Avis Shows How Not To Handle Customer Disputes

Visitors to the U.S. From other countries must provide both a valid drivers license from their country of residence as well as a valid International Drivers License or passport in order to rent from Avis. We are aggressively investigating the customer's allegations regarding the handling of this matter, as we do not tolerate any form of discrimination. So far, our ongoing investigation suggests that this customer is unfairly maligning us with unfounded accusations.

Measuring Harper: (Too) Old Conservatism

As I've discussed through the years, I never saw much wisdom on how the Conservatives handled social policy. In fact, I found it downright grotesque. In an age where law enforcement across the continent have finally figured out there are better ways as Texas discovered (in link), Harper decided to go full blown absurd with 'tough on crime'.  

Economically, the record was marginally better but overall nothing to get riled about since the economy was decent all things considered. Lest we forget he was forced to open the purse strings because of the threat of the Liberals and NDP merging thus somewhat skewing his spending record. I don't expect the Liberals to be marvels of economics.

Which would bring the total to $5-$6 billion. Therein lies the truth of the matter, Bombardier probably needed that much liquidity just to keep going. 

The cronyism runs deep because no one in their right mind would give such a company with such a dubious track record that much money.

Meanwhile, these paragons of business tighten the credit screws on small business. Suddenly business metrics like profits, earnings, sound management, sales and so on matter. Just to get a $10 000 loan is an ordeal. In my case, it's better to just pay with VISA, accept the interest and pay it down than go through the bull shit with institutions like Caisse and other banks. With Bombardier it's all based on bull shit projections in a company that continuously misses its targets.

You're off your rocker if you defend this garbage.

A Protected, Sane And Civilized Society Is An Armed One

As Obama insidiously continues to angle for more gun control it's worth bringing what the Secretary General of Interpol said:

Recall the Detroit police chief (and Minneapolis as noted in the article) suggested people be armed as well. 

Reality is going to get the better of the gun-control side sooner or later. As attacks become more sophisticated and unpredictable, law enforcement may indeed call for an armed citizenry. It will prove to be too costly for already stretched police forces to protect people.

And this alliance will be a good one.

About the Second Amendment. This nonsense about repealing it doesn't get settled once and for all.

The amendment was written precisely as intended - shall not be infringed. Had it not, I think the Founding Fathers would have written it differently. The argument it was a 'different time' and was for a 'militia' as if there was some sort of nuanced meaning to it is rubbish and has run its course. It's vapid cocktail conversation for progressives; naturals at misinterpreting history.

There's no need to over think what they meant. Notably, they understood a well-armed citizenry was necessary should the system they set up fail and the government turns to tyranny. They understood all too well the lessons of history.

Obamacare: Exercise In Deception

In the early days of Obamacare conservatives warned it was designed to fail in order to get Americans onto single payer. The theory was that Obamacare was not going to deliver what it promised thus leaving policy makers no choice but to scrap it and move onto single payer.

Liberals and progressives, naturally, scoffed it off as the usual conservative 'fear-mongering' because they couldn't handle a black president. In their minds, it all made sense. To the extent, sense as dictated by the state. I don't think, at least not from what I've read over the years. they ever really critically analyzed this 2900 paged monstrosity. I'm almost convinced there are recipes for Hungarian goulash in there somewhere. In any event, it's not like progressive have exhibited any substantial thought on climate change and economics. They just accept 'it's because so'.

I myself wrote Americans were screwed and were on a path to single payer because the mathematics behind Obamacare were incoherent. Stupid terms like 'revenue neutral' were thrown around and people swallowed it like zombies eating flesh and drinking blood to wash it all down.

It wasn't that hard to see folks.

Premiums have shot up (remember people were supposed to save $2500?) and coverage is sparse (remember people could keep their plans and doctors?) to the point people have determined it's better to just pay the fine.

So in effect, all Obamacare has managed to succeed at is being a coercive collector of people's money through fines.

Misapplication Of Precautionary Principle Leads School To Take Walking Cane Away From A Blind Child

"A blind girl has been banned from bringing her walking cane to school for "health and safety" reasons.

Lily-Grace Hooper, who is seven, suffered a stroke when she was just four days old, which left her virtually blind.

But her school, Hambrook Primary School, has now told the youngster she can no longer use her walking cane, because it could trip up teachers and other pupils at the school.

A risk assessment by Gary Learmonth from Sensory Support Service – done on behalf of the school – said the cane caused a high risk to other people around Lily-Grace, and that she should instead have full adult support "100 per cent" at all times."

Hambrook Primary School's head teacher, Jo Dent, said they would discuss the situation with Kristy.
She said: "The school's mobility officer raised health and safety issues around the new cane following a recent risk assessment.

"We have to consider all of our pupils, so it is important that we have an opportunity to discuss the situation before we make any decisions.

"We are very keen to resolve this issue as soon as possible and have been actively seeking to engage with the parent to bring this to an agreeable conclusion.

"The pupil has not been banned from bringing in their cane, we have simply asked them to not use it around school as a temporary measure, until we have the chance to meet with the parent and discuss the situation."
