The perception, so it goes, is that America has low taxes. Not all taxes. Corporate taxes are actually lower in Canada. Geez, what does that say about what's going on down south?
Canada doesn't fair too well whenever public health and education is measured, but when it comes to business and offering favorable conditions (according to the last survey by The Economist anyway) for them, this country ranks pretty high. In fact, one thing that always stood out was how much less government red tape, though still substantial, a Canadian goes through to open up a business than his or her counterpart in the USA.
Anyway, flares should go up in America when Tim Hortons moves its headquarters from Delaware back to Canada.
Hope they aren't negatively impacted by the whole "buy American" stimulus thing going on down there.
ReplyDeleteWasn't there some huge loophole associated with registering a business in Delaware? I remember reading that this is why one of the smallest states is HQ to so many corporations.
That's funny: Where does a doughnut fall?
ReplyDeleteI did a basic search and came up with this about the loophole:

Delaware is a tax-free state to boot. I wonder if TH's moved there while it was owned by Wendy's. It would make sense it would.
