Don't Be Conned. Be Smart

Dear Customer,
We have upgraded our system of ATM card services to prevent ATM fraud.
You would have to apply for the upgrade on your ATM card on our website: webpay-interswitchnigr.t35.com or your ATM card access will be suspended within 48hrs.

Interswitch Nigeria.

If you ever fall for this sort of email scam, you don't deserve an email account.

Seriously, how patently absurd is this? Aside from the fact ATM cards are generally given to you by your local bank, why in the world would I be a customer with a company in Nigeria of all places? If you get an email from Africa or Russia here's a piece of advice: DELETE!

Interswitch.

Please.

  1. Last week I got a message from Les Caisses Desjardins. I am not a member of a Caisse, but the message was so realistic that I took to the Caisse near my place. They looked at it admiringly...and promptly faxed it to their security services. Except for a very unobtrusive error and the fact that no bank or caisse would ever send such a message it was so well done that less informed persons could very easily fall for it.

  2. Does you email provider help to protect you? Sometimes they send messages with emails saying this may be a "phishing" message - that sort of thing.

I get a bunch of them from CIBC. I've never banked with them. Either way, you did the right thing.

I hope you're ok with the Sabia appointment and if not, I hope it's not because he's a "maudit" outsider. :<)

  3. A) I get my phishing messages from BMO, RBC and les Caisses. They are automatically diverted to the junkmail box and I block the sender...but they seem to have an endless supply of senders.
    B) I don't mind Sabia, I mind the way he seemingly was nominated though. But most of all I resent the recklessness of the former administrations of the CDP. Sabia inherits a mess not of his doing and he inherited it in a messy way. All the time though those guys fooled around with MY money, my contribution, and yours, to the RRQ and my contribution to the RRPE (Régime de Retraite du Personnel d'Encadrement du gouvernement du Québec). My investment is safe since I have a fixed payment pension plan. Those to come may have diminished benefits because of that bloody commercial paper.

  4. I hear you. We'll see.

I never bought ANY hedge funds for my clients when I was a broker. I found all those things - options derivatives, hedges - a game of roulette and nonsense.

But "groupthink" sets in after a while. Everyone was doing it so it seemed like it was a new way of doing things. A "paradigm" of sorts.
