A blunt and passionate plea by Michel-Kelly Gagnon (formerly of the Montreal Economic Institute I believe) about the need for French-Quebecers to learn English.
I am surprised. I thought all Quebecois could speak English. I am French and it is true it's not always easy to understand everything the Quebecois say - since they have their own diallect and a very different accent from ours... (and some of their expressions are quite hilarious actually..). Whether they learn English or not, I don't mind - the main thing is that we understand them!
If you ask the French, they'll tell you that the Quebecois don't even speak French, so yeah, I'd say it's time to learn English.

ReplyDeleteUnfortunately Claire not all Quebecers speak English. I don't know what the numbers are but it's pretty high I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteTo explain why this is so would take a course.
And yes the dialects can be used to hilarious effect when used right. Quebecers are actually pretty funny.
