Link Of Interest: A Primitive Take On War

I really don't know how I land on these sites but I do. Primitivism.com posted an article titled "War by Assassination" which while interesting left me slightly perplexed.

Isn't most of what the author is proposing already in place? Aren't the Americans already shifting their military to fight "borderless" wars in which they target the political leadership of an enemy?

On his thoughts about a "bounty system" and the employment of private armies, again isn't this in place?

He writes:

"Private mercenary groups that would implement specific assassination policies can be funded as necessary by speculators."

Didn't Machiavelli single out mercenaries as self-serving and therefore disloyal to Italy? What would be the rules and conditions to ensure a different fate for the Americans?

War has been with us ever since Cain assassinated Abel. We will not get rid of it while there are living things on Earth. So I would rather have trained professionals with some sense of ethics to wage it than greedy adventurous mercenaries out strictly for the money...and the thrill.

  2. I agree. That's why I brought up good ole Nico. Italian city-states warfare was filled with mercenaries and according to him posed problems for Italy including stunting any aspiration for unification. They simply can't be trusted.
