Let me see if I follow this. We keep hearing about the omnipotent power of Fox and Rush Limbaugh and their corrosive influence on an ignorant and weak American populace. Right? The White House certainly keeps hammering at this.
But. In three elections that took place in the U.S. yesterday, the Republicans took two - New Jersey and Virginia. The other, in New York, was thought to go to a conservative candidate because, well, Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh were pushing him. As it turns out, he lost to a Democrat. Bummer for that trio. Moderate GOPers feel no sympathy I'm sure.
Meanwhile, Obama had campaigned for the Democrats running in Joisey and 'Ginia but the one person he didn't personally support, Bill Owens, won in New York.
The loss in Virginia and New Jersey is especially damaging given the President carried those states last year. That he wasn't able to rally the troops this time around - just one year later - has to be disappointing.
The Democrats are spinning this loss in all sorts of ways. The way I see it this is like I view sports. Final score 2-1. Losing teams will always try and find excuses for a loss. It's natural. Sometimes, it's even justified. More often than not, however, the mirror is pretty useful.
It may not be a harbinger of things to come in 2010, but still, it's hard to be overly positive about these results if you're a Democrat.
