Rutgers: Excercise Their Right To Be Derp

Yes.

Obama doesn't circumnavigate the law. Rice oversaw waterboarding, Obama kills with drones.

Yet, I'm pretty sure Rutgers wouldn't shy away from handing over a useless piece of paper to the latter.

/slaps 'L'  to forehead.

"Condoleezza Rice ... played a prominent role in (the Bush) administration’s effort to mislead the American people about the presence of weapons of mass destruction," according to the resolution. And she "at the very least condoned the Bush administration’s policy of ‘enhanced interrogation techniques’ such as waterboarding," it said.
"A Commencement speaker... should embody moral authority and exemplary citizenship," it continued, and "an honorary Doctor of Laws degree should not honor someone who participated in a political effort to circumvent the law."

These people are incorrigible in their acts of partisan sodomy. The same school that closed its eyes to that crazy basketball coach until video appeared.

What leaders.

Leaders in faux-outrage and morality.

Venice Looks To Leave Italy

The people will take their voices mostly to a symbolic referendum.

Anyway.

I'm tempted to compare Venice's situation with Quebec.

I don't profess to know the intricacies of the Venetian, nay Northern Italian, situation (other than what I read and the odd conversation I've had with my Italian friends and relatives) I understand the frustration they feel but there are, I think, differences between all sovereignty movements.

First off, it's less a desire from Venice proper as it is the Veneto region and by extension Northern Italian angling for detachment from Rome (through political parties like the Lombard League). Venice only has a population of 38 000. It's a city that's sinking and is no longer a maritime empire or power. It can't sustain itself. In this way, we come to the first difference with Quebec. Where Venice is not necessarily a driver of the Veneto or Northern region, Montreal by contrast is the engine that powers Quebec - and it want's little to do with separation save for some parts of the city mostly in the east end.

Another difference is the North claims to put into into the coffers of Rome (including the wretch of the mafia - though its reach goes far beyond Italy itself some argue. Thus, creating an independent issue altogether) than it gets back. With Quebec, it's the opposite. It's considered a have-not province whereby it takes in more than it gives.

Venice and Northern Italy operate, from what I can tell, despite massive regional and fragmented differences that never quite jelled into a unified Italian state as one may have hoped, in a more centralized political structure than Canada. Quebec has more autonomy than Venice does as it operates within a highly decentralized Federal state. Ironically, Canada does leave Quebec alone for the most part.

Canada, at least ostensibly, is a more stable country which also contributes to considering whether separation is worth it. Economically and politically, there's no question Quebec benefits.

Which brings me to the point of the European Union and United States - the two great hegemonic entities in the West. There's always been a certain under current and displeasure with the EU's technocratic rule which sits on top of a centralized Italian state that's has lost some of its power to Brussels. Many of my conversations with local Europeans has been to the effect of "What does Brussels know about Provence, or Calabria or whatever region?" This is followed by the concern of loss of local customs, culture and language.

Again, I argue, it's different for Quebec. The elephants in the room for Quebec is English-speaking Canada and the United States. But there's a difference. We're not a unified block. Which is why it's bizarre Quebec nationalists look to "copy" a EU style association. This would be actually bad for Quebec whereas in the current construct, Quebec is allowed and able to govern itself within a united Canada that has for the most part come to accept Quebec's unique situation. Canada, in other words, serves as a buffer against U.S. cultural, economic and political might.

Which is all semantics anyway because we're already a branch-plant society. Our talk is just fluff. In the end, we're just a protectorate of the American empire. A much more glorified Puerto Rico in some sense. Alas, this is neither here or there.

Venice too is a unique city with a unique history and demographic, however, its decline took place well before unification. Quebec's success mostly came first under British rule and then Canadian.

My impression is these regions are not being logical. They want to secede in order to recreate new associations. Why not just renegotiate those terms they disagree upon? In the end, they will end up tying themselves into new alignments that will problem create new problems than it solves. We're too entrenched into one another to split up. Yet, part of me thinks, as Western civilization continues to fracture, this may be the inevitable outcome. I'm just thinking out loud here.

We may see a reorganization of boundaries where values - not culture which is nonsensical to me - are the main concern. For example, California has recently discussed dividing the state into six regions. The main reason for it - and really, any similar movement - is to rid itself not of the state but of the welfare state. In other words, these are libertarian movement looking to put power back in the individual.

When the EPA goes into a person's private property and threatens it, through coercion and fines (to the tune of $75 000 per day in some cases), even though the property owner received proper documentation from his home state, you know you have a runaway Federal government crushing the freedoms of people. Never mind about the increasingly more radical IRS and SCOTUS rarely siding with the people. Or the DEA breaking down doors and killing innocent people based on faulty information. Or NSA keeping a catalog of private message that only furthers the coming dystopia.

Again, while Canada is further along the line on the socialist scale, where individual rights are secondary to the collective, Quebec doesn't have secret RCMP agents breaking down its doors. Or face a petty political crackdown from Revenue Canada or have to worry about a War on Drugs or CSIS which is way too immature a secret agent service to begin with.

I digress.

Maybe not.

The next great wave of independence won't be defined in the classic nation-state construct.

It will be of the individual reasserting its rights in the face of a tyrannical government.

Ontario Has Double Debt Of California

Read here.

Quebec, meanwhile, has more civil servants than California.

California has a population of about 37 million.

Bigger than Canada.

Food for thought.

No More NFL In Canada Talk

A couple of weeks back the NFL announced that Toronto won't be hosting an NFL game in 2014.

I haven't delved into the why's of the this decision but methinks in guessing fashion the attendance wasn't all that great.

It never sold out and the NFL doesn't do 'no sell-outs.' Arizona notwithstanding.

If the exercise was too test the waters for an international expansion, Toronto failed the test.

Hopefully, wannabe Canadians just stick to supporting the CFL.

Early Election Impressions

The PQ and CAQ have bigger signs than the Liberals.

Bad omen?

EPA: Evil Protection Agency

The story of Andy Johnson.

Fight the good fight, Andy.

By all accounts, this sounds like a state issue. The EPA seems to be over reaching.

Big Government Psychopaths

Ga'head.

Try and tell me how big government gives dignity to the people.

Fucking psychos.

First example you pansies vote for nannies:

Are you a mother in RhodeIsland and want your grown children to get health insurance?Luckily for you, the Rhode Island state government launched aFacebook ad campaign today warning 23-33 year-olds that if theydon’t get health coverage through the Rhode Island exchange(HealthSourceRI) their moms could find them on OkCupid,Tinder, or Snapchat and urge them to get covered.

****

What does a $5 million grant get you?

Thus proving once again if your idea runs with the bull shit government trend you get cash.

This post was supposed to link to a Thinkprogress a vomit-inducing, scrotum licking article, decorated with Melitha Perry-Harrith commie outtakes,  about Obama being a father to his family and America by extension.

It made the horrible, mistake of saying "all Presidents" were fathers and then went on to talk about how Obama is different. I think, off the top of my head, Taft and Buchanan did not have offspring.

Hey, they're progressives. Facts just get in the way of their narratives, right?

It really was sickening.

And they say Thinkprogress is a bastion of liberal, progressive thought.

Which is another way of saying childish drivel.

But, when I went to get the link, it was no longer there.

Wonder why.

NOTE. Updated March 20.

It's back up.

Enjoy.

Evil

Evil comes in many faces, shapes, and sizes. We all know about menacing ghosts and badly disfigured clowns but there's another form of evil.

The one where intellectuals in academia call for censorship and as one Lawrence Torcello argues "criminalize dissent."

Imagine a student in that asshole's class.

Let's call these people for what they are.

Evil.

Egotistical, lying, evil sacks of shits.

Am I the only one who doesn't see the fucking twisted idiocy of what they advocate? Are you people who support this nonsense and assholes like Torcello (who is not even a fucking scientist and but a philosopher) that pathetic to not see this is how the Dark Ages - a period the left (ironically) derides - functioned?

Ironically, the good assistant professor pimped out his idea on a publications called...The Conversation.

Nothing says open and free dialogue like attempting to criminalize it.

I'm not here to argue about whether global warming is man made or not, I'm here to defend FREE SPEECH. In this way, Torcello can go fuck himself.

I seriously have to bail on the human race and go off into the wilderness because we're losing our minds if this is the sort of stuff that passes as "intellectualism" now.

Welcome to progressive thinking. If you disagree, we will punish you.

Evil motherfuckers.

"If free speech leads to global catastrophe, then it's worth it to limit free speech.
The denier propaganda industry is a clear and present danger to global human security because it gets in the way of necessary policy action.
All this is true.

Of course I don't believe in jailing people for speech. But let's not destroy the world too, shall we?"

Like I said.

Evil.

***

What I don't get is the forum is beating itself up on what's "consensus" and what is "misinformation." A few argue all the bad info comes from the denier side. Yet, haven't the IPCC 'consensus' report been questioned to say nothing of the scandal and deceit that came out of East Anglia?

More disturbingly, it went off talking about climate change without regard to what the professor was advocating: Criminalizing speech.

UK Gay Couple Take Church To Court

And so it begins.

I hope they lose.

Not for being gay. Nothing wrong with that.

Just for not having the decency to move on with their lives.

The Church is a Church. Government shouldn't get in the way of a Church's stance on anything.

Religious institutions have a right to serve and reflect what their parishioners believe.

Under no circumstance should the sanctity of this relationship be broken.

It's the same crap about forcing bakers to bake you a cake. God dammit, move on to the next one. Gays who do this don't impress me one iota.

Everyone is free to move on.

The headline deemed it important to point out they were millionaires.

Not sure how that's relevant.

An Inept, Rudderless Administration

The Obama's foreign policy is an incoherent mess. Marked by the misapplication of power, misreading of opponents intents, indecisiveness, contradictions and possibly lies. His caution was taken to be a sign of his intellectual prowess but as noted early in his reign, the emperor never had any clothes. He never laid out with any details his vision for the United States.

And when he does attempt to look strong, his strategy is nothing but the extension of Bush policies made worse by the fact he actually armed an enemy in Syria the United States is at war with. His removal of Morsi has unleashed a myriad of unintended consequences and he's simply not up to the task to deal with. Ditto for his vanity project in Libya. A stupid intervention that arguably led to the storming of the embassy in Benghazi resulting in four dead Americans.

In fact, this can be applied to his divisive domestic policies and stale progressive rhetoric predicated on class warfare and wealth distribution (brought to its heights through Obamacare currently in a state of chaos as anger towards its content continues to grow).

Barack Obama's 'reset button' is dysfunctional. He's stalled and no one can figure out how to restart it. Who among any of Clinton, Biden, Kerry, Reid, Pelosi, Hagel and who ever else you may add can offer anything of any substance? One after another they've made public comments that should bring much embarrassment to any intelligent American.

They seem much more preoccupied with Fox News, Limbaugh, bad Nazi analogies, calling Americans liars, blaming GOP obstructionism, damaging racial commentary (just to name a few) to be charged with controlling a mighty nation. In other words, the party said to understand the 'big picture' behave in myopic fashion.

Equally as damaging to the United States is his progressive economic policy. The President is coming off more and more meek and more and more superficial as his sophomoric administration continues to campaign as though inhabited by rank amateurs.

This is not a Republican problem. There is no 'mess to clean up from Bush.' There's nothing and no one to blame.

All these problems are uniquely of his own doing.

Obama just realized that because you're an American president doesn't mean the world will listen to your twirly, sophistry. It doesn't care you know how to play 'cool.'

You need to be able to project the perception of power.

Judging by international headlines, they're not seeing the power point presentation all that well.

****

But don't take it from me. Try what, say, the Italians are saying.

How do you say 'ouch' in Italian?

Article about how Obama is losing the 'New' Cold War.

Or how about Russia?

We're all racists now.

Anyway. As bad as Obama is, I'll side with him over Putin,

Fuck Russia and that article. The commenters; especially that Canadian a-hole who married a Russian. Fuck all those people.

Russia is acting like a thug using crappy Soviet rhetoric. We will protect Russians in other lands...Jesus Christ.

Libertarianism With Canadian Flavor

Libertarian candidate Tim Moen runs in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

Comment:

"You can't have welfare programs and still have respect for freedom. Freedom means not having to pay for someone else's poor choices. Forcing people to work to make profit you against their wills was, is, and always will be called slavery. You may be fine with slavery and theft that benefits you and your kind (parasites), but moral people are not."

I hope candidates will turn up around these parts. As for Fort McMurray, it's a key battleground for libertarianism in North America as it sits in the heart of the oil sands debate.

Language Zealots Dishonor French

Know what I think?

I think the Parti Quebecois and the entire language obsessed intellectual class in Quebec don't deserve a beautiful language like French.

In my view, their actions dishonor the language.

They only way to protect the language, it seems, is to suppress another according to these people.

That to me does a disservice to French.

Man Who Defended Himself With Legal Firearm May Still Face Charges

Not dead enough.

Right. Let's see. Man gets accosted. Man beaten by three assailants with baseball bat. Man defends and shoots them killing two.

But he's the one who will face charges?

Hm.

Day Of St. Patrick

"Top of the morning to ye on this gray, grizzly afternoon. Kent O'Brockman live on Main Street, where today everyone is a little bit Irish, except, of course, for the gays and the Italians!"

I've been to one St. Patrick's Day party in my life. And that was to join some colleagues after work years ago. No different than any other drinking day - except it's more green and shit.

The EPA: Another Evil Entity

NASA Should Stick To Space

Why is NASA commenting on economics?

All work and no funding make Nasa a dull boy or something?

Anyway.

Spot the nonsense.

Money is not wealth and vice-versa.

As for collapse and scarcity, yeah, that kinda went away through agricultural technological advancements and global trade.

Have you seen the Vikings invade lately?

Heroes!

Where's my burger, punk?

Hey, thugs get hungry, no? And thugs, as we know, eat lavishly - like wanting a White Castle burger since the streets of Brooklyn are mighty dangerous enough to work up an appetite.

And then nothing happened.

PQ: Party Of Xenophobes

I described the Quebec Charter as the 'Know your place' Charter.

It's an easy description to make knowing the source of whence it comes from.

Bob Rae offers his thoughts about Quebec. I'm no supporter of Rae's socialist bent but he reminds readers  of the PQ's ethnic nationalist mean streak - though not this reader who knows this all too well.

If you were to give a PQ biography to an outsider they'd immediately connect the party to whatever tribal party in their own country.

Rae describes when Peladeau senior once said 'the Jews take up space.' Which is pretty much in line with Quebecois xenophobia. Quebec has always distrusted the Jews. Which probably explains why Arabs are an ethnic minority that gravitates more than any other to that party. Still, I have no idea how any ethnicity would join a party that in its heart, doesn't consider anyone outside their small definition of what constitutes 'Quebecois.' The so-called 'pure-laine.' Which of course, as is the case with all entities that defines itself along ethnic lines is largely rooted in myths and deception.

These days, Quebec hasn't abandoned its racism. It has double-downed. It now has a problem with other ethnics. I don't really care what they say, but their language obsession is a form of racism. Sure, whatever you say, harassing restaurants for words like 'Trattoria' and 'Pasta' is not racist. Whatever you say you degenerates.

Recall the drunken Jacques Parizeau's retarded statement of claiming Quebec lost the 1995 referendum because of 'money and the ethnic vote.' As a neighbor said to me at the time, 'it's true but he shouldn't have said it.' Right. Keep your racism hidden so I can't see it. That's how fucking stupid they are. They believe they're being honest. Sorta like how the KKK believes blacks needed to know their place.

Bernar 'Bernie' Landry (seriously, get that guy a Bernie from Sesame Street sweater) goes around town demanding people speak to him, as if he's some damn Duke, in French should they have the gall to say hello to him in English. Hockey commentator and former NHL coach, Michel Bergeron declared on a hockey show that Dave Tallon wasn't really a Quebecer which is right in line with Pierre-Karl Peladeau's assertion that the Molson's weren't really Quebecers. Never mind that film maker Felardeau (I forget his first name) once called Canada 'a nation of assholes' on another primetime Quebec tv sports show.

And these are just some of the comments we've heard over the years. I don't include those personally hurled towards me. There have been many more but they escape memory. It doesn't take much digging since some of it has been logged while all one needs to do is ask any person of non-Francophone stock what xenophobic slurs they've heard these buffoons utter in the past.

Don't be fooled by the PQ's bambi-like arguments about only wanting to defend themselves. It would be acceptable if they wouldn't be so damn punitive in their measures. But it's not because all they do is use the law to attack and state-sanction discrimination. Theirs is a foul and twisted vision of what constitutes a free and civil society.

One I want no part of.

Quote Of The Night

"Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau is "apparently, and I say that in respect, very superficial."

Not that I necessarily disagree, but this coming from Bernie Landry a 'parle moi en francais' pequiste.

/rolls eyes.

Sure, Bernie. Whatever you say.

The Life Of A Gourmet Socialist

French style:

"The last socialist leader of France was Francois Mitterand. He died due to prostate cancer in the new year of 1996. Knowing he was nearing the end of his life, the President elected to indulge himself in a gourmand's last meal.

Each to his own but the contents of that meal and the location perhaps tell us a little more about the man himself rather than the politics he pertained to espouse. His meal was taken in the remote hamlet of Latche in Bordeaux.

The meal was arranged by Henri Emmanuelli - the very politician who today speaks out in defence of one of the most cruel practices to take place in France. Mitterand began his last meal with 30 Marennes oysters, foie gras and capons washed down with Sauternes and local red wine. I needn't remind you of the natural history of foie gras.

He then moved on to the piece de resistance. He then moved on to the ortolans. It is not illegal to eat one but it is illegal to catch or trap one. Each ortolan (bunting) weighs less than an ounce (28g). When caught it is locked in a darkened room (memories of veal) and fed with millet until fit to burst (memories of geese). The stuffed bird is then drowned in armagnac and roasted for 8 minutes. It is then often eaten whole. It would be very difficult to concoct a more barbaric preparation of any food anywhere in the world.

In accordance with French custom, Mitterand hid his head under his napkin after eating each bird. I assume the head is hidden in shame but the French tradition claims that the head is hidden to hide their greed from God."

Sunday Night Music

Wake Up And Lead Mr. Harper

You silence in the face of Pauline's ridiculous proclamations is unacceptable. If you need 'advice' about Quebec then you weren't fit to lead this country as you had a weak sense of national unity to begin with.

When do you plan to speak out? When it's too late like the Liberals under Chretien did? How did that gutless strategy work out? We escaped by the skin of our beaver tails.

It's not that hard to be a leader.

I don't get it.

Why do we seem to be stuck with jelly fish in North America when it comes to real, hard core leadership? Lord knows you won't get much from the Liberal party of Canada and the NDP's idiotic, treacherous acceptance of the 50+1 only points to the fact they will not defend Canada. It's astounding this party forms the Official Opposition.

I never expected much from those two political entities.

But I do expect and demand something from the Conservative Party of Canada.

Who will stand up for Canada?

It's simple, Mr. Harper.

Whenever you hear that twit flap her lips you counter. It doesn't need to be a punch. A jab will suffice as any boxing aficionado will tell you.

"Mme. Marois is under the impression Canada will conduct business as usual once Quebec unilaterally decides to separate. It is the position of the government of Canada that the voice of the Canadian people, through difficult negotiations, will be heard in the aftermath of such an emotional and unfortunate decision. There are no guarantees as we will be navigating through uncharted waters. We will be monitoring the situation moving forward and will comment if circumstances command we do so. Thank you. God Bless The Guess Who."

See how easy that is?

You've just gave the Quebec electorate something to think about.

It wasn't aggressive nor was it insulting. It's a fact. We don't know. That's what a fucking leader does.

Of course the PQ will howl like the jackals they are. It's what they do. Let them. It's all bluster anyway. If the Quebec population is foolish enough to vote against Canada because it feels 'insulted' then Quebec has bigger problems to deal with. Such a mentality is problematic and internal and has little to do with Canada. They need to lie down on a couch somewhere.

Honestly, I don't give a shit about the PQ. I care about my life and family and the nation of Canada.

Will you speak on our behalf, Mr. Harper?

California: Where Unions Are Evil

Slowly but surely, the individual will prevail and the union thug will be no more.

Quebec needs to be purged of this cancer.

Exposing The PQ And Its Unilateral Gibberish About Independence

The Parti Quebecois are deceivers. A party that would nicely in the Malebolge.

On their senseless and petulant path to nowhere, they play with our savings; our future...our lives.

They do so with a puzzling mix of political candidates from Pierre-Karl Peladeau to the leaders of the student protests. The same student movement that received a nice dildo up the ass courtesy of the PQ when it got elected.

What a mix for Quebec's future! Yeah, let's hitch that ride to independence to them. Free shit for all!

Yeesh.

Anyway.

Everything Marois says about the economy and what would happen after the declaration of independence is a ruse. Each time she steps up to a microphone and delivers one of her soliloquy's she reminds me more and more of Travis Bickle given she's basically talking to a mirror.

It's deceptive theater because she damn well knows she has no idea how Canada will react. To presume to do so and go public with it is an outrageous example of her petty irresponsibility; of her and her party's outright disregard for truth. She also knows the majority of Quebecers don't want to leave Canada (which is why the PQ became infamous for their deliberately and pathetic confusing referendum question that gave birth to the Clarity Act. Next time, act like adults and treat citizens like adults and Ottawa won't feel compelled to spank us).

So it's a good tactic to obfuscate.

The arrogance of assuming the rest of Canada will play ball with Quebec's demands is asinine as it is retarded.

There are no guarantees.  That's a basic axiom of life. And more so in politics where all of man's most notorious vices reside. Promises and alliances are broken all the time.

No one knows what will happen but if I were to guess it would go along the lines of something like this:

Finally rid of Quebec, the rest of Canada will be free to act as it sees fit to serve their own interests. Not only Quebec has a 'will' after all.

Quebec nationalists like to presume what Canada will do using rational-speak (which is empty jargon in reality) but they be wrong for they conduct diplomacy through their own jealous prisms. One of the key ways to know if you possess diplomatic skills is to be able to know what your opponents want and delivering a deal that pleases both sides. So far, the PQ aren't displaying a knack for the art of diplomacy.

Instead, we get unilateral declarations of 'there will be no borders.'

What does that mean? How does she know? What if Ontario gets up one morning in a foul mood still peeved that Lake Ontario is the smallest of the Great Lakes and decides to put in a border...with tolls!

We don't know.

Canada will likely, naturally, feel scorned and will be in no mood to negotiate. Quebec's position is 'well, they don't want to face turmoil so they will have to talk to us.' Once again, displaying a narcissistic take on things. In their minds, they break shit up but it's the others that will pick up the pieces.

It's possible Canada will not hand over the national currency built over centuries commanding international trust and American acceptance to a bunch of renegade reprobates. Yes, it's possible to enter a monetary union or even create a Quebec dollar but what will be the costs? And how long will the population be willing to sustain that cost until Quebec stabilizes - if at all? How do we know Canada won't conduct its own series of referendums on what to do about Quebec?

Alberta's prominence within a Canadian federation will increase. Suddenly the power structure will tip even further towards the Pacific. It will definitely agitate to not negotiate with Quebec. British Columbia and the Prairie provinces will fall in line with Alberta.

This leaves Ontario - the nation's most powerful entity. Bordering Quebec, Ontario will also have to consider the fate of the Atlantic provinces. Each of these provinces will balance geographical realism and how it relates to Quebec as well as its desired allegiance to Canada. I believe the will of these Canadians will be such that it remains loyal to Canada thus ultimately leaving Quebec alone.

Not only that, the Atlantic provinces, as been murmured in the past, can always ask for annexation to the New England states.

In a sea of "30 million anglos.' With one major difference. Those '30 million anglos' who helped form Canada thus preserving Canadian leverage against American hegemony will be lost.  The fear of being swallowed by '300 million English speaking peoples' suddenly becomes, well, real.

All this to say, if anything, Canada will likely be in a better position to dictate the terms.

If you think this is not complicated enough wait until what can happen inside Quebec.

If Canada is divisible, then so can, the thinking goes, Quebec. If Quebec thinks it to be legitimate to break up Canada - a nation they willingly entered, then the sanctity of Quebec's borders are even more in dispute. Enter the Natives - Mohawks and Cree in particular - who have made clear under no certain terms would they go along with a separate Quebec.

Neither will Montreal.

There will be push back and unless Quebec uses coercion and force (certainly not the Canadian military or the RCMP, leaving the Surete du Quebec to handle this? I don't think the Natives are too worried about the SQ who aren't even trained for such events) to suppress unrest, I'm not entirely sure how it will deal with it.

Any currency of good will is already long spent. The Parti Quebecois are not a respected entity among non-Francophones. Would they even be recognized? If they came to our table there's little chance we'd trust them. They've never exhibited any respect for our side, so why should we listen?

The legalities of this will be fiercely argued I'm sure, but people who vote for the PQ should take into account nothing should be taken for granted. Never assume because your actions will piss people off. And lemme tell ya, Marois and her sockpuppet Lisee are pushing all the wrong buttons.

All a pity really.

Quebec has carved itself a nice, unique way of life. We all know it's a different place. But it is not distinct enough to demand a nation. They are different within this nation of Canada. It's different meant in the most respectful way. We are Canadian and the contribution of Quebec to Canada is immeasurable. It raises valid questions about many issues that face us as a nation. It is to our advantage we have a view from all sides coast to coast.

Quebec already operates in the most decentralized Federal state on the planet. It has nothing to gain to agitate anymore. It would be better served to serve its citizens on subjects and issues that matter.

We achieved this within the CANADIAN CONFEDERATION.

Alas, this is my view; a product of my own personal bias.

Nonetheless, it is predicated on the perception that considers nationalism (in all countries) as a malignant actor in the democratic process.  It dismisses the hues and cries of self-victimhood and refutes deceptive rhetoric designed to attack our tribal senses.

Oh.

And based on the fact that I think the PQ are fucking liars.

*****

From No Dogs Or Anglophones. I copy in full Castonguay's  article on a Quebec currency in La Presse (original text in French here. I love reading it in French):

Currency is an important symbol a people's identity. An independent Quebec should have its own currency, a Quebec dollar. With the prospect of a referendum, it is important to analyze the effects entailed with replacing the Canadian dollar by a Quebec dollar.

The Quebec dollar value and stability are the two main issues. The value of a currency is related to the strength of the economy, public finances and the debt of a country. But the value and stability of a currency depends on the level of trust that citizens, investors and speculators place in that currency.

Given these factors, a new Quebec dollar would inevitably have a lower value than the U.S. and Canadian dollars. Currently, the Canadian dollar is worth 90 cents against the U.S. dollar, analysts consider this difference as justified. Similarly, we can assume that the value of a new Quebec dollar would be about 85 cents against the Canadian dollar and 75 cents against the U.S. dollar.

During the changeover, Quebecers would have their savings and assets decline by around 15 %. Before such an eventuality, Quebecers would probably take all possible measures to prevent the devaluation of their savings and their assets. They would move away their assets outside of Quebec into U.S. dollars. This would add to the instability of the new currency and would lead to a further decline in its value.

In other words, should Quebec make a declaration of independence,  it would have no choice but to keep the Canadian dollar. This is what the Parti Québécois recognized  on the eve of the 1995 referendum . The use of the Canadian dollar would normally require the conclusion of a monetary union between the newly independent Quebec and Canada, divided by the departure of Quebec. The conclusion of such an agreement would be highly problematic.

We would see this in Britain if the Scots vote in September for their independence. The British Chancellor of the Exchequer warned them they could not  keep the pound, the British public would not accept it. It is clear that the Canadian Prime Minister would be in the same situation in the event of a vote for Quebec independence.

Quebec would thus have no choice but to continue to use the Canadian dollar , however, without the benefit of the protection of a monetary union. That is to say that monetary policy would be established by the Bank of Canada strictly according to the situation in the rest of Canada.

Twenty years ago, Argentina had embarked on this path. It allowed its citizens to exchange, according to a predetermined exchange rate  their pesos against the U.S. dollar . Argentines rushed to exchange their pesos for U.S. dollars and move it out of the country, which led to the fall in the value of the peso and a real crisis.

We conclude that in the event of Quebec independence, it would be necessary to negotiate in a hostile environment, an agreement to eventually return to the bosom of the Bank of Canada under conditions less favorable than those currently prevailing.

In the current electoral context, some issues may possibly be carried forward to an eventual White Paper on sovereignty. This is not the case for the currency issue. Voters are entitled to know, before exercising their voting intentions what the Parti Québécois' currency policy will be in an independent Quebec.
But apparently Pauline has other ideas.
"A sovereign Quebec would use the Canadian dollar and request a seat on the Bank of Canada’s decision-making body, Parti Québécois Leader Pauline Marois said Wednesday on the campaign trail.
The PQ Leader pointed to several studies on the matter conducted in the early 1990s which showed that there would be no obstacles for an independent Quebec to using the Canadian dollar. However, getting a seat on the Bank of Canada’s Governing Council would be more difficult.

“Obviously we may wish to get a seat at the Bank of Canada but we would accept the Canadian monetary policies,” Ms. Marois said.
Liberal Leader Philippe Couillard said Ms. Marois is living in a dream world.
“The PQ always tries to take us to an imaginary world, Alice in Wonderland, where everything is going to be so great. No borders, no passport, it’s fantastic. Everybody’s going to be great friends,” said Mr. Couillard. Link

Head Scratching Furious Over Obamacare Low Sign Ups

Are the Democrats for real? They pass a law that compels people to buy insurance. When it turns out people can't afford the premiums because they're out of work, they wonder why sign ups are low?

Not even Head & Shoulders has a product for the dandruff this has produced.

Progressives Misread The Constitution

Some guy in America.

I think she gets this spot on. The backward projection applied by such people is astoundingly stupid and illogical. They break the one of the most important laws of history: Don't project contemporary thoughts onto the past.

They fail, in my view, to contextualize. No, I don't consider "those were different, more simpler times" as contextualizing. It's vapid nonsense. I don't know about you folks reading this article, but I don't see a whole lot of difference between how politics - including power politics in international affairs - worked then as it does now. There's a thin, long linear common thread linking all epochs and eras on such matters. There are, surely, differences that mark a particular moment of course, but the over arching arc is the same in any age.

For example, it's irrelevant how weapons would evolve over time. That they couldn't conceive of a bazooka doesn't negate the theory of the right to bear arms. There's a certain arrogance in this position. Here's why. It implies there was no advancement in science and technology. In order for this line of logic to function, it has to presume that the evolution of weapons technology is not relative but static. Which, when one ponders it, makes sense given the static thinking of such assertions.

By the time the Founding Fathers wrote the amendments, there were sufficient examples for them to draw upon when it comes to how man can devise ruthless killing machines.

They understood. They understood very well. Better than you can imagine. This is why the amendments are brilliant in its wording. It really isn't that hard to understand the spirit of their positions. They were conservative men in a liberal age. That is, they were Enlightenment philosophers who believed in the authority of God.

As such, they fall in line with classical liberal thought. Not the contemporary progressive version that pompously seeks to reword, rework or even reinvent The Constitution in its own image.

I don't think it's helpful or proper to try and surmise along the lines of 'they never meant to' or 'they could never know' because, as the video shows, it leaves itself open to all sorts of problems.

And so it is with the 2nd amendment. The point is not about 'assault weapons' and whether anyone 'needs' one. In a similar vein, one can ask why does anyone need  big house? Or, as Obama thinks, at some point you make enough money. Why does anyone need anything I don't think they need!?

The point is, and this demands abstract thought, the the intention of the Framers wasn't to offload total security onto the state. The whole point of The Constitution was to limit government; not expand it. In this manner, it is perfectly reasonable, perhaps even moral, for a man to bear arms for how can he defend himself against one of humanity's greatest themes: Tyranny.

Modern minds may not appreciate this, seeing how we've offloaded so many of our personal liberties to the state, but tyranny comes in many forms. The Framers listened to history. They appreciated its cadence and took it for what it was.

We don't. We think we do but ours is a superficial grasp mostly hinged on creating a narrative to suit our political colors.

The Framers weren't afraid of guns.

They were afraid of man's remarkable talent of inflicting pain and imposing tyranny.

Modern progressives are too focused on a piece of metal (a finite object for a most predictable philosophy) thus subjecting them to a confiscatory disposition that only serves to erode liberties. They should shift their thought process more into the abstract (infinite) and put more faith in the liberty of man.

Moulding Boys In Another Image

Boys will be boys:

"I’ve had a couple different conversations with the teachers at my child’s preschool about some of the aggressive behaviors a few of the children have been exhibiting. It has been most alarming to wake up in the morning and have my three-year-old say to me, “I am a robot, I’m going to eat your brain and peel off your skin.” I was also concerned to learn that when a child brought in a Ninjago book, the teachers read the book to the children even though Common Sense media reports that this series is best for children 7 and over and has 0/5 educational value, 2/5 for violence and 5/5 for consumerism. When I have expressed my concerns about some of these issues, every conversation has ended the same, with the teacher saying, “Oh you know, boys will be boys.”

That statement effectively has ended the conversation because it has left me too stunned and flabbergasted to respond. I bite my tongue each time because I don’t want to be THAT parent who is viewed as oversensitive and disengaged from reality. I also want to have a productive dialogue that will allow the preschool to hear my concerns in a way that may allow them to shift their thinking about how they address these issues. This blog is my attempt to organize my thoughts and gather some relevant research in order to help other parents and teachers who may find themselves perplexed by the same situation. So why is “boys will be boys” dangerous?"

Is that all he said? Shit, you should hear my poor mother went through with her offspring.

5/5 for consumerism?

Oh....noooooo!

The word 'boy' needs to be banned.

""Boys will be boys" is a dangerous attitude because it encourages teasing- the kind of teasing I experienced in grade school, due to my premature baldness.

Four Issues Not Discussed About Quebec Independence

1) Quebec's debt running at around $260 billion. Its balance sheet is not healthy.
2) Native rights and its position. Natives will fight tooth and nail what it regards its lands.
3) The status of Montreal increasingly considering its own secessionist option - which I support.
4) Anywhere between 500 000 and 800 000 people are on welfare.

Comrade Matthews Fighting The Good Fight

Chris Matthews intellect at work:

"And why is it hard for Democrats to fight that? Well, for one thing, Democrats generally can see the complexity of our times. The polls show this. They don't think they have all the answers. They'd like to see some deal making between the parties and across the aisles.

"Two, the Democrats know that the health care program, as it's been put there, could be improved. They're thinking about it. They're watching it. The Republicans -- well, you don't really have to think much if you're just ticked off, do you? All you have to do is go to your base and go back to cutting government spending, attacking health care, hating the President and guarding your values."

The party of central planning doesn't think it has all the answers?

Oh I get it. The reason they're incapable of articulating and implementing their plans is because they're too smart and everyone is too stupid to follow them.

Got it.

Add the petulance of the opposing party and you get the perfect recipe for 'Blaming others.'

I think I saw that on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.

It calls for:

1/4 tsp of vomit (the chunkier the better. Corn optional)
1/4 tsp of Chris Matthew's cum
1 full table spoon of Bill Maher's saliva
1/2 tsp of Jon Stewart's tears
1/4 tsp of sweat (doesn't matter who it's from. If you prefer sweeter salt you can use Melissa Harris-Perry's sweat. Hard to find but you can try any store that sells affirmative action produce)
1/4 tsp of libertarian blood.

Obama is nothing but a player.

"Former congressman Bart Stupak of Michigan, who left office in 2011 after deciding not to run for reelection, penned an op-ed in USA Today on Tuesday saying that while he still supports Obamacare, he thinks Americans “should not be required to relinquish our conscience and moral convictions in order to implement the Affordable Care Act.”

“We received an ironclad commitment [from the president] that our conscience would remain free and our principles would be honored,” Stupak wrote. “I had hoped that more of my Democratic colleagues would object to the way the contraception mandate has been applied.”

Alex Jones Mad, Smash!

"George Soros is evil."

Oh, I agree. Koch has nothing on Soros.

“Alex Jones and Tucker Carlson are absolutely exposing the fact that the Democratic Party was run and founded by the Ku Klux Klan basically in the modern age and fought against the Republicans and Lincoln and has been the party of slavery and division all along and demographically couldn’t win any more, I mean that should be the headline.”

That's too good.

He mentions Howard Stern. A couple of months back Stern acted as if he never heard of Jones. I found that strange. If I've heard of him, how can Stern not have? Seems a bit of a stretch to me. Moreover, if you talk about politics you should know who the players are, including guys like Jones.

But that's me. I'm mental that way. There aren't many pundits and sites out there I haven't heard of.

I mean, I listen to Smerconish for crying out loud.

Anyway.

Back to Jones.

PQ Reiterates Insane Belief Of Keeping Canadian Currency

That nutcase Marois has reiterated the outrageous belief that if Quebec unilaterally leaves Canada, they will get to keep the Canadian dollar and apply for a seat at the Bank of Canada.

They wish to refashion along the EU model.

If Canada has any backbone - and sadly, it has been silent while Quebec rattles its rubber sword - it tells Quebec to fuck off.

How To Know If You Have No Respect For Civil Liberty

To attempt to explain how, I will use Quebec language laws as an example.

Let us take the average French-Canadian. Let us assume they're unilingual but functional in English. In fact, they would like to improve their English and can see the importance of a second language in today's global context. They recognize that French outside their provincial borders has limited use but that English is an international language. Where when two different languages meet, English is the common link. In boardrooms across the globe English is key. It's a fact and reality. Quebecers understand this.

Let us further add to their profile a moderate attitude towards immigration, religious rights and freedom of expression and choice. Standard stuff. I recognize, that in today's clouded understanding of rights, that the average person is willing to negotiate some of their rights away in exchange for some specious state initiative but this is not the purpose of this post. Moving on, they have 'nothing against' English or English-speaking people but have accepted the concern about needing to protect the French language.

Already they walk a fine line.

Enter liberty.

If they state they are for 'freedom' then, how can they accept punitive measures exacted against their neighbors? Worse still, if they by free will decide their own children would be better served in an English environment, how can they consent to the government preventing them to do so subverting their personal rights to those of the collective?

I think if the average Quebecer took a second and looked at things from the perspective of liberty as defined by the great humanists and philosophers of The Enlightenment, they'd see the erosion of liberty caused by state laws.

If they have friends of non-Francophone stock who are ostensibly equal citizens (pay taxes, play hockey with them, own properties etc.), then it doesn't equate that they should tolerate laws that discriminate. By their aloof or indifference comes state-sanctioned discrimination pitting one language group against another.

It's inconceivable to me how a Quebecer would permit the bureaucracy to prevent them from making their own decisions as they see fit. At the moment, Quebec is a slave to the unions on an economic level, and are beholden to the state for their rights.

The biggest crime the government has perpetuated on all of us as individual is stripping us of our moral agency.

Laws to protect a language onto itself are not evil. There are plenty of laws in many jurisdictions. However, none are as draconian as they are in Quebec. That is, preventing one class of citizens (French-Canadian) from choosing schools of their choice. Preventing a class of citizens (non-Francophone) from expressing themselves in their own language under the threat of fines and denial of business permits.

I defy Quebecois apologists for such outrageous infringement on civil liberties to find me ONE jurisdiction in the West that permits one group of people to levy fines against another for simply expressing themselves in English.

NAME ONE.

It's all I ask.

One.

Please allow me to save you some time.

Zero.

There are no OLF's in the West and certainly none in North America.

Now.

If you are one, despite all these affronts on liberty, that still chooses to let your collective nationalist sensibilities get in the way of whatever you have thought are "individual rights" then you have no respect for civil liberties.

None.

The problem is once you hand over your rights to the state, they control you. They begin to redefine rights in their own image. Thus, nonsense like 'health care is a right' starts to enter the lexicon. People begin, blindly, to accept this because on an emotional level, what can be more important than health? But on a rational and abstract level, health is personal. By handing over those personal rights to the state, you've in effect lost control of your own health.

Quebec's language laws - and Canada's free speech laws-  for that matter are nothing but abysmal laws that assault OUR INDIVIDUAL LIBERTY.

I can not stress this enough.

You can't on one side claim to be 'free and open' while simultaneously hand out language tickets for using words other than French. You can't be "tolerant" if you shout down an opposing view accepting one can prosecute another for their opinions (Mark Steyn is a perfect example of this as he faces the Human Rights Commission for his political views). There is no "balancing" liberty. That's a bilk of bull shit mediocre minds and pathetic fools have sold you.

By all means, if you calculate it's all acceptable (illogically) creating multiple degrees of liberty that amount to nothing but philosophical chaos and massive inequality and injustice, than so be it.

Just don't tell me you're for liberty and freedom.

If you can't see, in the abstract, the dangers of this and where it can all lead.

Then you have no respect for civil liberty.

Stand Your Ground And Roseanne Barr's Peanut Brain

Setting the facts straight about Stand your ground.

I don't know what's so hard to grasp about this law. Opponents of the law use such flawed logic I'm embarrassed for them. Worse, they seem to use the Zimmerman case as a prime example of how stand your ground works.

Peter Jamison in the Tampa Bay Times soberly lays it all out "One nation under no duty to retreat."

A Constitutional Crisis Looms In The U.S.

More from the 'right-wing meme' files:

The 59-year-old Richardson previously told a TV station that she had voted multiple times for President Barack Obama on behalf of herself and family members. She had said she had no intent to commit voter fraud.

But voter fraud that moved to benefit Obama is the least of his concerns.

That this administration is perhaps more rudderless and renegade than Nixon could ever dream of should be rather obvious to a person with a modest grasp on political reality.

Senate Intelligence Chair Diane Feinstein dropped a major allegation on Obama's laps. One that threatens to reveal more Constitutional abuses under a President who made us all aware he was a constitutional lecturer.  From David Corn at the left-wing Motherjones:

What Feinstein didn't say—but it's surely implied—is that without effective monitoring, secret government cannot be justified in a democracy. This is indeed a defining moment. It's a big deal for President Barack Obama, who, as is often noted in these situations, once upon a time taught constitutional law. Feinstein has ripped open a scab to reveal a deep wound that has been festering for decades.

Obama operates less as a constitutional expert and more as a community organizer. One in which he acts as a cynic as he unilaterally pushes forward an agenda only his mother could love.

Obama ointment was all that was supposed to be needed to heal an ailing planet.

Now I think people have readjusted the expectations downward and hope and pray for basic, competent governance.

"The widely respected Florida political analyst Adam Smith sees big problems for Democrats in the loss of Alex Sink to Republican David Jolly in the special election to fill the House seat from Florida's 13th Congressional District. "Democrats had a better-funded, well-known nominee who ran a strong campaign against a little-known, second- or third-tier Republican who ran an often wobbly race in a district Barack Obama won twice," Smith wrote Tuesday night. "Outside Republican groups — much more so than the under-funded Jolly campaign — hung the Affordable Care Act and President Obama on Sink. It worked."

The libertarian candidate won 4.8% of the vote which is a solid showing in Florida.

CNN Makes Me Cry

I don't listen to CNN (the glitzier version of the CBC) all that often but when I do, I cry.

What am I talking about?

Reporting on the building collapse in New York City, the CNN reporter said, "I gotta be honest" in describing the air clearing.

Is she implying she could be lying?

Saying 'I gotta be honest' is not what I consider to be professional journalism.

But hey. She's doing her best!

As if that wasn't enough, the story switched to the disappearance of a plane in Malaysia. Nothing like a mystery to bring out all the conspiracy theorists and conjectural experts.

The anchor, in explaining they knew nothing but still went ahead and said "here's what we kinda know."

Dafuck?

I don't want to know what you kinda know. If I want that, I can go talk to my neighbor and see what he thinks of it.

Journalists, I was told all my life, report facts. Getting facts straight is the key to objectivity.

I guess they got out of the facts business?

Wait. Anchorman Kinda Know wasn't done. He then closed, in describing what possibly kinda happened, by saying, "you know what I mean?"

Fuck. No. I don't know what you mean. I'm the viewer. But seeing you not only don't know what you're talking about, I'm gonna go ahead and guess CNN is in the business of talking out of its ass.

CNN is good at one thing and one thing only: Appealing to emotions.

Man. Everywhere I turn and look. Mediocrity.

Mediocre Presidents and leaders, mediocre services, mediocre newspeople - mediocre everything.

Be proud of our mediocrity! Everyone is trying hard!

They're not journalists. They're 'tell stories and shit people.'

I'll be in my bunk.

Crying.

******

Why does everyone feel compelled to always point out how everyone is doing their jobs 'extraordinarily?"

I expect them to do their, you know, jobs to the best of their abilities.

Obama Surgeon General Appointee

Meet Vivek.

He was appointed to be Obama's SG.

At 37, he possesses all the skills, experience and wisdom to hold such a position.

See, guns are a health issue for him.

And explains this position elegantly.

Cartoons, are the source. Jesus Christ, a grown man afraid of cartoons? Does liwwle Vivvy need a liwwle helmet before he leaves the house? Aw, looky at Vivvy all cute in his Dora helmet. Seriously, what fucking individual endowed with, let's call it a brain, wouldn't be able to see that Yosemite Sam is an animated figure?

As I read about this guy, my imagination took over. He's like one of those people we put faith in only to find out their outlook were based on hilariously bad premises.

Or the person that aces the interview process only to reveal they believe they were abducted by aliens.

America is in good hands under President Obama.

Marois Assures; I Laugh

My wife likes to see the late night news headlines before moving on to another channel. One of them had PQ head hobbit Pauline Marois jokingly calmed Canadians that there would be no 'border' in order to cross Canada with a grin you want to smack straight across the face.

Rumor had it back in the day, Quebec would have a border if they separated. Not really realistic, given I don't know how they would pay for yet another bureaucratic department I don't know. Mind you, if they want independence how could Canada not impose its own territorial borders.

Of course, in the petty, parochial, childish mind of an independistes, this is unthinkable.

Quebec has never really sat and maturely talked about the details of separation, They're so incredibly blinded, irresponsible and shady, they think they'll declare "independence" and poof! Voila! 10th - or whatever crap they think - largest economy in the world! Life goes on! Pass the poutine!

And I'm to take these bozos seriously?

I've read and heard every single argument and excuse in the separatist handbook. So pathetically unsophisticated their positions, it's akin to a child in daycare.

Anyway. Since we can't stand her or her minions much, what being a bunch of regressive second-rate yokels,  we changed the channel. But in those 10 seconds or so, the stench of their smug, misplaced arrogance is palpable.

It's interesting to note the majority of PQ candidates, like 99% of them, have always been so-called 'pure-laine' people of French-Canadian stock. Some may have Irish-Scot lineage somewhere down the line, and there have been the occasional Haitian (poor suckers) and Arab candidates. There have been Italians as well but they represent such a tiny minority they may as well be grouped in the 'fucking morons' category. Catelli Italians if you prefer. (For you Yanks, Catelli is a Canadian pasta maker).

Have you ever seen the great communities that grace our province sing the praises of the PQ? It's almost unthinkable those who hail from the Jewish, Chinese, Irish, Polish, Greek, Portuguese, Hungarian, Native and of course Italian communities would ever join them. That says a lot about where the PQ stands among us.

The only community that seems to gravitate to the PQ, and I reckon this will continue, is Arab. Maybe they like the fairy tale aspect of Quebecois self-victimhood. Bope.

I personally can't understand how for the life of me how any individual of non-Franco stock could even consider joining their ranks.
