Rouleau Rolls Over

Well, the farce that was the Rouleau Commission ended up being anti-climatic as he 'reluctantly' concluded the government met the conditions to invoke the Emergencies Act.

Cue the intro to Curb your enthusiasm.

Paul Rouleau gave his Liberal masters the cover they needed thus playing his part in furthering Canada along the path of a post-democratic nation. They have to protect their own.

To say I'm bitterly disappointed about his findings is an understatement.

It's like we heard two different hearings.

To me, not only did the government fail to make their case, but in fact, incriminated itself by essentially admitting they were circumnavigating the law to get what it wanted. And sounding like the clowns they are in the process.

Once again, a perceived emergency was met with excessive punitive measures that were completely unnecessary.

What country is this?

From the onset, people questioned Rouleau's selection given he's a Liberal party-appointed activist judge. I chose to give him the benefit of the doubt and was willing to wait for the result.

I still have to digest it to see if there's anything positive to gain from it but it's not likely as he said the decision was drastic but not dictatorial. Right.

He also didn't think democracy was hurt by it.

I beg to differ. I think this sets a terrible precedent.

The protest posed no threat to national security. Full stop. But now, the message has been set that any protest could meet the low bar of what is perceived to be a threat.

This government has despotic impulses and this sends them the wrong signal.

Once again, Justin Trudeau manages to wiggle and squirm his way out of a mess thanks to an utterly dysfunctional democratic apparatus incapable of reigning in bad-faith governance.  He's the ultimate Teflon man.

It will be interesting to see how Western democracies view this ruling. Already Canada was being depicted as a cautionary tale. This won't help and I would imagine neither will our Democracy Index ranking.

Well, Canada. You can pretend you live in a vibrant and strong democracy.

But you don't.

In the end, no one who had already determined their opinion, either way, was going to be swayed by this commission - a commission of liberals investigating each other.

I'll update this as more information comes in.
