Bill Moyers. /face palm.
Man. It's amazing how an article can be good at constructing a narrative using facts, but at the same time fail to contextualize by going straight to relativism.
This is where they falter.
And this is an unforgivable intellectual - and even moral - indiscretion.
Nowhere do we see this being played out better than with the left contorting itself in its tenuous defense of Islamic terrorism.
Salon's point (if you can call it that - hey, it's Salon after all) is the same as Obama when he amateurishly invoked the Crusades. It always one way or another comes down to the Crusades with the left.
Apparently, current actions by one group (Arab terrorists) can't be criticize nor can it be connected to Islam in any way because centuries ago Christians did bad things too.
If this be so, the logically countries like Italy, France and Germany can never offer an opinion because of Caesar/Mussolini, Napoleon and the Nazis.
It's the same, specifically, with how they treat American history. They hate America because it's not what it should be in their eyes. Whatever it may be.
As for Moyers pathetic angle. A simple Google search with proper handling of the results shows that ISIS's body count is astounding and one in which American lynchings (which have nothing to do with Christianity) can't match.
The thing I don't get is why so much energy is expunged arguing ISIS is not Islam yet no such distinction is made with regards to Christianity where all of a sudden any event in our long history is conflated with Christianity. Thus, Nazism is not an ideologically driven movement but part of a wider phenomena labelled Christian.
Same thing is happening with Moyers (a highly regarded liberal journalist - remember, the media is not liberal) here. It's outrageous to assert 'when America acted like ISIS'. There were indeed dark times in America but nothing on the level we see with ISIS.
It's unfortunate as it is nonsensical.
They read history but they don't seem to understand it.

Never mind about Christianity and the fact the religion does not actively murder people for ideological purposes. Whatever atrocities committed in its name has long since been dealt with.
In my view, it's not about this at all. It's more about the progressive left and its disdain - if not hatred - for Western civilization for we fail miserably to meet our lofty ideals. It's really super logic in that they are forever condemned to be bitter; which leaves them vulnerable to positions taken my Moyers.
Never mind the great and the good far outweigh whatever flaws they choose to cherry pick.
