This is a symbol of protecting all that is good in the Olympic ideal. Are protestors losing credibility? They seem to be all too ready to use violence to attain their objectives. China and its political relation to Tibet is the issue. Not the Olympics and the people carrying a recognized international symbol of peace.
Hey Commentator, decided to visit your site. You have a great site by the way. No need to rebutt your post on Matt's site - we agree more than we disagree. I have lived in Scotland for a while where real men wear skirts and carry their women under their arms - I am a bit tainted by the experience. Actually the torch is due in my city in the next week or so too, so will be out to have a look at what happens. That poor child's expression - I am unsure what is achieved. The Tibet issue has been an issue for eons yet now people want to demonstrate and achieve what exactly?
ReplyDeleteThe determination to protect the torch was something else.
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by.
That's sad to see :( hope the girl is fine and has no trauma whatsoever. Imagine how proud she was when she was selected to bring the olympic torch
ReplyDeleteAs I remember all wars and disagreements were put on hold for the duration of the original Olympics. Now the games are simply another vehicle, and an expensive one, through which political aggressors can enact their rage against each other. A really valuable opportunity, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteIt's looking that way.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, Ancient Greece would suspend wars to allow for the games to take place.
Try and pull that off today.
