign minister has dismissed Kerry’s threats as “unacceptable.” The stage is set for war."

Kerry is an elitist joke.

The Parti Quebecois have called an election.

If there's one thing they do well, like Obama, is play politics. You can bet they gauged the pulse of the electorate and know their brand of populist drivel is popular among the base.

Reviving Viruses

From CSM:

"Scientists have revived a new type of virus that had been buried in the frigid ground for thirty millenniums.

Frozen for more than 30,000 years, this new type of giant virus called “Pithovirus” has survived under extremely harsh conditions of northeastern Siberia. They are called "giant" because unlike "regular" viruses they can be seen using an optical microscope."

"...In addition to improving the understanding of viruses, the "revival of such an ancestral amoeba-infecting virus used as a safe indicator of the possible presence of pathogenic DNA viruses, suggests that the thawing of permafrost either from global warming or industrial exploitation of circumpolar regions might not be exempt from future threats to human or animal health," according to the paper."

North American Diaspora

I might have posted this in the past.

American and Canadian diaspora.

Not surprisingly, there are more Canadians in American than vice-versa. My guess is most Americans here are asked to do so by their companies - temporarily or otherwise. Moving for for a 'better life' is probably negligible since you can pretty much match Canada's standard of living anywhere in the U.S. I reckon. Massachusetts, New York, Minnesota, California, for example, are pretty liberal even by Canadian standards.

On the flip side, economically speaking especially, it shouldn't shock anyone Canadians head south for better opportunities.

Interestingly, Canada ranks 5th where Americans relocate.

More Complicated Than Setting Colored Lines; Ukraine Is Not America's Fight

Not surprisingly, some editorials are angling the U.S. make some noise in the Russia-Ukraine issue by sending in battleships.

To do accomplish what, I'm not sure.

As I posted earlier, America is better served by sitting this one out and let it unfold. It makes no sense for them to get involved in Russia's back yard anymore if they Russkie's intervened in Mexico or Canada.

Yeah, yeah international laws blah, blah.

We all know those laws are extremely pliable.

This is not going into Syria or Libya or Egypt or any other tin pot country with a dictator.

This is Russia.

The same Russia that swallowed Napoleon and Hitler after grave military miscalculations. Absent of any real tactics, the Russians allowed their unforgivable climate and endless streams of sacrificial bodies to stain the snow with blood.

The same Russia that has one of the world's strongest armies with enough fire power that can take out American battalions.

The same Russia with nuclear capabilities.

Ukraine, for its part, despite its record of playing pawn to European powers in the past, possesses a strong army itself.

'We must do something, anything' in this context, is foolish - if not arrogant.

Once more, Obama is being put to the test. His foreign policy record has been spotty at best, incoherent in parts, aloof in its puzzlement brought to a spectacular failure in Syria where he was out maneuvered by Putin.

This will confirm whether what came before were just anomalies further complicated by circumstances out of his control (though he walked into the Syria trap himself) or he doesn't in fact possess the diplomatic skills in a dangerous situation.

Reminds me when Michael Corleone said to his brother Tom Hagan, 'you're not a war-time consiglieri, Tom. You're out.'

We'll see if Obama is a war-time consiglieri.

Romney Was Right: Russia A Challenge For American Diplomacy

Remember when Obama mocked Romney (and Palin for that matter) for claiming that Russia was a bigger threat to the United States than Al-Queda saying the 'Cold War is over?' And all the King's twirpy men and jesters in the media laughed out loud? Har, har, HAR!

When he said that I thought to myself "so what? Russia is still a big enough player to challenge American power. Granted, there's more cooperation between the two powers but it's an uneasy one to say the least."

It nevertheless lent some insights into how Obama views history.

That is, in a very limited manner.  Cold War over, ergo Russia no problem!

***

Anyway. Something tells me Russia means business in Ukraine and I'm afraid the United States has little leverage in this one. Not sure what John Kerry was trying to accomplish or say when he said 'Russia is using 19 century military tactics in a 21st century world' (or something to that effect). This sort of stuff wasn't exclusive to the 19th century.

Meanwhile, not to be out derped, Obama vapidly asserted 'Russia is on the wrong side of history.' This isn't University. It reminded me of students in my class who, with a sincere, straight face, believed Canada didn't need a military because 'no one would attack us' or 'there were no major wars' to worry about especially with the Cold War dead.

The irony being, it was in various history and politics classes. Seems they were reading history, but they weren't listening to it. Clueless, naive, and progressive I reckon.

Anyway.

Putin plays chess. Obama checkers.

Limited Doughnut Selection

I was driving around today and craved a muffin. Finding a quick muffin on the go is very hard. There are places, of course, that sell them but finding one around the corner is difficult. It comes down to two choices: Tim Horton's and McDonald's.

Nice.

At one point there was Krispy Kreme and Dunkin' Donuts; Mmmufins are generally found in food courts. Then, suddenly, they disappeared leaving one player.

Lately, McDonald's decided it's gonna try and take some coffee and muffin market share from Tim's. I don't drink regular coffee but when I do, I find McDonald's brew is better than Tim's.

Fucking Tim's. It's twice I go to get a late afternoon chocolate chip muffin and they're out. It's not like I can hop onto the next establishment. So I'm stuck playing pragmatic-man and ordering a lemon poppy seed muffin.

Look to Connecticut.

What's remarkably and inherently evil in all this is the police will transform PEACEFUL citizens into criminals because they're choosing to ignore a law that amounts to assaulting their personal civil liberties. They were not breaking the law when they legally purchased their firearms but suddenly they're in violation?

Incredible.

"Experts claim that as many as 350,000 people are in violation of the law, and over 100,000 of those people could face felony charges. That means over 3.6% of the entire adult population of Connecticut has been transformed into a felon by the new registration law. They Will Always Be Attracted To Force

The NYT writes:
"In a period when all politicians are either dull or unwilling to break away from routine – “tradition” ; when it seems that in every Western nation the spring of imagination is dried up, Mussolini gives the impression of an ever-welling source. One may object to any for of dictatorship, but one cannot help being stimulated by the phenomenal vitality of this man who, in his role of dictator, has commanded the barren soil of Italy to produce wheat within a given time; ordered his territory to be expanded (by reclaiming swamps) without extending his fronters; and, not content with summoning new cities into existence, is changing the face of the Eternal City by diggin up the buried glories of Imperial Rome….
In order to create a new Italy he is returning to the old sources of Roman strength and domination. He wishes to resuscitate the materlal vestiges of ancient Rome because they are beautiful and invaluable, but also, andd mainly, because in so doing he hopes to revive the old virtues of the rugged men who under Iron discipline once fashhioned Roman power…. Here I had the feeling that there is no limting condition imposed on any Fascist project; a strange impression that whatever Mussolini commands is executed without being hampered by problems, practical or financial."

The last line cuts right to the chase of what progressive thought is all about: A desire and fetish for control and power free of any opposition to instill their vision of an ideal world.

They're totalitarians are heart.

I hadn't realized just how long the NYT had been diseased.

Alas, the NYT weren't alone. There were no shortage of writers, poets, celebrities, liberals, politicians and criminals who praised and admired the defunct ideologies of Mussolini and Hitler. It's right there in plain sight for all to see if they care to research and pay attention. It didn't stop there. They praised Mao. Castro. Che. Right up to Chavez.

With a track record like this, how are they not leftist reactionaries?

What I've noticed lately is the attempt by the left slowly change and shift the narrative in a way such that to extricate itself from their past fetish and alliances to such failed movements. Suddenly, somehow, the people who had the foresight to stand against the madness (notably conservatives and classical liberals as well as people of any political stripe endowed with a sober and intelligent mind) are being spun into the reactionary extremists.

The mind spins at their penchant for revisionism.

If progressives were an identity, they'd be degenerate gamblers and junkies.

It's...Progressivestan.

That's how much they're pissing me off. I'm sick of their bull shit of trying to make me a second class citizen.

All I'd do is talk libertarianism.

Ted Nolan's Outrageous Predicament

The black balling of NHL coach Ted Nolan is perhaps one of the great mysteries in all of pro sports. Seems to me this guy is among the best coaches in hockey. Everywhere he turns up he manages to take a struggling, mediocre team and fashion them into a competitive unit. Yet, no one hired him for all this time?

In 2011, he took over as coach of the Latvia hockey team leading them to an 8th place finish at 2014 Olympics including a nerve racking 2-1 loss to Canada in the quarter-finals.

In November of 2013 he was named interim coach (because he has earned enough respect to get a full-time fricken job) of the Buffalo Sabres (a team he coached from 1995-97) and guess what? All of a sudden, despite all the turmoil, he has them playing hard, competitive hockey.

Give Ted Nolan to the Montreal Canadiens and watch what he does with them.

Oh, right. He doesn't meet the criteria of speaking French.

Speaking of stupid thinking....

****

"On December 16, 2005, Nolan was the victim of racial harassment during a Wildcats road game against the Chicoutimi Saguenéens. Fans in the stands shouted racial slurs at him and directed gestures such as the "tomahawk chop" and shooting a bow and arrow towards him as he stood behind the Moncton bench. Fans continued to taunt Nolan outside the arena after the game as he boarded the team bus with his players. The incident, he said later, left him shaking with anger and humiliation. The fans' behavior was condemned both by the QMJHL commissioner and Saguenéens management, the latter of which issued a formal apology to Nolan. As a result of the events that transpired in Chicoutimi, he referred to the Saguenay Region as being the "Alabama" of the QMJHL. After, he also had criticized the Gatineau Olympiques organisation for putting the 'Tomahawk Chop' song, which he said was racist. Because of the incident, the QMJHL launched a new anti-discrimination policy that covers everyone involved with the circuit, from team and league officials, to players and fans."

These are the folks the Parti Quebecois pander to.

Of course, he's absofuckinglutely right about the Alabama reference.

That's all these critters are. Stuck with a mentality that harkens back to the deep American south made popular in movies like To Kill A Mocking Bird.

But there's a disturbing difference. American southerners never claimed to be sophisticated, tolerant, or open-minded. The PQ claim to be an enlightened bunch. So delusional they are (and I repeat this) Lisee thinks he's Thomas Jefferson. More, as I've said, like George Wallace.

Quotes Of The Day; Death Of Satire

The art of writing satire is all but dead today. There's but one writer I'm aware of who is satirical and he's conservative, P.J. O'Rourke.

It's not surprising, what, given all the horrible - nay! evil - addiction to political correctness that threatens this precious art form. Satire can't be censored or diluted to fit the sensitive sensibilities of pansies. It's not for the faint-hearted indeed.

I hold such people with contempt.

There's always someone who takes things way to literally preventing them from exercising their imagination permitting them to go beyond the literal word.

Let me amend. I hate such people. They're boring and annoying in their self-righteous flatulent notion of thinking of the children.

Fuck them.

And fuck the children too.

Could you imagine Juvenal writing today in modern newspapers? His vulgarity would cause a flood of letters to the editor calling him to be fired. Everything must be safe so as to not offend. Which is why I can't stand being in groups. I have to watch my every word lest there be a busy-body moron whose default position is 'I'm offended.'

Why, in my hockey pool - of all places - I was taken to task for using the word 'retarded.' It seems, the editors of the pool (well, self-proclaimed PC cops) didn't like the word being associated with children.

After telling them to all respectfully fuck off, invoking references, words and phrases that could be taken as hate speech, or that could offend fat people, and other "victimized" group (who isn't today, right?) managed to magically steer clear of criticism.

People, people. Consistency, please! Otherwise, how am I to take you seriously?

I lament the state of everything when it comes to freedom of speech in writing. There's a full blown assault by remedial minds and twits out to 'rectify' all perceived ills. From top to bottom (the President and his sure to fail social programs, dead-beat academics with stale ideas etc.) we're treated to an vertigo inducing array of spectacular stupidity (cleansing the word 'nigger' from Twain novels comes to mind). And when something passes for art, it's a piece of self-indulgent shit that just happens to lay in line with whatever crappy philosophical trend happens to be.

How can one not conclude we exist in a Dark Age?

Bah.

Fuck you.

(I hope you're offended).

****

Which brings me to American satirist Ambrose Bierce. His interpretation of some human vices and virtues, cultural norms and etiquette:

Politeness , n. The most acceptable hypocrisy.
Success, n. The one unpardonable sin against one's fellows.

Selfish, adj. Devoid of consideration for the selfishness of others.
Virtues, n. pl. Certain abstentions.

Death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate.
Religions are conclusions for which the facts of nature supply no major premises.

  • War is God's way of teaching Americans geography.

  •
  • Liberty, n. One of imagination's most precious possessions.
  • Logic, n. The art of thinking and reasoning in strict accordance with the limitations and incapacities of the human misunderstanding.

  • Justice, n. A commodity which in a more or less adulterated condition the State sells to the citizen as a reward for his allegiance, taxes and personal service.
Politics, n. A strife of interests masquerading as a contest of principles. The conduct of public affairs for private advantage.

(Poof! Goes progressive notions! Top men not in it for the collective but for control!)

Abstainer, n. A weak person who yields to the temptation of denying himself a pleasure. A total abstainer is one who abstains from everything but abstention, and especially from inactivity in the affairs of others.

I've always felt politicians who abstain should be hunted down, tarred and feathered for their cowardice. Dante had a place for 'fence-sitters' in The Inferno.

    And finally...

Idiot, n. A member of a large and powerful tribe whose influence in human affairs has always been dominant and controlling. The Idiot's activity is not confined to any special field of thought or action, but 'pervades and regulates the whole.' He has the last word in everything; his decision is unappealable. He sets the fashions and opinion of taste, dictates the limitations of speech and circumscribes conduct with a dead-line.

Think about that for a second.

    Think hard.

It pretty much applies to everything to people in position of power whether they are Deans, Judges, lawyers, CEO's, and yes, the worst of them all politicians. With it comes much potential for corruption and abuse.

That's why I've always held in suspicion ANYONE with power.
