Astonishing Alexandria Virginia Arrests 10 Year-Old 'Brandishing' Toy Weapon

Got this from Skeptical Eye.

This is gonna get somewhat ugly so if you're sensitive move on.

I think I'm going to start a "Fuck them in the ear" segment" for stories like this one from Alexandria, Virginia.

A kid arrested for carrying a toy gun.

Let's look at some quotes:

"...A 10-year-old Douglas MacArthur Elementary school student was charged with brandishing a weapon after police officers found a toy gun in his backpack Tuesday morning.
Alexandria City Public Schools officials alerted authorities after learning from the parent of another student that the fifth grade child had shown a “weapon” to classmates on the bus ride home Monday afternoon, said district spokeswoman Kelly Alexander. By the time district staff contacted ACPS’ transportation company, all of the children had been dropped off for the day, she said."

"Showing" a gun is brandishing? Idiots. Everyone is losing their minds after Newtown. Quite frankly, rather than appeal to calm and reason, Obama jumped all over the emotional track that didn't really help matters.

Bad leadership from bad leaders does that.

Should they arrest the guy in the picture too?

"..Though a surveillance camera taped the ride, administrators reviewing the film did not see a weapon. Attempts to contact the suspected child’s guardian likewise proved unsuccessful. The contact information they provided to the district was erroneous, Alexander said.
School staff intercepted the child as he arrived Tuesday morning — he did not take the bus, Alexander said — and officers retrieved the toy gun from his bag, according to law enforcement officials.

Police department spokesman Jody Donaldson described the fake weapon as a silver handgun with a black handle and orange tip.

“The gun did not actually shoot or propel anything,” Donaldson said.

Oh. Ok, so end of story, right? Go home have some Oreo's kid.

Creepy last lines.

Wait.

"...The child was taken into police custody on the misdemeanor charge following the incident and suspended from the Janneys Lane school, officials said. Superintendent Morton Sherman did not rule out the possibility of expulsion in a statement released after the incident.

“The safety of our students is always our first concern,” he said. “The school division will complete its investigation in cooperation with the police as we consider further disciplinary action, including expulsion. As always, we encourage direct communication from parents, including personal phone calls.”

Officials did not say why the toy gun rose to the level of an arrest, but police spokeswoman Ashley Hildebrandt described the department’s response as “pretty standard.”

First off, fuck Sherman in the ear for over blowing.

Wasn't it determined it was a TOY? One that "didn't shoot or anything?" And now this dipshit superintendent is threatening EXPULSION?

Fuck you.

Safety first but let's fucking traumatize (who knows what kind of psychological ramifications this can have) a god damn 10 year-old by arresting him for carrying a fucking TOY. Real fucking normal you assholes.

Pretty standard, huh, to do that to kids.

Fuck you in the ear.

As one commenter put it: It's a war on children.

***

This reminds me of a story at my daycare a couple of years back.

My former director would bring her son in from time to time and with it came a trail of toys of which some were left behind.

One of those toys was a silver and black toy pistol. A parent noticed it IN MY OFFICE and said  "is that a gun?" with a surprised look. Reading between the lines wasn't too hard.

In those seconds where you're decoding a message a million things race through your mind when faced with irrational thought. But these are the times.

He was a particularly hyper and paranoid parent by nature and his quip was of no surprise to me.

You know. Millions of kids played with toy guns, ammo, bow and arrows and the like once upon a time. We would run in forests and gallop through fields without a care or thought of rules and regulations. We were free to let our imaginations conquer us.

I don't know where society bailed and went full blown idiotic. The victory of unreasoned and irrational minds is damn near complete. Did millions of us turn "violent" for playing with toys? When did this begin to even be equated and be accepted as rational policy?

Today, I don't see too many kids running around in fields or forests anymore.

We'd rather wrap them up in saran wrap and "protect" them from the bogey-man...of life.

/shakes head in disappointment.
