Obama's Egypt Performance

Military historian and classicist Victor Davis Hanson has this conservative take.

Hanson once wrote:

"The Democratic Party reminds me of the Republicans circa 1965 or so – impotent, shrill, no ideas, conspiratorial, reactive, out-of-touch with most Americans, isolationist, and full of embarrassing spokesmen."

Hanson is a wonderful read when it comes to ancient warfare and history.

His politics, despite being a registered Democrat, is neoconservative. So he does call for aggressive American interventionism.

Nonetheless, I agree Obama has been less than inspiring and unconvincing when it came to Egypt. I can't quite put my finger on it but it just isn't jiving.

  1. He is caught between a rock and a hard place. THe "revolution" represented a danger to U.S. interests in the Gulf and to the oil supply. It could signal a change of attitude towards Israel...but the spirit behind it all was in line with Obama's deep feelings so repressed by the current situation in Congress.
Anyhow, the state of emergency has been replaced by martial law, not much of a progress as I see it and the conservative can be a little happier...Obama? Not sure.

  2. I thought he was supposed to be superiour especially in foreign policy.

Martial Law: Yeah, that kinda will happen when a 30-year dictator steps down.

    Questions:

-Bush was in a couple of "hard places" and people didn't seem to care.
    -What deep feelings?
-Change of attitude towards Israel, in what way do you mean?

  4. Maybe.

But they do have strong relations; especially on the Suez.

Israel's hostility is correlated to its perception of security; or lack thereof.

But this goes beyond Israel. Now Tunisia - who started this - want to finish the job too. And Yemen too.
