Quebec welfare statistics. Not a pretty picture.
According to provincial statistics 488 000 people (all in French. Get it in English? Ha!) are on welfare social assistance out of a population of about 7.7 million (labour force of 4.2 million) or roughly 6% of the population (12% of labour force). Those collecting unemployment insurance stands at 154 000 for a combined total of 642 000 (8%) and (15% of labour).
