Bernie Ecclestone is a douche.
Heck, he's even an asshole.
Let's settle for an ignorant douche asshole just for thinking like he does and having the balls to make it public.
With that out of the way, sadly his recent retarded statements about Hitler having done some good (or something to that effect) is not restricted to the Eccle-creep.
I've read similar comments on blogs and letters to the editors or heard on radio shows people assert the same type of garbage when claiming "Hussein kept Iraq under control." Somehow, claiming some good can come of something so evil is considered critical thinking. Look, it's simple people: NOTHING GOOD (for humankind) came from Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany - or Maoist China or Stalinist Russia or Franco's Spain or Castro's Cuba for that matter.
I still can't get around the fact people actually believe Mussolini made the "trains run on time."
Hitler was evil. Defending him is reprehensible on moral, intellectual and legal grounds.
Always ask yourself when you dare defend the actions of deadbeat murderous thugs: Would you live under such a regime?
>Look, it's simple people: NOTHING GOOD (for humankind) came from Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany
ReplyDeleteI can agree about Nazi Germany, and mostly about Fascism. But let's not forget that without Mussolini Italy would have become communist and belonged to the communist group of countries, with even more woes for us than losing WW2.
As you say, I am a 'leftist', so fascism is millions miles away from me, and yet things are complex in my view.
I knew I could run into some trouble with the "never" thing. And I'm quite aware that Fascist Italy is a different case entirely from Nazi Germany.
ReplyDeleteI look at it, remember, from a civil liberties point of view.
It's true, for example and ironically, Russia was a major player in helping defeat the Axis. It's also true what you said about thwarting communism.
However, by that logic then, you should have no problems with the Americans playing realpolitik in Latin and South America during the Cold War.
You would know better than me what is/are the lasting positive outcome of Mussolini (if any). I doubt he left something behind like Napoleon did for France.
I am not a man of the 'never' thing, or black and white. Our mental schemes do not correspond to reality, which is complicated. As you said, Russia helped defeat the Axis etc., Hitler was for a while allied to Stalin ... and Mussolini? He left a good memory in many people, altho he did tremendous mistakes.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to forget this moving and spontaneous graffiti which appeared on the walls of Rome soon after his death, which says it all:
ARIDATECE ER PUZZONE NOSTRO
Which could be translated:
Give us back our 'puzzone'
(Can't translate that, maybe you can)
Basically:
"Give us him back: yes, he had faults, he proved wrong in many things, he was bad and stinking, but we loved him)
He also left a good architecture. But the list of woes he caused is endless, I won't deny that. I am totally anti-fascist.
PS
And yes, I understand America's realpolitik with South American dictators.
This all confirms the saying:"Politics make for strange bedfellows".
ReplyDeleteWith respect to strange bedfellows, I'm uneasy sleeping with Righties on this Honduras question. But that's where I find myself.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back Viggy. Hey, nothing wrong with that. The righties make a strong case on this one.
ReplyDeleteDodgers on top of not just the NL but MLB! I'm glad they stuck with the kids.
Glad the stuck with Manny, too!
ReplyDeleteNo kidding but I'm surprised to hear that from you. What, with him being a cheat and poison in the clubhouse and all.
ReplyDeleteManny did the crime and did the time. Where's the poison?
ReplyDeleteThat he did.
ReplyDeleteGood point.
