Another company has virtue-signalled. This time Heineken (along with Dos Equis) have decided to pull sponsorship of Fresno Grizzlies* depicting McMarxist Ocasio 'I'm the boss' Cortez as an 'enemy of freedom' alongside that weirdo in North Korea Kim Jong-Un and one very dead Fidel Castro.
Well, if the shoe fits.
Heineken is in their full rights to do so. Companies pull out of advertising for different reasons all the time.
Nonetheless, not sure this is one they should hang their hat on.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is just about as shrill, ignorant and illiberal a mindset as they come.
I highly doubt Heineken gives a shit about the endless and dangerous unsubstantiated claims of Trump or Republicans being 'racists' or 'misogynists'; never mind every day citizens who are probably customers considered to be 'alt-right' despite moderate views.
The McMarxist tart is not above asserting such nonsense.
But more to the point. She pretty much made clear, if given more power, she would essentially govern as an 'enemy of freedom'. She's a full blown socialist and socialists - when it comes down to it - believe the collective prevails over the individual. By their very own internal philosophical logic they have to curb liberty and in doing so, this makes them enemies of freedom.
Once that happens, it comes at the cost of, you guessed it, liberty and freedom.
One must abdicate personal choice and agency to their god the state. Cortez with more power equals 'be careful what you defend and wish for'. She's not out to better your life. She's out to be another Chavez. They want to enrich themselves at your expense.
Exploitation of the worker by capitalism is actually projection on their part. They want to pillage and plunder the coffers for naked power.
Don't be fooled into thinking because they claim to be 'democratic socialists' they're going to respect individual rights. Democracy in the wrong hands or system will turn tyrannical. Hence, Mill's famous line 'tyranny of the majority'.
This is why a Republic is what the United States was originally intended to be. After all, communist China and the former Soviet Union claimed to be 'democratic'.
More to the point, the uber-foolish Green New Deal - in all its impractical and irrational positions - is precisely a form of 'enemy of freedom' as it funnels all into the power of the state. I know leftists think by making you a slave to the state 'frees you' but it really doesn't.
The GND, ironically, is a recipe for mass death and starvation for more dangerous thanclimate system change could ever achieve.
As for Castro, I bet you she liked the guy. Indeed I've never met a left-wing who wasn't an apologist for that murderous dictator.
AOC is an enemy of freedom because of her horrible regressive policies and abject ignorance and stupidity. She's a model; a barometer for me to show my daughter and who not to emulate.
Gillette, Starbucks, Nike, Heineken, Patagonia. Products I don't and won't miss.
