I haven't spoken or written much about Assange - or Snowden for that matter.
I see them as vital figures when it comes to freedom of the press and the notion of exposing what our governments do in our names. The public has a right to know.
Assange is not likely to come out of the bind he finds himself. If he does, it will probably have to come by way of a pardon. And the only way he has a chance at that is if Donald Trump is re-elected but he has taken the rambling way out and hasn't committed to it when asked about it.
Unfortunately, few people are talking about the plight of Assange.
While the press pours its pearl-clutching energies into Navalny, Assange is persona non grata.
Navalny is a bit player in the grand scheme of things. There's no evidence Putin had him murdered. From what I've learned he wasn't all that popular and there was no real threat to Putin's power. So why would he kill a journalist already in prison? Why would he, furthermore, do it especially after he announced on Tucker Carlson's show he was ready to negotiate?
It's quite comical to listen to Western media fall over themselves in their usual faux-outrage manner about Navlany but ignore the death of Gonzalo Lira. As we've seen repeatedly, the 'media' are puppets without principles. And some journalists are just as dumb as a sack of marble.
Who knows what's going on behind the scenes? We're dealing with the USA and Russia here. CIA v. SVR (and before it KGB). Spy v. Spy.
It's not out of the realm of possibility the CIA killed Navalny. Wouldn't be the first time they offed someone, right?
It amazes me to listen to mainstream 'journalists' speak of Navalny without a single thought to maybe there's a tad more going on than just politicians killing journalists.
And their silence on Assange is just repugnant.
See. This isn't about Assange. It's about YOU. If they pin all these charges on him and succeed, this sets the course and opens the door to come after the free speech of everyone.
Assange has paid dearly for releasing documents (with the alleged source being Seth Rich whose murder has yet to be solved) exposing the corruption of Western governments.
The United States, the United Kingdom and Canada have abandoned the rule of law and due process. Our governments have turned on the citizens.
We're swimming in the dystopian novels we believed could never happen here.
It can.
It did.
We are losing our right to speak in the West. The full weight of Leviathan has been unleashed to silence dissent.
Now is the time to speak out. The climate on civil liberties has never been more volatile.
This is the real crisis.
