Elizabeth May needs to read the fine print better. She claimed on a Montreal morning show on CJAD 800 that "Sweden is phasing out nuclear power." She got part of it right, Sweden did have a phase-out policy but it has since been reversed since February of this year. All she (Ms. May is against nuclear energy) had to do is go to Wikipedia. Actually, all you had to do is type "Sweden gets off" or "rethinks nuclear power" and you get all sorts of information.
Nice try, Liz.
I'm still trying to figure out if the "madness of crowds" principle applies with environmentalism. It exists in the stock markets so why not here? If we rush policies without thinking and learning without fear, it may very well prove costly. Of course, the third world will end up having to pay for our actions. They always do.
And can we stop obsessively citing Scandinavia for all things?
Why should we care what Sweden did or didn't do regarding nuclear energy? Is that supposed to be an argument? Who is this woman?
ReplyDeleteThere is no good reason we shouldn't be building new nuclear plants, and we would, except for the anti-nuclear hysteria brought to us from the same loons who also hate coal, oil, etc.
She's the leader of the Green party.
ReplyDeleteWell, here in Quebec there's an obsession with Scandinavia. It's annoying. The assumption is they have it "right" on everything. Which is wrong headed if you ask me.
Quebec nationalists once said they wanted their free independent state to be modeled along the lines of a Scandinavian welfare state. Of course, with Canadian equalization payments since we can't afford a lavish welfare state.
She's the leader of the Green party. That explains a lot.
ReplyDeleteJust saw this over at LewRockwell.com Out With Windmills – In With Nuclear.
Thanks for that. I wouldn't be surprised if she was closer to the truth.
