We're so busy yapping away at the other asteroid (Obama's Chocolate Money Factory) we forget about the ones which remind us of our petty insignificance.
We are insignificant. Our earth, our solar system with our average sized star, nay, even our Milky Way, is but nothing in the vastness of space, a universe containing at least 100 billion galaxies. The universe cares not whether we live or die, or whether or not the earth remains a place filled with life. One day another asteroid will hit our planet, but we as a species may be extinct by then, just another animal that ruled earth for a time and then disappeared (and in our case, probably after a much, much shorter time span then the dinosaurs).
Now I've got to go watch some Honeymooners Classic 39 for a few laughs.
