Happy Canada Day

  2. Well, if you think I was going to post something like "are we the best country in the world" better to go short.

We're not the best and leave it at that the way I see it. To ask such questions is to ignore facts proving otherwise and showcase our parochialism.

I've posted interesting stats showing that many countries think they're "the best." 85% of Americans wouldn't live anywhere else and quite frankly I don't blame them. If Americans say this we think they're arrogant.

Sometimes I wonder if we're arrogant.

    Bah.

Canada is a great place in many ways, pathetic in others. Leave it at that. There's much work to be done.

  4. Everybody loves his country but everybody also adores criticising his country. A good example are the French. Well known chauvinists - among the worst ever - when I was there for 8 months I heard them criticizing France ALL THE TIME.

You, dear Commentator, seem no exception to the rule, with a peculiarity: you are in love with the USA, whom you see as a model in almost everything, and you are obsessed by Obama, who seems to have shattered this dream of yours.

Oddly enough, that the majority of the people around the world who had a similar dream see it bettered, not shattered, by Obama, doesn’t kick off any reflection of yours.

    PS
Only a boutade. Not really believeing in what I'm writing.

Visto che mi hai chiamato ‘leftist’, devo in qualche modo svolgere il mio ruolo, no?

  5. PS
That the 85% of Americans wouldn't live anywhere else doesn't seem up to 'the dream'. Did they really have a look at the magnificent world out there?

  6. MoR don't forget that the US of A is a nation of immigrants, so why would they want to go back where they came from or their parents did?

  7. That's sure a good point Costo.

Well, not necessarily where their ancestors came from: the world is so big.
